Actus MSAR range - High performanceDatasheet auxiliary relay

DescriptionTe Actus MSAR range represents a new generation o high reliabilityelectro-mechanical relays or power utility protection and control applications.Te MSAR is built on a new relay platorm providing high perormance andreliability while reducing production and supply times.

Application o the MSAR multi-contact auxiliary relays ensures reliableoperation o up to 12 output contacts in a compact size 2 draw out case.

Te unique patented design and topology ensures minimal contact bounce.

ApplicationTe ActusMSAR relays are low burden auxiliary relays which can be used wherea scheme demands several contacts or event recording, alarm initiation, contactlogic arrangements etc.

Modern protection schemes incorporate ever increasing unctionality throughthe application o digital techniques to protection relay technology. Te require-ment or highly reliable control relay elements does however remain and otenconstitutes a signicant cost and space requirement when considering protectionpanel designs.

Te Actus MSAR system ulls this need by providing a compact, exible and

high perormance solution, while at the same time reducing the cost and leadtimes normally associated with this class o device.

Te Actus MSAR has a wide voltage operating range and is packaged in a drawout case system and can be either ush panel or rack mounted.

    Construction

    Actus MSAR relayTechnical specifcations

Te Actus relays represents a new generation o electro-mechanical relays designed specically orapplication where high perormance and reliability is paramount. While the undamental andproven electro-mechanical mechanism has been maintained, the implementation o modernmanuacturing techniques combined with an innovative architecture has provided a very exibleand competitive alternative to older generation auxiliary relays.

Te drawing on the let provides a snap shot o the major design innovations incorporated in theserelays.

Inspection o the contacts is possible by drawing out the relay module rom the case as shown on

the right. Te contacts, while protected and isolated at the rear terminal block o the module arereadily visible so that they can be checked or any sign o burning, pitting or overheating.

Manual operation o the contacts is also possible with the module removed rom the case. Tisallows checking o the contact alignment and over travel.

Sel cleaning contacts Contacts are constructed rom silver / copper alloy, specially shaped and positi-

oned to ensure very reliable, low resistance operation. Over travel o the contacts

during each operation causes a wiping action ensuring a clean make with minimal

    bounce.

    Double make / double

    break contacts

Each contact is made up o a double make or double break geometry to increase

the isolation between open contacts and increase the current break rating.

Double make contacts picked up Double break contacts picked up

Tis geometry also removes the need or internal wiring between case terminals and

the relay contacts. Tis results in our (4) less electrical terminations per contact

    providing increased system security.

Gold plated contacts Gold plated contacts are available as an option or very low current switching.Reer ordering code section.

Manual reset mechanism. For relays specied with manual reset unctions, a reset mechanism is provided on the ront paneland cover. Manual reset can be accomplished with the ront cover tted or removed.Care should be taken to avoid holding the contact and armature ag hand reset actuator in thereset position during the presence o a relay operate signal. Tis action will cause the relay to

oscillate between drop-out and pick-up and i this condition is maintained itmay result in thermaland mechanical damage to the device.

Coil operation LEDAn optional ront panel LED may be specied to indicate when a voltage is applied to the operatecoil terminals. Tis eature can be useul during commissioning particularly or latching relaysand where armature ags are not tted to indicate the operate voltage status. Reer ordering codesection.

Operation counterAn optional 6 digit operation counter is available to record the number o contact pick up events.Te displayed count cannot be reset. (not available on the MSAR25 version)

Flag indicatorsTe Actus MSAR relay oers two types o mechanical ags. Tese consist o a high visibility; solid, day glow

orange indicator which become visible on energisation o the relay coil. Te relay can be ordered with either,

both or no ags tted. Reverse acting ags are also available.

Note: Tere is no impact on the contact operate speed or relay perormance when these ags are tted.

Armature ag Te armature ag is connected to the relay armature and thereore always indicates

the position o the contacts. Te standard armature ag becomes visible when therelay is operated. I latching contacts are specied the sel reset ag will remain

visible in the latched condition until the relay is reset.

    Independent hand reset

    ag

Tis ag is independent o the sel reset ag and operates when the contacts are rst

operated and remains visible until it is manually hand reset using the reset button

located on the ront o the relay. Note that this ag can only be reset once the relay

    has been reset.

Te draw out unction is made possible through the use o inner and outer terminal blocks, eachwith silver plated contact ngers to provide high current rating and very low electrical resistance.

A high quality molded inner terminal block is utilized which incorporates the switching contactsthus eliminating the requirement or internal wiring and in turn removing a potential circuit ailuremechanism.

M4 screw terminals allow 2x crimp lug connections per point. Space efcient design allows 28

    contact points per terminal block.
