COMPLETE PROTECTION
MODERN DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Safety boots, and the workers using them as a crucial tool in their trade, are relentlessly tested with long hours, heavy weight, and extreme elements. Their boots must stand up to this adversity and succeed in one sole purpose; to keep the workers entire foot protected. Current safety options such as leather boots with steel toes offer workers inferior protection. The D:Boot System is a revolutionary step-forward in safety footwear design. The system takes advantages of rapid advancements in manufacturing technology, as well as the established plastic boot industry based around extreme sports, to create a boot unlike any before. The leather boot market has not provided a boot that provides complete protection of the metatarsal and ankle. Industry standard leather safety boots do not incorporate advancements in composite materials (carbon fiber, injection molded long glass fiber composites or plastics). The D:Boot System provides complete protection for all parts of the foot, while maintaining comfort, functionality and manufacturability. The reason we are contacting your organization is to partner with and develop a safety boot that will represent a quantum leap in the safety boot industry.
THE EXISTING PROBLEM As a practicing Vocational Expert in California, Mr. Frank Diaz has witnessed the devastating results of foot related injuries. Mr. Diaz has witnessed numerous injuries to the foot in his 31 year career, which has led Mr. Diaz to develop the D:Boot System. The D:Boot System is designed to fulfill all the American National Safety Institute (ANSI) safety footwear standards, which would be the only boot in production to do so.
THE SOLUTION The D:Boot System has been patented number 6539647B2, issued April 1, 2003, and is designed to meet or exceed all ASTM International Standards ASTM F2412-11 and ASTM F2413 for safety boot construction in the United States, Canada, and Europe. ASTM International Standards are also the safety standards used by OSHA, which sets the requirements for footwear safety in the United States.
MARKET OPPORTUNITY The U.S. industrial market for safety shoes and boots, rubber or plastic boots, and foot and leg guards is estimated at nearly $1 billion. According to safetytoday.com Approximately $70 is spent per employee on foot protection per year. With the recent advent of more rigorous legislation surrounding safety and the use of personal
protection equipment in the workplace there has been a surge in the number of manufacturers of safety footwear and safety boots. The ladies market is the big surprise for everyone in the industry. No one predicted the vast increase in demand for female safety footwear, and as a result there has been a large-scale battle for this sector.
The market for the D:Boot System are industries such as:
• Police and Fire Services • Heavy Construction • Mining
• Oil Riggers • Warehouse Workers • Military
Based upon the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are approximately 25 million workers who could benefit from the D:Boot System. Capturing just 5% of this market would yield sales of 1.25 million units. The job-safety market as a whole is on the rise due to the financial cost of injuries bore by employers, insurance companies and individuals. COMPETITION The current manufacturers of safety boots do not produce a safety boot that meet or exceeds all ANSI standards. The manufacturing of this boot can be competitively priced with the current market.
