Weekly Adult Education Classes JUDAISM FOR BEGINNERS Mondays, 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join Rabbi Amy and Rabbi Michael for a casual introduction to Judaism class where we’ll discuss lifecycle, theology, holidays and everything in between! This class is perfect for Jews, those considering conversion, and those in interfaith families. No question is too basic or too tough.

All are welcome; just c’mon by.

THE WAY INTO TORAH Tuesdays, 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm

This class, led by Rabbi Alper, is for anyone interested in learning the Torah for the first time. Taught at an introductory level, students will encounter some of the most famous laws and legends of Jewish history and culture. Each class will be based upon classical rabbinic interpretations of the Torah.

All are welcome; bring your own bagged lunch.

The popular and long-running Bible study class with Rabbi Shook continues this fall. This year, the class will focus on the book of the prophet Ezekiel. New students are always welcome. Visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum

Monday, October 16, 2017 from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

Join us as we travel to Springfield, Illinois to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, which is dedicated to Lincoln’s extraordinary life. Upon arrival in Springfield, enjoy a buffet lunch of fresh summer field greens salad with raspberry vinaigrette or ranch dressing, chicken romano topped with a light lemon butter sauce & char-grilled marinated leek garnish, seven herb roasted red skin potatoes, seasonal mixed vegetable medley, rolls & butter, layered chocolate torte cake with fudge icing, regular or decaf coffee, iced tea and water. There will be gluten-free and vegetarian options available upon request. After lunch, we will hear from a historian and get a brief overview of the museum and their collections. 31ST ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR THOSE IN NEED

This year’s dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.Co-Chairs: Sarah Falkoff and Jayme Fingerman Each year, this dinner serves 400-plus guests who come to Temple Israel from homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and through social service agency referrals. Our goal is to ensure that every person who attends receives a comforting holiday meal, wonderful service, and warm fellowship with so many others who deserve to enjoy Thanksgiving tradition.

Sukkot Family Shabbat SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Friday, October 6 at 6:30 pmServices will feature musical accompaniment by Rob Aronson.

Join us for a short family-friendly Sukkot Shabbat service in the Gall Family Sanctuary followed by a special dessert oneg in the Sukkah! Everyone will have the chance to shake the Lulav and Etrog.

STUFFED ANIMAL SLEEPOVER IN THE SUKKAH

Kids! Bring a stuffed animal to drop off after services. Every stuffed animal will enjoy a special sleepover in the Temple Israel Sukkah which includes a bedtime story, Sh’ma, and tuck in by the Rabbis. Simchat Torah and Consecration Shabbat SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Friday, October 13 at 6:30 pmServices will feature musical accompaniment by the Ruach Band.

Don’t miss this festive family-friendly service in the Gall Family Sanctuary where we will unscroll the entire Torah! Our Hebrew School students will help us read the first and last lines of the Torah as we conclude it and start anew. We will also be giving a special blessing to our new Religious School students at their Consecration during this service.

After services conclude, enjoy candy and caramel apples!
