Distraction Burglaries There has been a spate of distraction burglaries

around Doncaster, namely Bentley,

Conisborough and Balby, all claiming to

be Water Board employees. These are taking

place between 1400 and 1930 hours. Please be

aware and report any thing suspicious to the

police.

Alzheimer's Research UK

Charity Event We have raised throughout the past nine

months a total of £4,900.93 towards the

Alzheimer's Research UK. I would like to take

this opportunity to thank all who have

supported me during that time.

Kind regards,

Doreen (Marsh)

Perfect Harmony Beauty Salon along Sprotbrough Road raised £180

throughout the month of October for the

breastcare cancer campaign. Perfect Harmony

sold buns, raffle tickets for a beauty voucher,

name a teddy game or if you chose the colour

pink on your nails, Perfect Harmony donated

£1. Perfect Harmony would like to thank

everybody who donated to this incredible cause

and to Lyndsey from Parti Animals for all the

scrumptious buns.

Dear Friends and helpers, The Celebrity Handbag Auction and Sale was a

great success. The chief reaction of people

entering the room was ―WOW! What a lot of

handbags!‖ We had table after table after table

of them, all overlapping, all full. It was impossi-

ble to put a figure on the number, but probably

about 1000 and we had disposed of many be-

forehand as not being up to our high stan-

dards. Originally we had about ten carloads

and at the end we only had two carloads of

leftovers, so we sold a LOT of bags.

I have not yet got a final figure but as I‘m being

pestered on all sides for an idea of the amount it

stands at about £4700. There are expenses to

go out, moneys to come in and promises to be

fulfilled so it would be nice to say £5000, but

truthfully we can‘t say that just yet. There are

some handbags which will be put up on Ebay so

at what point the final is finalised is hard to

say. Fairly soon we will do something simple

like a market stall or car boot sale to deplete

the residue which will bring in a little more

money. And of course I‘m ever open to more

donations.

During my visit to Buckingham Palace I ex-

tracted a promise from Princess Alexandra to

donate one of her handbags which obviously has

not yet arrived. She said ―It won‘t be anything

grand; probably something Italian‖. Hmmm,

from her I‘m sure it will really be quite grand

enough!

Not only was it a successful evening but also

very enjoyable too. The auctioneer was utterly

wicked in his ability to screw every last pound

out of each bidder by jollying, coaxing, cajoling,

wheedling, begging and sweet-talking them into

paying more. And not a thumb screw in

sight. Excellent.

So a very big thank you to all who helped in a

myriad different ways – handbag donations,

collecting bags, sorting, transporting, selling,

ticket sales, other ways I haven’t mentioned or just simply coming to buy. Thank you. Eileen

MEET Cynthie Ducker of Warmsworth and Wendy and Milly Flores-Martinez of Sprotbrough,

daughter, grand-daughter and great-grand-daughter of Gladys Batty who is memorialised on the

plaque, along with Mabel Watson, at our prize-winning Well renovation at Lower Sprotbrough.

I reported last month that we had won the Community Section of Doncaster in Bloom so it was

both a surprise and a pleasure to learn that descendents of these two women were still living in the

area.

When Milly visited the site with her class from school, she was greeted with disbelief when she said

that Gladys Batty was her great grandma, so next day she had to produce the actual photograph

depicted on the plaque. From there, a chain of events brought the family to my notice which

culminated in this photo being taken.

We managed to piece together that Gladys‘s parents, Walter and Mary Hannah and four children,

lived at the Station House, Levitt Hagg Road, in 1901 and that Gladys had three girls, Shirley,

Cynthie and Joyce. Joyce was Wendy‘s mother, but Cynthie, her aunt, is the only one still living. I

think Wendy‘s interest has now been aroused and family history will be on her agenda from now on.

I have also discovered that Mabel was sister to Wilfred Watson, whose son, Geoff, and grandson,

Richard, still live in Sprotbrough, but unfortunately they were unable to be with us for the photo-

shoot due to other commitments.

Dear Reader,

It's December and, once again, our

lives become consumed with festive

activities—present buying and

wrapping, food shopping, parties

and, where I can become helpful,

social events!!!

Beauty salons really buzz in

December. Not only are they busy,

they are also full of chatter about

Christmas preparations – both the ones that are falling into

place and those that require an urgent input if they are going to come to fruition. For the therapist, it is wonderful

fun helping to get everybody ready for fun and frolics!

Everyone chooses different beauty treatments to make them feel ready for Christmas, but the most popular ones are

the 'finishing touches' treatments:

Bio Sculpture Gel - available in a whole range of beautiful colours, glitters and French finish, giving strong, flexible,

natural looking nails, it will not chip, smudge or wear away.

Gelish - available in an array of colours and applied like polish, but then cured in an LED lamp, just like sculpture

gels, gelish can stay on the nails for up to three weeks without chipping or peeling and soak off in fifteen minutes.

Shellac - the longest lasting manicure, Shellac exploits the breakthrough UV3 technology, that combines the ease of

polish with the permanence of gels – a true innovation in chip-free, extended-wear colour.

Minx – the latest must-have fashion accessory for celebs – an exciting way for women to extend fashion and

glamour to their fingers and toes, using foils in many different designs and colours.

Nail Extensions - for a beautiful, natural look, giving strength and length - employing the best technology available.

Lash Extensions - including 3D lashes, which are individually applied; weekend lashes, which are ideal for those

special occasions; and, special to Perfect Harmony, PH Lashes - luscious, full and flattering and lasting 2-3 weeks –

just right for the Christmas and New Year period.

St.Tropez Tan - a warm, golden natural tan is the perfect treatment at this time of year. Not only will it make you

appear more healthy, it will also complement that little black party dress!

A Facial - this treatment is also wonderful to have at this time of year, as it can make your skin look healthy and

dewy. Your make up also looks so much better after a facial treatment, always to be desired for Christmas parties

and events.

So remember to schedule all your appointments to avoid

disappointment during this busy season.

Nails, Nails, Lashes and St Tropez!

I would like to take this opportunity to

wish all in Sprotbrough

a very Merry Christmas and a

Happy New Year.

How to avoid a frosty welcome

A very Merry Christmas to all our readers, Weather conditions will be turning frosty, leaving motorists searching for their ice scrapers. Following is

for drivers seeking to avoid a frosty welcome:

Prepare the vehicle for winter early. Have the anti freeze checked, replace damaged wiper blades, stock

up on de-icer, add a frost inhibitor to the screen wash and buy a window scraper and two cloths: one to

clear condensation and dirt from the inside windows and one to clean lights and exterior windows. Check

that the windscreen wipers are off when leaving the vehicle the night before to avoid damaging the wiper

motor and blades when the engine is started the next day. Use external temperature gauges, if the vehicle

has them. An indicated temperature of 3°C means that extremely slippery conditions are possible.

Remember that ice on the windscreen could mean ice on the carriageway at some points, especially side

roads. Observe other road users reactions to conditions ahead as a pre-warning of what is to come

Stopping distances will increase in frosty or wet weather. Stay focused, look further ahead than usual and

allow for the extra time needed to stop by increasing the gap ahead. Where the road surface is likely to

be slippery, stay in the highest gear possible to minimise the risk of wheel spin. Consider setting off in

second gear, releasing the clutch and accelerating very gently.

If the vehicles front end begins to lose grip, a front wheel skid will begin. Reduce acceleration, consider

disengaging the clutch and steer smoothly. If the vehicle goes into a rear wheel skid, lift off the accelerator,

consider de-clutching and steer into the skid. Always ensure windows, lights and mirrors are clear of dirt

and ice before setting off.
