Dear Parishioners, This weekend churches around the Unites States are having their annual collection to assist retired

religious. The people of our parish have always been supportive of those who have given their lives to Christ. I want to thank you for your continued generosity. I also want to thank you for your support of the Giving Tree and the Christmas Food Drive. Once again, over one thousand needy families and individuals will have a more joyous and peaceful Christmas because of you. Our Lord himself reminds us, “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers you do unto me.” In loving those the Lord loves, you love Him. There are two great Marian Feasts during Advent. On December 8th we celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and on December 12th we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is the patroness of the America’s. It always has seemed appropriate that the Blessed Mother has such a prominent role in this time of Advent. She offers us an example of trust, of patience, and of calm in the midst of tumult. The scriptures create an image of Mary whose life was turned upside down in the months before the birth of her son. She traveled to Judea. In the late stage of her pregnancy, she traveled to Bethlehem. Later she would be forced to flee to Egypt to save her child and live as a refugee in a foreign land. Yet the center of her being was never shaken and never sinned. In the busyness of this season, we would do well to follow her example and stay centered upon He who truly matters. I recently came across an article that spoke of the challenges of recognizing the need for Jesus in our life if we do not even recognize that we are sinners. It is a point well taken. How we can experience this world and not see our sinfulness is amazing. Christ came to call sinners. One of the best ways that we can prepare for Christ is through the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation. This great gift of God’s healing was given to us by Christ so that we can experience his mercy. As Christmas approaches we will be offering the sacrament on Saturday, December 16th and 23rdd after the 8:30 Mass (as we do every week) as well as on the evening of December 19th at 7:00 PM. This time we were able to secure two confessors who speak Polish that evening, along with Father Andrew and Bishop Gorman. Christ came into this world in humble circumstances. We can approach him in humility and joy. Finally, after the 6:00 PM Mass next week we will light the Parish Christmas Tree in the Gathering space. The Madrigal singers of Stagg High School will join us and at the Mass Father Andrew will commission those who are going on the Christmas break Mission Trip. In Christ,

Father Mike

Dear Our Lady of the Woods Parishioners and Friends, Amy Boyle, the daughter of a recently deceased parishioner, is adopting a child and family and friends are assisting her with a special project to help defray the many costs associated with adoption. The team has created Adoption Puzzle Fundraiser.! This is how the fundraiser works: We will be taking a photo of her daughter and will turn it into a 500 piece puzzle. Each puzzle piece can be purchased for $20.00 and upon purchase, your name (optional) will be added to the back of the puzzle piece and shared on so-cial media as a “Thank you to ____ for donating” post. Once all puzzle pieces are sold, the puzzle will be put togeth-er and framed. This will then be presented to Amy to hang in her home so she can always tell her daughter that it took “All kinds of people and endless love to bring you home to me one puzzle piece at a time”. Additional details about the fundraiser:

When paying by check for the puzzle piece:

Please provide your name and if you would like recognition for the puzzle piece. Make checks payable to “Baby Girl Boyle Adoption Fundraiser” Send checks directly to Cindi Layman, 11028 S. Millard, Chicago, IL 60655

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests know

to God. Philippians 4:6 Prayer is powerful. As Christians, we do not equate prayer with magic but with an outward and inward expression of faith. Prayer is a means of opening ourselves to God’s voice and opening our hearts to the presences of Christ in one another. We use prayer to focus our minds, to nourish our spirits, to surrender to God our doubts, fears, grief, struggles, contrition and pain that they may be transformed into hope, joy, cour-age, forgiveness, comfort and peace. Prayer is personal and communal. “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18:20) By remembering one another in prayer we grow closer as a community of faith, rooted in unconditional love. If you are asked to pray for someone, take a moment and say a prayer. If you would like the parish to pray for a loved one please contact the parish office. Out of respect for the privacy of our parishioners, prayer requests to be shared at Sunday mass, must come from a family member of the one seeking prayers.
