Even a picture-perfect dream home can be a mistake if it’s in an undesirable location, and a poor-location home can be a particularly bad choice if you anticipate reselling the home within a few years.2. MAKE A LIST. Do you (and your spouse, if you’re married) really know what you need and want in your home? You’ll save yourself many hours of shopping (and potentially arguing) if you make a list ahead of time. Zero in on the features you must have, would like to have, definitely don’t want and would prefer not to have. Your goal is to find the right home for your family without falling in love with one that doesn’t suit your needs. Tip: Start compiling your wish list by thinking about what you like and dislike about your current home.3. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Not long ago, consumers had very little access to information about recent home sales prices, market trends, homes on the market, neighborhood statistics and the home-buying process. Today, all this information and more is available on the Web. Go surfing. Get educated. Become empowered.4. GET PREAPPROVED FOR A MORTGAGE. Your top-dollar home price is a function of your household income, your creditworthiness, interest rates, the type of loan you select and how much ready cash you have for the down payment and closing costs, among other fac-tors. Rather than guessing or estimating how much you can afford to spend, ask a lender or mortgage broker to give you a full assessment and a letter stating how much you’re qualified to borrow. The true amount may be much more or much less than you think.5. USE A CHECKLIST. Touring multiple homes is a confusing experience for most people. Rather than relying on memory, make notes about the homes you visit. Turn your priorities into a personalized home-shopping checklist and use it track the features of each home.6. WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND STURDY SHOES. House-hunting can be tiring, especially if you’re relocating to a distant community and want to see a dozen homes in one day. There’s no sense in torturing your feet unnecessarily.7. BE PREPARED TO MAKE AN OFFER. House-hunting can also be frustrating, especially if you know in your heart you’re not really emotionally or financially ready to buy a home. Now through Dec. 31: Inspired by Coshocton exhibit at the

Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum The Johnson-Humrickhouse

Museum’s special exhibit, Inspired by Coshocton – Recent Works by Artists Home and Away, is on dis-play at the museum now through Dec. 31. Over 20 artists who have been inspired by the beauty of Co-shocton County have participated in this special bicentennial exhibit.

There is a variety of artwork in-cluding paintings, sculptures, pho-tography, and mixed media. Vari-ous local artists include but are not limited to Dorothea Bluck, Esther Versch, Megan Lightell, Jennifer

Bush, Chelsea Walters and Kelsey Schott. The museum’s winter hours are 1 – 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through

Sunday.

Dec. 2, 3: Night in BethlehemEmmanuel Lutheran Church invites the Coshocton Community to their Night in Bethlehem event on Dec. 2 and 3 from 6 - 8 p.m. and Dec. 4 from 1 - 3 p.m. Visit their little biblical village, interact with the

townsfolk and shop keepers in cos-tume, see and feed the animals, and most importantly, appreciate again

the true meaning of Christmas.

Dec. 2, 3, 9, 10: “The Kitchen Witches” by the Footlight Players

at the Triple Locks TheatreIsobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle

both have a love for food, but not for each other, ever since Larry

Biddle dated one and married the other. Both being cooking show hostesses, they are unfortunately

put together on the same TV show called, “The Kitchen Witches” and the insults fly higher than the food! Dolly’s long-suffering TV produc-er son, Stephen, tries to keep them

on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and admission is $10. Call the theatre at 622-2959 for more information.

Dec. 3: Christmas in the Village in West Lafayette

The West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is once again sponsor-

ing the annual Christmas in the Village celebrations. Decorate your home for the holidays for a chance to win a $100 Wal-Mart gift card in the Christmas lighting contest.

Show off your talent for gift wrap-ping by entering the pretty package contest. The package must include a gift for a boy or girl with a cost of no more than $10. The win-

ner will receive a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Other events include the Lion’s Pancake Breakfast, Santa

Drive Saturday, Dec. 3 at Rent A Vision, located at 500 S. 2nd St, Coshocton from Noon – 2 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Dairy

Queen located at 810 S. 2nd Street in Coshocton from 3 – 5 p.m. Drop off new toys and get your picture

taken with Santa Claus and Sparky the Fire Dog! All toys will go to needy children in Coshocton Co.

Dec. 3, 10, 17: Christmas Candle lighting Ceremony at Historic

Roscoe VillageFor the first three Saturdays in

December, Historic Roscoe Vil-lage welcomes the holiday season with its annual Christmas Candle lighting ceremonies. Share in the tradition with your family of the lighting of the Christmas tree and

the singing of “Silent Night”. Throughout the day, enjoy art with

Santa, strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides, candlelit

tours, complimentary hot-mulled cider and cookies. Admission and

parking are free.

Dec. 4: Coshocton Community Choir Christmas Festival Concert

Let the magic of Christmas fill your heart as you listen to the Co-

shocton Community Choir perform their annual Christmas concert.

The choir, now in its 41st season, is made up of 200 musicians from central Ohio and is conducted by Mr. Charles R. Snyder. Musical

selections span the centuries with classics from by-gone eras, as well

as some new selections, that are performed. The concert features the 100-voice adult choir, the 70-voice children’s choir, and the 60-voice teen choir, all performing a mix of sacred and secular music. Tickets can be purchased from any choir

member or by calling 622-3960 or at the door. Tickets for adults are

$10 and $5 for students.

Dec. 9: Holiday Cookies at the Pomerene Center for the Arts

The holidays are coming soon, and the Pomerene Center for the Arts is searching for the best holiday

cookie in Coshocton County. The 3rd annual cookie contest will be judged by Cheez-Kake Bakery

owner, David Smith on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Pomerene Center for the Arts. Call 622-0326 or email [email protected] to reg-ister, reserve a table for the event, or order a box of delicious home-made cookies. All proceeds go to the Pomerene Center for the Arts.

54 Bring in the holiday season with

Roscoe Village Candlelighting

Bring in the holiday season with the annual Roscoe Village Candle-lighting services on Dec. 3, 10, and 17. Each night’s ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. Stroll through Roscoe Village’s many shops before and after the candlelighting, which will be open until 8 p.m. Take a horse-drawn surrey ride with woodward haflinger horses leading the way. Be sure to sample some cookies and hot spiced apple cider which will be served by the Boy Scouts. Each candlelighting will incor-porate a bicentennial and Civil War theme as we close Coshoc-ton’s 200th birthday and the anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. Each service opens

with local musical talents, the last two services featuring choirs from area high schools. A local minister will lead prayer, which is followed by a story told by the storyteller for the evening. As the story evolves, the Christmas tree behind the stage will come alive with thousands of Christmas lights. The honorary candlelighter will then begin the annual candlelighting tradition by lighting the candle on the stage. The flame from that candle is passed from person to person as everyone lights their own candle from their neighbor’s flame and sings, ‘Silent Night’ until the whole area is alight with tinkling candles.
