Hello and welcome to this month’s Global Video Insights Report.
According to eMarketer’s “US Digital Media Usage: A Snapshot of 2013,” major growth is expected in video viewing on mobile devices. They expect a nearly 20% increase in mobile video viewers in the US alone in the next year. In addition, engagement metrics for mobile video users are remarkable. AdColony and Nielsen recently reported that mobile video advertising elicits brand recall 4.8 times higher than online and 5.8 times higher than TV.
These reports of growth and engagement are spot on with what we are seeing at Vuclip as well. And we’re able to drill down and find out more about these consumers – what they are searching for and viewing, their device purchase intentions and who they admire when it comes to political leaders and celebrities. We’ve included a sampling of all of this in this month’s report.

The World Has Gone Crazy for Tablets: Holiday Purchase Intentions
In November, Vuclip surveyed tens of thousands of mobile video users about tablets. We gauged purchase intentions, favorite brands, and who will be getting a gadget this holiday season. You’ll see that the U.S., U.K. and Canada are all on the same page. Tablets are hot this holiday season and “self-gifting” is equally popular!
More than 20,000 unique users in the U.S. responded; nearly 9,000 in the U.K. and approximately 17,000 in Canada. Users were provided with seven multiple-choice questions and had the option to participate or opt out. No incentives were provided for responding.

As the year comes to a close, we uncovered India’s favorite leadership icons in 2012. More than 47,000 votes poured in for India’s most admired business leaders, politicians and athletes.
Septuagenarian Ratan Tata emerged as India’s business icon.
In the world of sports, 22-year-old Badminton ace Saina Nehwal continued her winning streak and topped cricket’s 39-year old master blaster Sachin Tendulkar as the leadership icon in sports category.
Taking a big leap this year into mainstream politics, Rahul Gandhi was the obvious choice among our respondents. However, a surprise came in the women leaders category when Apollo Hospitals’ MD Preetha Reddy got more votes than Nita Ambani, Ekta Kapoor and Ritu Kumar!

India’s Bollywood Icons 2012
When looking at this year’s favorite icons in India, how could we leave Bollywood behind?
Khans may have their clout, but no one beats the Shahenshah! At 70, Amitabh Bachchan proved that he still rules Bollywood, especially when it comes to the hearts of India’s mobile users.
Touted as the Meryl Streep of India, Bollywood’s first female superstar, Sridevi too left Kareena, Vidya and Katrina behind to make a solid comeback as India’s most admired actress this year.
While we too would have placed a blindfolded bet on AR Rahman as the favorite music composer, male playback singer Sonu Niigaam and filmmaker Aditya Chopra emerged as India’s heartthrobs in a tight finish.

Angelina Jolie was voted as the most admired Hollywood actress while Johhny Depp was the hottest Hollywood actor of 2012.
The most-admired female singer title went to Lady Gaga, owing to the huge success of her albums, the launch of her very own social network, and her philanthropic spirit this year.
American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, who recently performed at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, emerged as the most admired male singer of 2012.

The perfectionist Aamir Khan is back in action with his latest release Talaash, securing fourth position in the top India searches this month. The psychological suspense thriller made a fantastic showing at the box office in the first week of its release. Seems like 2012 has been a great year for the film industry with big hits such as SRK’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Aamir’s Talaash and Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger.
Spotlight on India If Khans were in the limelight this year, our Khiladi Akshay Kumar was not far behind. His recent action-comedy movie, Khiladi 786 made an entry at the box office. While we will have to wait and watch to see if this film gives another blockbuster to the film industry or plunges into the backseat, it has already pushed Akshay Kumar into the top India searches on mobile this month.

this month for the first looks of Dabangg2. Life of Pi, Talaash and
Son of Sardaar too were usual suspects in the top ten videos, but
interestingly, it was Aishwarya’s 39th birthday that made it to the second
spot on this month’s top videos.
For once, Bollywood took a backseat as the nation had more serious issues to unite on. Ajmal Kasab, the only surviving attacker of 26/11 was hanged and buried at Yerwada Jail in Pune. Mobile users stayed glued to their phones to catch the latest updates.

Our most-viewed for the month of November is a video called (roughly translated): “Wisdom lies behind the story of the bridge.” This story is about two brothers who own a piece of land together and eventually have a falling out. One of them hires a builder to erect a wall on his side so he doesn’t have to see his brother. Not heeding his directives, the builder builds a bridge instead that connects both parts of the land together, which ultimately brings the two brothers together again.
Spotlight on UAE The Pilot Prank video, which was created by a viewer using the Vuclip Producer App on iPhone, made our top video views for this month. The video shows a small aircraft pilot pretending to be unconscious. This prank fools the cameraman with hilarious results.
