Christmas is not just a time for reading our glorious Christmas technicolor MASS Media Festive Edition whilst rustling through infinite boxes of Quality Street, indulging in mince pies, boiling sprouts to a mushy cinder and arguing over the interpretation of the latest board game rules. It is also a time for reflection.

To my mind the original and possibly best reflective story telling comes from ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens, which will no doubt make its way onto into our collective living rooms in one format or another this Christmas. Dickens’ famed novel was written at a time when Victorian England was experiencing a period of change in terms of its Christmas traditions. There was a sudden explosion in new celebratory ideas, such as Christmas Cards and decorative Evergreens, which had recently been introduced into the common consciousness through a gift from Germany to the Royal Family. New and vibrant carols were also being sung alongside the more dour hymns of old, and not just in the Churches but also and more importantly in the streets, through door-knocking Carol Singers. It is no coincidence, then, that ‘A Christmas Carol’ places much emphasis upon considerations of how past and present actions and behaviours might affect future outcomes, for good or bad. The book does this by introducing its famous three ghosts of; Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future. In short, through learning from the past, we can introduce new and positive changes today, which will create a better desired future for tomorrow.

In an admittedly loose analogous sense, we at MASS can attribute 2016 to a similarly reflective period of change. Much internal emphasis has been put into understanding how and why things have been done in the past, through the interrogation of critical success factors and previous client feedback. Likewise, we have sought to identify what kind of organisation we want to be in the future and have focused our resultant forthcoming strategy for 2017 upon bolstering resources and generating real growth within our market sector. The present then has been directed very much towards establishing new ways of working, both internally and with our clients. In particular, the success of our EDGE Training Conference series and software Productisation projects have allowed us to realise a new positive direction away from our learned past, whilst putting in place the resources and tools necessary to successfully transition into the future and realise our strategic goals. In the spirit of Dickens, we hope to bring new ideas and fresh faces to MASS in 2017, as we look keenly towards the future.

We hope you enjoy this MASS Media edition and the forthcoming festive period.

ARCHIBUS Connect & MASS Update

4

ARCHIBUS Connect is the main regional/international event for the ARCHIBUS Business Partner community.

ARCHIBUS Connect this time was in Dublin, Ireland. The event provides an excellent environment for ARCHIBUS Business Partners to update their knowledge, develop strategies, tactics and skills.

The format of the event was established to ensure business and technical aspects of implementing the software are given due attention and the tracks were designed to introduce the product, marketing and sales strategies and plans for the region. This time round there were 3 of them…

The "Business Track" - Targeted at Business Owners, Senior Managers, Sales and Account Managers and were designed to help with things such as aligning with the key components and timeline of the ARCHIBUS Go-To-Market plans for the region.

This is just one example of many topics on this track.

The "Application Track" - Targeted at Business Analysts, Sales Engineers, and Implementation Specialists. The application track explains how the applications in V.23 have changed and give participants a chance to learn the applications and their new features.

The "Technical Track" - Targeted at technical team leads and system integrators. The track is designed to ensure technical teams are familiar with how to extend the capabilities of the latest release.

Mark, Martin and Paul attended the event on behalf of MASS this year. Mark and Martin took part in the Technical Track and Paul on the Business Track. Oh, and Luke and Steve went to drink some Irish beer, I mean, went to network!

mass update - Cheryl Fullagar completing the MIZUNO AMSTERDAM HALF MARATHON

The Mizuno half marathon consists of one loop, most of which

passes through the attractive centre of Amsterdam. The course

starts at the Stadionweg and goes through Churchilllaan,

Rijnstraat and the Utrechtse Bridge over the Amstel river. You

then run through Watergraafsmeer and Zeeburg. The rest of the

course is same as that of the full marathon.

The course leads the participants through Amsterdam’s city

centre and passes many highlights, which would also be worth a

separate sightseeing tour. It passed by the world-famous

Rijksmuseum on Museumplein. They also run through the largest

public park in Amsterdam, Vondelpark, which has an entrance at

the side of the Leidseplein. Runners get to see the Olympic

Stadium which is where the marathon finishes right in front of

the grandstand.

Cheryl, MASS’ Business Administrator, completed the half

marathon, 21.89KM, in an amazing time of 02:20hours.

EDGE: Connect 2016

As a part of our continual improvement programme we have

followed all the feedback from previous events that have

happened in 2016, and even 2015, and made big changes to

the way we do things based on your opinions and company

team efforts. As explained in our latest edition of MASS

Media, we were pleased to announce some of the big changes

to how we approach our marketing going forward. After lots of

busy marketing meetings we developed a new range of EDGE

events. The first of our newly designed conferences happened

on the 2nd and 3rd of November, EDGE: Connect was hosted

at our own Conference Centre in Wokingham.

This newly formatted two day training conference combined

client networking opportunities alongside a second day of

training. It was directed at stakeholders and system owners,

and we had a really good turnout from the ARCHIBUS

community. This was the first time everyone had been given

the opportunity to meet new contacts and users from both

North and South of the UK in a networking and training

capacity.

DAY 1 –

Registration of EDGE: Connect day one kick-started at 09:00.

Everything was set up and ready to go, with delegate packs full

of MASS merchandise, name badges and even an array of

pastries, biscuits and drinks/juices. The delegates had the

opportunity to start networking with one another before the

day had even started. Everyone arrived on time so we could

start promptly at 09:30, as planned.

All delegates were welcomed, given some housekeeping

information and then in true ‘MASS style’ every person in the

room had the chance to introduce themselves. We all took it

in turns to say our names, where we were from and what it is

exactly that we do. Everyone's turn to speak was picked at

random. It was a great way to break the ice and to get the day

started. The day’s agenda was then run through briefly, and

everyone was provided with a copy in their delegate packs to

refer to throughout the day, with each section individually

introduced as it happened.

EDGE: Connect 2016

First up was Luke Bolt. I’m sure by now you all know who he

is! Luke welcomed everyone again to the first EDGE: Connect.

He then followed on to describing the EDGE Training Series,

showing the differences between and the potential of each

event. EDGE: Advance - advance your understanding of the

latest version, EDGE: Build - Build your knowledge of lifecycle

management and EDGE: Connect - Connect with your peers

and your system. He set out the different dates and prices of

each event, before going on to explain the reasoning (apart

from client feedback!) behind the changes we’ve made. This

was described in a pyramid format which I am sure will be

continuing in events to follow! The pyramid started at the

bottom with Speed, Accuracy and Confidence and had many

steps working up towards the tip, this being Realising

ARCHIBUS as a: ‘Vehicle for organisational change’.

The first User Presentation of the day was delivered by Helen

Hill and Brett Plant from the University of Worcester. Helen

Hill is the Corporate Information Systems Manager and Brett

Plant is Facilities Office Manager. They presented a case study

of the University of Worcester's journey of implementing and

developing ARCHIBUS which includes helpdesk, data

integration and mobile working. They wanted to show how

they have done this alongside support from MASS and to give

an honest appraisal.

University of Worcester has 4 campuses, University Court, St

Johns Campus, Severn Trent Campus and City Campus. In total

it has an area of 85,000m2 and 1,000+ staff members. They

spoke about where their journey with MASS began, their aims,

visions and the challenges they faced. It all started with their

‘data challenge’ which is separated into 2 parts: Obtaining

what they didn't have and utilising what they did have. Data

that they didn't have being things like completed space data

and accurate department records. Data they did have was

student and staff data and who was in each office. They

described how they began to understand the complexity and

that they had to let ARCHIBUS hold the master data.

Their Helpdesk went live in 2014 and since then they

explained that they’ve had better quality of requests

and have been able to evaluate and monitor

the performance of service. The University implemented their

mobile working and lacked customisation, so had a few

problems along the way, but in 2016 things got easier. The

estates team are less reliant on the office, and it means their

helpdesk is now running more efficiently. The presentation

included a rather funny video showing the simplicity of using

mobile, and a conclusion explaining what’s up next for

University of Worcester. It was great to see how far they have

come and how they overcame all the issues they faced along

the way.

Following on from Brett and Helen we had a 15 minute break.

We really wanted to make networking at this event as easy as

possible as there was such a great group of people from

different industries such as Universities, Museums and the

public sector working for the government. On the breakout

tables at the back of the room were slips of paper with titles

on such as name, contact details and company so delegates

could fill them out and give them to one another to aid

staying in contact: the break was rounded up quickly so we

could continue with the day’s activities… 6

EDGE: Connect 2016

We were lucky enough to have Ian Gelling with us again

straight after the break. He’s an ARCHIBUS Business

Development and Global Services consultant. This time round

he presented an ARCHIBUS update. This consisted of 3 areas:

Mission - Why, Direction - How and Roadmap - What.

ARCHIBUS believe that they can make the world better by

aiding in the creation of an economically, environmentally

sustainable future. This will be through stewardship of the

resources that are dedicated to the built environment. They

want to help organisations realise the full strategic value of

their real estate, infrastructure and facility assets and help the

stewards of those assets to realise their career potential. He

went on to explain their strategy revolving around Technology

innovation and business innovation using the ARCHIBUS

platform and Federated Ecosystem. The direction section

focused upon the product roadmap - “Realise Strategic Value”,

physical assets, organisation and employees. Listing things

such as Real Estate Portfolio, Space Management in V.23,

Asset Management and Energy Management. The last

section, the roadmap is confidential and subject to the

disclaimer, unfortunately this means neither Ian nor ourselves

are allowed to show it outside of the actual presentation

sessions. So basically, you should have been there!

Joe Maleczek led the group activity, as always - this time

round it was called the ‘Egg-sercise’. It was very much a

game of two halves. In the first half everyone connected

up with three other team members and once you had

discovered your team you took the next available table

A,B,C etc, the faster the better, because certain tables had

advantage cards on them. To find your teams it was

‘connect 4…’ All delegates had to find a card with their

name on and take a pencil. Everyone individually had to

network through all the delegates until they found their

three team mates. They had to ask questions such as

“do you work for a university”, “do you work in the

North, or South, less than a mile from a river etc…” This

involved a bit of maths as well because your code e.g. 20, on

your card, plus your teams mates codes, had to add up to

100...It took a fair amount of time for everyone to work out

their teams, as you can probably imagine!

Once the teams were all together and at their own station you

could arrange trade with other teams, like resources or your

‘30cm drop card’. The main aim of the game was to use the

resources at your station, to wrap a raw egg so that when it

was dropped from the ‘Eggs-Terminator’ (a raised platform), it

didn't smash! The initial drop height was 2.4 metres, but

teams with the ‘30cm drop card’ could use this at any time

throughout the process, kind of like a joker card. Each teams

eggs would be dropped from their initial heights and the

surviving eggs would continue to cycle through testing until

there is was winner, with the height increasing by 30cm each

time. The winning team was Shona McGarrity, Steve Dawson,

Andy Stewart and Paul Munro. Congratulations were in order,

along with a prize! The game routed back to the pyramid Luke

introduced at the beginning of the day, as it focused on

Speed, Accuracy and Confidence. The opportunity to change

your ‘egg parcel’ shall we call it, after each drop focused on

the second step of the pyramid: ‘Improve Decision Making’.

EDGE: Connect 2016

After our ’eggcellent’ activity, we enjoyed a 40 minute lunch.

Everyone was already chatting together by this point of the

day and the networking just got better and better.

We then had our second User Presentation of the day

provided by University of the West of England—UWE Bristol.

Currently there is 26,200m2 under construction/handing over.

It is a well-established university, with over 27,000 students,

250,000 alumni and 3,000 staff. Again there were 2

presenters. First up was Mike Ford, BIM Coordinator/Acting

BIM Manager with DESIGN | BUILD | MAINTAIN Why BIM?

Mike started by setting out their BIM objectives, background

and information capture. So Why BIM? He went on to explain

that BIM for the university, has reduced costs of construction

and increased the speed, produces lower carbon waste,

improved health and safety, and saves them 20% on

construction. The presentation described how they controlled

the process with their objectives, their execution plan and

asset integration. He showed us some 3D modelled buildings

alongside the level of detail and information with a screen

capture. The future of Mikes work has ideas like touch screens

and voice control and Smart Electrical Grid.

Up next was Richard Kimber the CAFM Manager. He told us

their story of how BIM is slotted into CAFM. This covered all

aspects like UWE Bristol’s use of CAFM, Core Data, Defining an

Asset, Asset granularity, and data outputs and Defects period.

Their current system is used for Reactive Maintenance and

planned maintenance, asset control an mobile, leading to

Statistics forecasting and budgeting. Richard took us through

their core data, data specifications, and expressed that it is

important to be clear on your deliverables. He explained that

it’s never too early to think about FM and

building occupation and that FM data should be

a part of the BIM process at conception, design

and throughout construction. The presentation

explained what BIM assets actually are, and

how at UWE they try to record these

items granularly. They both then offered

the opportunity for the other delegates

to ask questions, and their presentation

encouraged many discussion points.

Then it was back to back User Presentations at EDGE: Connect

2016. Next up was Fritz Panaligan the Estates Information and

Innovation Manager at The Natural History Museum (NHM).

The museum has around 168,000 square metres, 20% is front

of house and the remaining is back of house. Two main sites

are in South Kensington and Tring and they have 5 million

visitors a year and 80 million specimens. His presentation was

split into 6 different sections: Change, Awareness -

establishing a sense of urgency, Desire - creating a guiding

coalition, Knowledge - communicating the change and vision,

Ability - empowering broad-based actions and Reinforcement.

He showed us some of the estates information such as

drawing and space information and asset information.

Their total number of assets equal 16,279. He showed us some

pictures of where they keep their hardcopy records and

archives, and screen shots of them on a database too. As a

part of the ‘Desire’ part he explained their main buy-in’s which

included Head of Estates and Central Project Office. We all

saw the map of NHM Public Areas before seeing one of their

Point Cloud Scans. This was a digital representation of the

surface shape of an object appearing as millions of points. It

then followed on to panoramic images published with point

cloud information, then a 3D Model showing software, level of

detail and

tolerances.

They work with ARCHIBUS and Autodesk REVIT to complete

the job to create their 3D Models. Fritz’s presentation was

very visual with plenty of graphics making it very easy for all of

us to visualise what they do each step of the way.

Callum Doyle had a quick yet informational 20 minutes to take

everyone through MASS’ new products. If they haven't

already, these will be appearing in the MASS Media. (To see

Transport Booking see page 7)

We weren't going to let the first day of EDGE: Connect finish

without a bang, so we arranged for some bar staff to come in

from a local cocktail bar in Wokingham, The Redan. This gave

the delegates the opportunity to make and drink their own

cocktails. The bar men, Lee and Chris taught the group using

volunteers how to make famous cocktails such as a Woo Woo,

Black Russian, Moscow Mule, Caipiroska and Sex on the Beach.

Everyone in the room had their turn to make them and even if

they were driving back to their hotels they took them away in

big glasses to enjoy that evening! We all took part in a mini

competition and enjoyed one too many cocktails, for some of

us at least…

DAY 2 –

All up bright and breezy ready to

go at a great time (after a night of

cocktails!) of 08:45. There was a

very brief overview of the days’

agenda and the re-introduction of

Sean Benson, ARCHIBUS Trainer,

Mark Little and Martin Matt. The second day of EDGE: Connect

revolved around training and ‘Connecting’ so it was an

important day for our Trainers. However, before the day

started Stephen Stedman, with the help from Paul Munro,

from MASS gave an overview of the V.23 Features and a quick

introduction to our next 2 day event, EDGE: Advance. As

mentioned above, this second day focused on connecting, so

before each break and before the training began there was a

dedicated amount of time for our ‘connect’ sessions.

The general structure of the day was split into two groups in

two separate rooms - Group 1: How and Group 2: Why. The

first session ‘Asset Management Strategy’ started at 09:45 and

with Sean on the ‘How’ group, titled Develop an Asset

Inventory in ARCHIBUS, focusing on Asset Data Collection,

Asset Registration Console, Mobile and Asset Lifecycle

Console. The session went through an introduction, system,

components, benefits and the key questions to answer when it

comes to Asset Management Strategy.

On the ‘Why’ track with Martin and Mark, they covered SFG20

integration, asset classifications, and BIM workflow

management. The delegates were tasked with understanding

what an asset is by covering

areas such as Space and

Maintenance and joining the

dots between divisions,

departments, EQ standard and

PPMs.

EDGE: Connect 2016

“Managing assets requires both a tactical and strategic

perspective, often requiring you to ‘Do more with less’”

With each connect session the two groups came together in

one room before taking their own paths again. The second

connect session of the day went into the Case Study of Wuhan

Metro and stayed focused around Asset Management

Strategy. Wuhan Metro has line 1, line 2 and line 4 in

operation as of May 2014, covering 65 stations with 79.85 km

in distance. We went through their challenges, solutions and

results before going into another case study around the Frejus

Tunnel. After this, was lunch and networking…

The second half of the day was “Business Intelligence” again

with a ‘How’ and ‘Why’ track, and a break in-between with a

Connect session after. Except this time round group 1 were

focusing on Report Building and Dashboards. Sean trained the

delegates in the powerful View, Repot and Dashboard

definition wizards, showing the users how to create multiple

reports from scratch. A V23.1 HQ database was used, and

Sean guided the delegates through multiple reporting formats

including paginated reporting, graphical and numerical

reporting.

Once all of the reports were published, Sean showed the

delegates how to pull these together into a single

management dashboard. This was a key concept, as many of

the user base do not currently utilise this functionality. As a

result of this, and to lead on the EDGE series, the next EDGE

Webinar in January will focus on the Performance Metrics,

KPI’s and Alerts, and Home Page configuration.

In the ‘Why’ group with

Mark and Martin they

looked into

Commissioning of assets

and ROI (Return on

Investment) of

organisation assets.

These topics were

shown through using

things such as Web Central Modules, Mobile Applications, BIM

and CAD and other inputs like Manual Data Collection. The

final connect session to round the training up, recapped on

increasing business intelligence in the Wuhan Case Study. He

also used examples of the types of tools New York

Presbyterian Hospital used for change as well as US Federal

Aviation.

Bringing everyone back into one room, the day was rounded

up with thank yous and goodbyes, feedback forms were

handed out and everyone left the event after an informative

but fun 2 days of networking and training. The feedback we

collated from this year was some of the best we have ever had

- with comments such as ‘This has been by far the best MASS

event I have ever attended’.

With 60% saying the overall organisation of the day was

excellent and 53% saying the quality of trainers was excellent

also, it is clear to see that our first EDGE: Connect was a

success! But there’s always room for improvement and the

feedback we are given is very important to us. We had a lot of

good ideas on topics to cover at future EDGE Training events,

and a long list of those keen to present at future meetings.

There will be some changes made to how we approach the

next EDGE event regarding this feedback, but we will be

following a similar layout as it worked extremely well.

2 days of networking, a full day of training and the

opportunity to make good contacts, EDGE: Connect was

over…until next time.

EDGE: Connects’ missing component

Unfortunately we were missing one presenter this time round at EDGE: Connect!

They were sorely missed. In hindsight, regardless of our success with this event, the presentation would’ve been really great and it’s such a shame they couldn't make it.

The sadly missed presenter was Mal Ashall. Mal is a Senior Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment, Liverpool John Moore’s University and a BIFM Assessor. His key areas are: Property and Facilities Management; Sustainability; BIM in FM; Property Financial Management and Service Charge; and Maintenance Management. Mal has had a varied professional career which began after studying Business Studies at the then Bristol Polytechnic with Barclays Bank as a Graduate Trainee. Moving on into sales with such companies as Nestle, Pitney Bowes and GKN, he then founded a water-cooler business in the early 1990's. This business went from strength to strength and was sold to the Hong Kong multinational Hutchinson Whampoa at the turn of the last century. Within this field Mal has an MSc in Management and he is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. After completing his post sale contract, he took the opportunity to return to university and take an MSc in Building Surveying at LJMU and prior to joining the University had been working as a Chartered Management Surveyor for a Commercial Property Fund Manager, specialising in the Office and Industrial sectors.

The presentation Mal would have delivered was very different from our other user presentations, because LJMU are planning on using the software as an educational tool as opposed to managing buildings. Mal kindly provided us with a quick snippet into what he would have shared with all attendees of EDGE: Connect, and obviously the readers of MASS Media too…

“Within the Department of the Built Environment at LJMU we

have a number of degrees where students go on to work in

the FM industry. At the moment we have lots of software

that helps students understand the design process within the

construction industry but up until the relationship with MASS

and the installation of ARCHIBUS, software for the occupa-

tion phase of a building was missing.

The aim of using the software is to provide as much

information from the University’s estates team to enable

assessments and therefore to help the students to

understand the role CAFM can play in making strategic real

estate decisions. These can be as varied as which properties

EDGE: Advance is a follow-on from the EDGE: Connect Webinar happening in January. It will

showcase similar themes, except it will be delivered in a more advanced fashion, leading onto

EDGE: Build in March 2017.

The 2 days will be broken into 3 key areas…Old, New and Future.

The ‘Old’ will focus around legacy system owners that are looking to upgrade. Providing the positive

reasons as to why they should. The ‘New’ will be looking at those that are already on the latest

version and training them on how to make the most of the features they have on it. And the ‘Future’

Managing Assets in V 23.1 - From the Blog!

Many enterprises have more than a million assets. So how do I find my asset when it is one in a million? Managing a list of this size effectively requires organising the asset records by grouping them hierarchically. There are two fundamental organising principles relating to managing facilities assets: mechanical functionality and how the asset is used to support a business process. The mechanical functionality supports how the solution designer, manufacture, installer, and maintenance teams view the asset. How assets are used to support the business process supports the project team and ERP perspectives. Each stakeholder group has a unique perspective of how to organise the asset information. The Equipment Systems feature provides an easy and effective way to map asset components to assemblies and systems, define the dependencies, and assign the various support teams. By linking assets to assemblies, systems and teams, you enable each stakeholder group to answer the following questions: If a given asset, assembly, or a system is acted upon (moved, taken off line, replaced, or disposed of), then:

what other assets, assemblies, or systems are affected?

what spaces are affected?

which employees are affected?

what process are affected?

who should be contacted and coordinated with?

are there opportunities to minimise the risk and disruption by coordinating other planned activities?

what are the "hidden" costs and risks associated with all the related assets, assemblies, and systems? The Equipment Systems Console presents your assets in a drill-down list that shows the dependencies between assets, and enables you to manage a large number of assets effectively. The console has two tabs:

the Asset Relationship Assignment tab from which you develop the inventory

the Asset Relationship Analysis tab from which you perform analysis that helps you evaluate which systems are affected by disruptions, such as repairs, moves, and renovations. Also many tasks can be done from either tab.

The Assignment Tab From this tab you can develop the system assignments. Map assets to assemblies and systems by clicking and dragging from the list of Unassigned Assets to the System Assignments tree. The position in the tree to which you drag the asset determines its dependencies. Or, you can copy an existing system from the Inventory Tree and place it in a different position in the System Assignments tree.

The Analysis Tab You can review dependents and dependencies for specific equipment systems, and generate a list of dependents and dependencies to assess the effects of maintenance, renovations, and moves. You can add an action for equipment. If your analysis determines that actions should be created for an equipment asset, you can create the action from the Equipment Details pane.

From Both Tabs From either of the tabs you can:

Use the Filter to restrict the equipment systems shown, including restricting to see only the systems defined for your stakeholder group.

Set display options. You can set these options from either tab, but the selections are somewhat different.

Review and update information for team members who support this asset. Review and update the spaces that this asset serves. You can assign the spaces served by creating a record, or by right-clicking on the room in the drawing and selecting the menu item to assign it to the selected equipment. 15

How long have you been working in FM?

15 Years now…

How many of you are in your team?

There are 5 of us in our facilities team.

What’s the most difficult part of your role?

Balancing priorities. I have responsibilities for both new

estates and projects as well as areas of facilities management.

Today I am dealing with water roof leaks, performance re-

views and a schedule of accommodation for a new build.

What aspect is the most enjoyable?

Seeing projects successfully completed with happy students

and staff!

What do you use ARCHIBUS for day to day?

Helpdesk mostly, but I need to be working on the same space

modelling as soon as the roof leaks are solved.

What areas of ARCHIBUS would you like to use in the future?

Mobile Platform and to help start our BIM Journey.

What has been your biggest work achievement of 2016?

Surviving the year with my sanity mostly in tact! We also

carried out a really successful conversion of a lecture theatre

into a student social space. It was a small but perfectly formed

project.

What are going to be your key work challenges for 2017?

We have a number of new developments in the planning

stages and I’m keen that a BIM approach is adopted to help us

in the running of buildings.

Are you more likely to have a tidy desk, or a messy desk?

I actually have a tidy zone and a messy zone!

Star Wars: A New Hope….but as for Christmas Movies I don’t think you can beat ‘Home Alone’. I’m fairly sure I’ve watched it every year since 1990...

Favourite music album and why?

This is more difficult. I’ve always had a fairly broad taste in music, so I’m just going to have to lump for an album which I believe has always stood the test of time. That album is ‘The Joshua Tree’ by U2.

Proudest life achievement?

2009/10 season, playing centre midfield for my football team and scoring all 4 goals in a 4-0 win against one of our main rival sides. Perhaps ‘Proud’ is the wrong word, but it was certainly one of those rare happy/sad moments in life when you know you’ve just achieved something that you’ll never better again. Unfortunately tradition dictated that I buy everyone in the club house a drink afterwards, so the novelty quickly wore off.

Favourite holiday destination and why?

Nothing beats the feeling of taking to the alpine slopes, especially when you’ve just finishing up a hard day’s skiing and are settling into a busy apres-ski bar, complete with an open log fire going and the gluhwein flowing.

What are your favourite hobbies?

Beyond the usual; I have a collection of classic cars which seem to like to spend a lot of time being broken and needing to be fixed. I’m also quite keen on fine art and turn my hand to drawing and painting whenever I can find the time.

Favourite childhood TV show and why?

The Dukes of Hazzard. Following the adventures of ‘The Dukes’; a couple of good old boys from Dixieland who get into scrapes with the Law, whilst running moonshine in their 1969 Dodge Charger, nicknamed ‘The General Lee’. Throw in some Daisy Dukes and what is not to like?? I recently fitted Dixie Horns onto my own classic big-block Corvette as a tribute to this classic childhood favourite. #shameless.

If you could tell your younger self 1 piece of advice what would it be?

Always listen to advice before ignoring it.

Previous job title and role?

I worked as a New Business Development Manager for Xerox. It was a great learning experience, but ultimately I decided it would be more fun to go traveling. So I finished my job, booked an open return flight to Australia, packed a rucksack and headed off into the horizon.

Favourite memory from working at MASS?

At MASS we’ve always had great fun on our Christmas Do’s. As a small company I believe that our success lies in not just being able to work well together, but in being able to socialise together and enjoy time out as much as putting time in. Certainly, in my opinion, the Team we’ve had at MASS over the past couple of years is the best we’ve ever had and this has meant the last two Christmas Do’s have created some of my favourite, if somewhat hazy, memories.

Your most embarrassing work moment?

So many to choose from!! Part of the Xerox training programme I went through entailed voice and video recording of your sales pitch, over different scenarios, which was then played back to the group for critique. On a professional level it is useful in understanding your annoying tics and mannerisms, but on a personal level it is head-in-hands, cringingly horrendous.

‘3 Idiots’ which is a Bollywood movie. It’s about 3 geniuses who question India’s Education system. It’s very comedic. On a whole I like comedy movies the best.

I don’t have a favourite album, I am not actually a huge music listener. But if I had to pick, I could-n’t pick an album but my favourite song is Air Balloon by Lily Allen. I love the lyrics.

Proudest life achievement?

It would probably have to be from 18 years’ back. I built a house in India with my first independent earnings.

Favourite holiday destination and why?

I enjoy overlooking the sea and looking beyond into the horizon makes me feel very relaxed. I’d probably pick anywhere with the sea and a beach area. It’s important that they have lots of fun activities too for me and my chil-dren.

What are your favourite hobbies?

I enjoy watching TV in the evenings with my family. I also enjoy playing and watching Cricket.

Favourite childhood TV show and why?

SpiderMan. I used to really like fantasy series. SpiderMan was always a hero saving people lives from the evil. I suppose I liked it as a child because it sounded real at the time, obviously now I know it isn’t!

Favourite memory from working at MASS?

Several years ago on a nice summer evening we all went out to pub in Wokingham town centre (nothing new!) and on this particular night we really enjoyed watching people that walked past the pub get tricked. Someone, not us, had stuck a £5 note to the floor and we all enjoyed laughing at them when they tried to pick it up. I enjoy it when we all laugh together and have fun.

Your most embarrassing work moment?

For Christmas Secret Santa 3 years ago the theme was that we had to buy them something to wear at our Annual Christmas Do. I bought my colleague a nice pink wig and a moustache. However...when he opened it, somehow he unwrapped a knitted rainbow ‘Willy Warmer’ and still to this day I have no idea how that got in there, I definitely didn't buy it!
