Memories of the Holidays As we go about our own Holiday traditions. Shopping together, meeting friends for a gift exchange, putting up the decorations, baking cookies, or watching our favorite movie. We remember the past. The loved ones that are gone and the ones that now live far away. As the Holidays come and go always embrace the memories and pray for all to have a great Christmas. Rather they are here or far away. We pray for love and for the memories to keep a smile on our face as well as a warm feeling in our hearts.
Trinity’s Christmas Caroling Join us on Sunday, December 8th at 2pm. Meet at the home of Ron & Dottie Kraus and we will begin caroling to our shut-ins. A potluck will be served after. Question 64. What coveting does God
forbid in the Ninth Commandment?
God forbids every sinful desire to get ourneighbor's possessions openly or by trickery.
Catechetical CommentsA Series
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
This month we continue consideration of the Ninth Commandment:
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’sinheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him inkeeping it.
The Catechism 1991 answers the question:“What coveting does God forbid in the NinthCommandment?” by saying that God forbidsevery sinful desire to get our neighbor'spossessions openly or by trickery, and then liststhe following verses:
Micah 2:1-2 – Woe to those who devise wicked-ness.... They covet fields and seize them, andhouses, and take them away; they oppress a manand his house, a man and his inheritance.
1 Tim. 6:8-10 – If we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those whodesire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires thatplunge people into ruin and destruction. For thelove of money is a root of all kinds of evil. It isthrough this craving that some have wanderedaway from the faith and pierced themselves withmany pangs.
It also adds the following Bible narrative: “Ahab covet-ed Naboth's vineyard and got it in a way that onlyseemed right” (1 Kings 21:1-16).
I don’t want to be rich. Whew! There, I said it! I’m glad to get that out in the open. I don’t want to be
poor, either, by the way. I want to be content withwhat I have and secure a reasonably comfortablefuture as the Lord provides.
But, for some people, getting rich is everything. St.Paul says that such people fall into senseless andharmful desires that plunge them into ruin anddestruction (1 Tim. 6:9). I don’t want that.
Some people are so eager to get rich that they’lldo anything to achieve that goal. Micah seems to bereferencing King Ahab, who in 1 Ki. 21 had hisneighbor Naboth falsely accused of blasphemy so thathe could have him stoned to death and thereby gaincontrol of his vineyard. He didn’t “steal” the vineyardoutright, but he contrived a way to get it that“seemed” right to others. God, of course, knew thetruth, and, as far as He was concerned, there wasreally no difference.
Money is a tool, a means to an end; it is not thedestination. But, for some people, it is the “be all, endall.” Money itself is not the “root of all evil,” but the
love of money is (1 Tim. 6:10), because it creates acraving that can never be satisfied. How much money
does an NFL running back need? $15 million a year? Do you realize that only $1 million would set you upcomfortably for the rest of your life?
Apparently, it’s not really about “need.” It’s about“want.” And when that “want” has moved into yourheart and taken up residence, it’ll never be satisfiedwith the furnishings.
John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil andarguably the richest man of the early 20th century, wasonce asked, “How much money is enough?” Hereplied, “A little bit more.” Boy, was he wrong! T

TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH - FINANCIAL REPORT OCT 2019
Nurse’s Corner.
Maybe this has been your year … you’ve jumped into health and wellness head first. You explored CPS’ programs and found the perfect fit for you! But now, the (dreaded, over-indulgent) holiday season is approaching and you’re worried that the traditional holiday fare will add everything back to your waistline. Or maybe you’re still trying to find your health groove and think there’s no point in starting now. Believe it or not, now is the perfect time to start focusing on your health.
Are you a Concordia Health Plan member? If so, you have access to a variety of programs that can deliver totally do-able baby steps that give you success and confidence no matter what season it is.
Not a Concordia Health Plan member? That’s ok! Here are 5 tips and tricks to keep calorie counts and weight gain low this, and every, season.
• The good stuff first: Research shows that going for your favorite first over skipping it until the end leaves you feeling more satisfied with your meal. Plus, wouldn’t you make room for a favorite of yours? Most do and then end up overeating, which complicates our health. Be sure to slowly savor only a small portion of that favorite food. Then fill up on vegetables and other nutrient rich foods for the rest of your meal.
• Hold off until hungry: Dessert is delicious! But eating outside of when you’re hungry can cause gastrointestinal distress in the short term. In the long term, eating when not hungry challenge weight management goals. Hold off on dessert until your belly growls again. Maybe that won’t be until the family gathering is over, but most hostesses will give you a doggie bag with your dessert to savor later.
• Drink water with the meal: Hydrating with low to zero calorie
• Servant hands (and feet): Instead of sitting on the couch waiting for the meal, see if you can help out. Maybe that means chopping something in the kitchen or chasing foul balls for the kids playing outside. This way you’re getting more movement in the same day you’re also probably getting more calories in.
• Keep Calm and Enjoy: One meal does not make you healthy nor does it make you unhealthy. Health is about day-in and day-out habits combining together. If you are conscious about your health all year round, you cannot ruin progress in one day or in one meal. Enjoy your meal and face that God gave us such a beautiful and tasty platform to use as a way to build relationships with others. If you have time, squeeze in a quick, brisk walk to burn some of the extra calories you’re taking in. Everything helps!
From the Principal
The Christmas Problem
Once upon a Christmas Eve, a man sat in reflective silence before the
fireplace, pondering the meaning of Christmas. “There is no point to a God
who becomes man,” he mused. “Why would an all-powerful God want to
share even one of His precious moments with the likes of man? And even if
He did, why would He choose to be born in an animal stall? No way! The
whole thing is absurd! I’m sure that if God really wanted to come down to
earth, He would have chosen some other way.” Suddenly, the man was roused from his reverie by a strange sound outside. He went to the window and saw a small gaggle of
blue geese frantically honking and aimlessly flopping about in the snow. They seemed dazed and
confused. Apparently, they had dropped out in exhaustion from the flight formations of a larger flock on
its way from the Arctic Islands to the warmer climes of the Gulf of Mexico. Moved to compassion, the man
tried to “shoo” the poor geese into his warm garage, but the more he “shooed” the more they panicked. “If they only realized I’m only trying to do what’s best for them,” he thought to himself. “How can I make them understand my concern for their well-being?” Then, this thought came to him: “If for just a minute, I
could become one of them, an ordinary goose, and communicate with them in their own language, they
would know what I am trying to do.” And suddenly … suddenly, he remembered Christmas and a smile
came over his face. Suddenly, the Christmas story no longer seemed absurd. Suddenly, he pictured
that ordinary-looking infant, lying in the manger, in that stable in Bethlehem, and he knew the answer to
his Christmas problem: God had become one of us to tell us that He loves us.
Ah, dearest Jesus, Holy Child
Ah, dearest Jesus, Holy Child,
Make thee a bed, soft, undefiled,
Within my heart, that it may be
A quiet chamber kept for Thee.
My heart for very joy doth leap,
My lips no more can silence keep,
I too must sing, with joyful tongue,
That sweetest ancient cradle song,
Glory to God in highest heaven,
Who unto man His Son hath given
While angels sing with pious mirth.
A glad new year to all the earth.
Merry Christmas, Pastor GeRue

Year 3 November 2019
Hello from Hungary!
As the end of October drew nigh there were a variety of activities going on
here both in and out of school. At school, the Thursday before fall break we
had our fall semester Csendesnap (Bible study day) for the students. There
were different activities for them, including listening to different Christian
music performances and a puppet show. Outside of school, the renovations at
the church office building were finally completed, so there was a dedication
service. The choir sang at it.
The last week of October into the first few days of November were the fall
break here.
We just finished our first week back at school after the fall break. Many of the
students said that they had a good time, but that the break was too short.
They’re already looking forward to Christmas break in December!
Peace,

In My Weakness HE is Strong
I imagine that this is true for everyone, but some weeks I’m just tired. This past week was one of those for me. I had a
few nights of not sleeping well, which didn’t help either. And as Murphy’s Law would dictate, it’s always these weeks
where a lot of unexpected things come up, too. However, when I take the time to step outside of the tiredness or the
chaos, it’s weeks just like this that remind me of the words from 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “In my weakness, He is strong.”
And this past week was no exception. A perfect example would be Wednesday. I
teach six classes on Wednesday, starting first period, ending eighth period, with
no time for lunch but a few free periods in the morning; and then I go straight
from school to tutoring. By seventh period on Wednesday, I felt spent. As I
prepared for class to start, I silently prayed, “Lord, I am spent, and I have two
classes left, but these kids need 100% of my focus and energy and effort.
Please. Please give me the energy for class.” And He did. He also supplied smiles
and patience (as needed).

English Circle at the Kollégium
One of the activities I’m involved in here outside of teaching at the school is going to
Luther Márton kollégium (Martin Luther dorm) on Monday evenings and simply
conversing with students interested in practicing or using their English. It lasts
anywhere from half an hour to an hour depending on the students that come that
week.
The past several weeks, one of the same 9th graders has been coming. English is her
favorite subject. After talking about our fall breaks and different things happening in
different classes at school, she asked me, “Do you believe in ghosts or the
paranormal?” Which led to a discussion on what the Bible tells us about spirits, and
demons and angels. In the conversation it came up that sometimes, because we are
human, we can’t understand or explain everything, but we can always trust that God is
biggest and has a plan. But I could tell that there was something that she wasn’t saying.
I gave her a minute, silently saying a prayer myself that God would guide me and the
words that I would say. “It looks like you are thinking big thoughts,” I said, “Would you
like to share? You don’t have to. But you can.” “You might think I’m crazy,” she said,
“But… I saw this video on YouTube about talking to your guardian angel.” She summed
up the video for me. So, we then discussed angels, and we talked about times in the
Bible that angels appeared to people and ways that God uses angels. Before she left for
dinner, I asked her, “Would you like to pray together? We don’t have to, but we can.”
“Yes,” she said, “I’d like that.” We prayed together.

Our Food Pantry has been very blessed this year by your food and financial donations. We have also been blessed by Festival Foods who have provided the pantry with meat, bread and other grocery items. All of this support has allowed us to continue to serve people in our community who need nutritional assistance. Thank you so much for your past and continued support of our pantry. If you or anyone you know could benefit from our food pantry, please have them contact Sandy Guiley @ 920-969-0475.
The Story about Jesus’ Birth. So, Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:1-7
