Joan Lansing Named Parade
Grand Marshall
Joan Lansing
Mrs. Joan Lansing has been named this year’s Grand Marshall for the annual Central Christmas Parade. Mrs. Joan is receiving this honor because of her many years of service to the Central community, including her years as a Central City Council member, her contributions to the Central business community, and her countless hours of work for local charitable organizations. Congratulations to Mrs. Joan Lansing. You can see Mrs. Lansing, lots of fun floats and performers, and even Santa in this Saturday’s Central Christmas Parade, which will run down Joor Road from Hooper to Lovett beginning at 10 AM. You can also join other community members in celebrating the Christmas season at tonight’s Central Tree Lighting at the corner of Hooper and Sullivan. The event begins at 6:30 PM.

Agenda for December 8th Elections Committee Meeting “Opportunity is missed by most
people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison A Christmas parade, Louisiana’s newest city, Christmas decorations at the corner, a top ranked school system, retail and neighborhood developments, civic and charitable organizations, Cooking in Central, and theater, sports, and dance for
every aspiring youth. How did all of this happen? Simple. Overalls. By the time everyone is enjoying all of the great events and benefits of living in Central, people who usually remain anonymous by choice, have put on their overalls and spent weeks, months, or even years, laying the foundation and preparing the way for everyone else to benefit from their work. I’m not sure if it is because we are Americans, Southerners, or just living in Central, but it seems that people see a need or an opportunity, and accomplish worthwhile things in spite of the odds. I guess no one told these people in their overalls that what they were trying to do was impossible. “The person who says something is impossible should not interrupt the person who is doing it.” – Chinese Proverb It is very likely that everyone reading this has seized opportunities as they have appeared in your lives, by coaching, volunteering, leading, and creating. So be on the lookout for the next chance to pitch in. When you see an otherwise normal person here in Central, wearing overalls and working hard to accomplish something that you would normally deem impossible, or at least not worth the effort, try not to criticize or doubt them. They obviously are not aware that the task is supposed to be impossible, and they are probably going to succeed anyway, so consider pitching in and helping. That would be Good News for a Great City.

PRESS RELEASE A new Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) is being planned on property along the west side of Sullivan Rd across from Walmart. Your input is being requested as part of the design process. An introductory public meeting, called a “charrette,” to explain the proposed development will be held on Monday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lovett Road Park Recreation Building, 13443 Lovett Road. A charrette is a collaborative planning process that harnesses the talent and energy of everyone from city planners to business owners working together with the public to arrive at the best possible solution
to the complexities and design issues of a new development. In case you can’t make it to the meeting on Monday night, planners for the project will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Lovett Rd Recreation Building to meet with citizens, business owners, and other interested parties. A final public meeting with results from comments received will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 6pm at the Lovett Rd Recreation Building. This new kind of neighborhood is being designed to create a sense of community, a sense of place, and a sense of high architectural character and standards. A vast array of
housing styles not currently available in Central with town squares consisting of residential, commercial, and civic uses are being planned along with public amenities including parks that are within a 5 minute walk of every home. Can’t imagine? That’s okay because it’s never been done in Central before until now. Please make plans to attend this forum to learn and exchange ideas for developing this new neighborhood community. Key speaker will be Steven Oubre of Architects Southwest, who was instrumental in the development of River Ranch in Lafayette. He will explain the concepts of New Urbanism and Traditional Neighborhood Developments.

As I write down my thoughts for this edition of the Rebel Yell, my mind is obviously on the holiday season. On Sunday, November 23, I returned to Illinois for the first time in five months to visit my daughter whom I hadn’t seen since the middle of June. This homecoming was bittersweet for me in that I got to see friends and family again, but I had to put up with cold weather and snow. (I hate the Illinois winters!) It was in the low 20’s and there were a couple of inches of snow on the ground in Springfield, Illinois.
Once again I want to speak of the family atmosphere at CPS. I could not have asked for a better community in which to relocate than the CPS family and the City of Central. I feel that I have come to a place that values education, that respects educators, and has graciously welcomed me into their community. It is largely because of this that I have not felt homesick, as I feel that Central Private has now become my most immediate family and offers a tremendous support system to all folks connected with our school community.
On Thursday, November 20, I attended the Central Community Thanksgiving Worship Service, sponsored by the Central Area Pastors Association and hosted by St. Alphonsus Church. It was satisfying to see most denominations and faiths of the Central Community participate in this service. Protestant, Catholic, Fundamentalist, and Conservative Ministers shared the pulpit together to celebrate the season for which we all
have so much to be thankful. On this particular night these ministers and their congregations put away their doctrinal differences as choirs sang, scripture was read, responsive readings were used, prayers were said, and a homily was spoken, all for the purpose of collectively thanking and praising our Lord God and Creator. For me personally this could not have come at a more appropriate time, as I was beginning to miss some of the traditions of my former community of the past forty years. The service itself reminded me that we all have much to be thankful for, and that we should all look at what we can personally do to bring some joy and relief to others less fortunate than ourselves.
As the Christmas season approaches, please take the time to reflect on the true meaning and purpose of the season. Too many times, out of political correctness, the Christmas season has been sanitized to leave God out of the celebration. This season is about thanking God, not ignoring Him for the many blessings He has bestowed on us and for the sending of His Son for our salvation. I wish all of the CPS family and the Community of Central a Merry Christmas season. Enjoy your holidays, spend time with your loved ones, and recharge your energy for the New Year. Thank you for all you do for Central Private and the Central Community. Please keep Cole Browning and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this season of celebration.

By Coach Melton The Central High Boys soccer team is off to a good start with a 3-2 overall record. Over the Thanksgiving Holiday they played in the inaugural ACH Lions Cup held at Ascension Christian High School in Gonzales. Thanks to a great team effort they dominated both games and won by a combined score of 9-0. The stealer defense only gave up two shots on goal in both games. They were lead by Conner Burns and Justin Jernigan. Brady Munn and Noah Fralick played great on the outside keeping everyone shut down. Freshman Chandler Richard was able to claim his second and third clean sheets for the season. His first came against Plaquemine High in the Walker Kick Off Classic. Leading the team so far on the offensive side is Junior Ross Melton with 6 goals and 2 assists along with Senior David Gutierrez who has 2 goals and 2 assists. Kyle Kennedy has been holding down the center of the field and doing a great job of managing the game. The team starts district play this week against powerful Denham Springs and Zachary. You are all invited to come out and take in a great match. This letter is from a service member who is currently deployed overseas. We wish to express our greatest appreciation to all those who helped my wife through the birth of our son, Alan Benjamin, the day before Thanksgiving at Ochsner Health Center on O'Neal Lane. To Elizabeth – You are probably still upset at Daddy for not being there beside Mommy to welcome the arrival of your little brother. You are too young to read or understand why Daddy is not home but I hope one day when you are old enough to understand you would forgive me for not being there. To Bradley – Thank you for being such a great brother and an awesome uncle. Whoever finds you is one lucky lady. Fortunately for us, she has not found you yet; we could not have managed without you. To Mom, sisters and family – Thank you for everything. Your love is the constant support that we lean on. To the staff at Ochsner Health Center – Please accept my deepest gratitude for helping my wife and son. Thank you for your compassionate and professional care. To my dear wife and son – Please forgive me for slacking on my duty as husband and father. Your support and sacrifice enable me to fulfill the duty of serving the country. Honey, you are a warrior in your own right. With much love and respect,BC

As always, stop by the Guard Booth in the front yard to make a donation to this year’s cause. This year they are also an official drop off location for The U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program, and they will accept new, unwrapped toys through December 21st.
