AAA Word From the Pastor December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As you well know, it is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, because the Feast falls on the Second Sunday of Advent this year, the celebration of the Feast Day is transferred by the Church to Monday, December 9 but NOT the obli-gation to attend Mass on December 9. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM as usual. Thank you to all who took tags from the Giving Tree last weekend. If you missed the tree last weekend, you can still take a tag this weekend but PLEASE return all gifts by next weekend, December 14-15 so that the gifts can be distributed in time for Christmas. Participating in the Giving Tree Project sponsored by the Parish Social Ministry is an excellent way to show a thankful spirit for the blessings we have re-ceived in our lives. Please see the announcement printed elsewhere in the bulletin for additional infor-mation. The Religious Retirement Collection will take place THIS WEEKEND in all the parishes of the Dio-cese of Rockville Centre. Our continued goal is to provide financial assistance for the challenges that our religious face because of the rising cost of healthcare. This collection helps to fund daily essentials like prescription medications and nursing care. Over 30,000 other senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and reli-gious order priests outside the Diocese of Rockville Centre will benefit from the Retirement Fund for Religious. Most ministered in Catholic schools, hospitals, parishes, and social service agencies, usually for little or no pay. Today, hundreds of religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious offers vital support for necessities, such as medications and nursing care. Mark your calendars and plan to attend the pasta dinner on Monday, December 16. All are invited, but PLEASE, PLEASE RSVP by calling the Rectory Office at 516-921-2334 to make your reservation. The din-ner will be prepared and offered by the seventh and eighth level in HNJ's Religious Education Program. The meal will be prepared, cooked and supervised by their catechists, Deacon Chris Sisinni and Lori Krotz. Proponents of doctor assisted suicide are pushing their agenda in states across the country, and New York State is in their sights. They seek to make it legal for terminally ill patients to receive life-ending drugs. These policies are dangerous for patients, caregivers, and vulnerable populations such as the elderly and persons who are disabled. SUICIDE IS NOT MEDICAL CARE. Please tell your Senate and Assembly representatives that you oppose this dangerous and deadly practice. Take action by signing one of the following online petitions:www.nyscatholic.org/nys-catholic-conference-action-center/www.NYagainstAS.com

Giving Tree On November 30

th, we will be setting up our Annual Advent Giving Tree in the narthex of the church. Your wonderful

generosity in the past has been greatly appreciated. Everyone is invited to participate in this heartwarming Holy Name

of Jesus family Advent project.

Again this year we will be providing gifts to the “INN” of Long Island. This includes over 100 children and adults.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Please no more than three items, each under $25.00 or up to $50.00.

2. Take a name tag from the tree. If children take a tag, please sign for it.

3. Sign the sign-up sheet and supply all necessary information. Please be accurate about this.

IF YOU DO TAKE A TAG FROM THE TREE — PLEASE SIGN IT OUT ON THE PROVIDED SHEETS SO

THAT WE HAVE A RECORD TO CHECK. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

4. All gifts must be new.

5. Place the cut top portion of the tag with the name and # taped securely to the gift.

6. All gifts must be returned by DECEMBER 15th. It is very important that we receive them by then. We must sort

and package them for pickup on December 17th.

IF THERE ARE NO TAGS LEFT ON THE TREE AND YOU STILL WISH TO HELP, WE WOULD

APPRECIATE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING GIFTS: Blankets, hats, scarves, gloves and gift cards to Target/Kohl’s.

Place the gift cards in a gift box to ensure safety. You may also return gift cards to the parish office.

Thanks so much—- The Giving Tree Committee

FOCUS: Lord, you came to establish your kingdom of

justice and peace. We know that we have failed to live

up to your call. Like those who came to John the

Baptist, we now ask for the grace to turn away from si

and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ in our

lives. In the first reading, a prophet looks forward to an ideal king. His kingdom will be filled with divine wisdom. In the second reading, we receive assurance that God will

help us work together for the good of all. In the Gospel,

John the Baptist prepares the way for Jesus by preaching the need for repentance and ritualizing that need through baptism. Published by Franciscan Media
