DECEMBER 8, 2019 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

OLDP updates Thank you to our Knights of Columbus, and others who helped, for putting up our out-door Nativity Scene and the giant Christmas Tree. Thank you to Steve Morgan for a wonderful Advent Mission this past week. Just a reminder that the “Name the Fest” Contest is now open to everyone in our Parish, men, women, and children. There are contest fliers on the back tables of the Church as well as in the bulletin. If your theme idea is selected you can win “2” armbands to ride the rides,

all weekend of the Fest, and a Fest T-Shirt. Entries must be received in the Church office no later than Mon-day, December 30, 2019. Also, this year we are trying something new. We are calling it: “Fill the Fence for the Fest” and it is an opportunity to demonstrate our OLDP Parish Pride. We would love to see our fence covered with signs this year. Signs can be in memory of a loved one, to sponsor a business, to acknowledge the Blessed Mother, to root for the Saints or LSU or Tulane, for answered Prayer, to wish someone a Happy Birthday or Anniver-sary, to promote your ministry or organization or school, etc. Each sign will cost $100, the same as our booth sponsor signs. Please fill out one of the forms on the back tables of the Church and send your sign design info to the church with your $100 check made out to Our Lady of Divine Providence. There is no limit to how many signs you can have on the Fence. The only limit is when the fence is full. I plan on doing 3 signs to start things off, with my $300 donation for the signs. Our “Fill the Fence for the Fest” promotion will be going on through March, so you have plenty of time. How cool would it be if we could completely cover our fence for when visitors come to our 2020 Spring Fest? Next weekend is our 2nd Collection for Building & Maintenance. Since we just had another roof repair costing $1,904.00 and had to replace one of our heavy duty outside Church Windows, that protect the stained glass windows costing $925.00, any donations to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued generosity for our Church needs.

God bless you, Fr. Mike

DECEMBER 8, 2019 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Second Sunday of Advent

MODERN-DAY JOHN THE BAPTISTS Have you ever wondered what John the Baptist might look and act like if he were to appear today? Each of us has probably encountered someone in our lives who prepared a way that the Lord could use to come into our presence. We often think of people like Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who certainly pre-pared the way for the Lord as she ministered to the poorest of the poor in the streets of India. We also think of the saints who throughout the ages have risked their lives to announce the message of salva-tion that comes through belief in the death and resur-rection of Jesus Christ. Have you ever been John the Baptist for anyone? Have you ever prepared the way of the Lord for someone in your life?

PREPARING THE WAY FOR THE LORD

We encounter people at every Mass who help prepare the way for the Lord each and every week. Our ushers and greeters make us feel welcome and help prepare us to encounter the Lord. When our musicians lead us in the opening song of the Mass, their talents help prepare the way for the coming of the Lord. When the lectors, priests, and deacons proclaim God’s living word, another way of the Lord is opened before us. When the priest prays the sacred prayers of the Mass, the way is prepared for the sacramental presence of Christ to enter our hearts. We believe that the Lord Jesus is the shoot that sprouted from the stump of Jes-se, the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. Perhaps each of us can become a present-day John the Baptist by continuing to make the ground fertile for the sprouting and growth of the Lord Jesus in ever new and surpris-ing ways. We can be John the Baptist for those who are seeking ways to encounter the Lord. Copyright © 2007, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Segundo Domingo de Adviento

UN JUAN BAUTISTA DE NUESTROS DÍAS ¿Te has preguntado alguna vez qué facha
