Advent IIHere at St. Paul’s we celebrate All Family Communion, mean-ing that people of all ages are invited to receive Holy Com-munion. Like with infant bap-
tism, we base All Family Commu-
nion in teach-ings such as Christ’s command: “Let the little ones
come to me, and do not
stop them” (Matthew 19:14) and Martin Luther’s commentary that a “sacrament is not rendered false because of an individu-al’s unworthiness or unbelief. Christ does not say, ‘If you
believe…you have my body’…but rather, ‘Take, eat…Do this.’…whether you are worthy or unworthy, you have here his body and blood by the power of these words that are con-nected to the bread and wine” (Large Catechism 5:17-18, Book of Concord, 468).
Therefore, in place of pre-requisite ‘First Communion Classes’ and First Communion ceremony, we have a spe-cial celebration of All Family Communion each year where we commune everyone and celebrate everyone’s uncondi-tional invitation to the Lord’s Supper. The Celebration of All Family Communion will be during worship on Sunday, December 22.

Want to sleep in that morning or maybe worship twice that Sunday?
No matter the reason, come join us for Last Chance Mass on Sunday evening, December 8th at 5:00 p.m. – a brief 20-30 minute worship service with Holy Communion. The offering for the evening will be designated to The Gubbio Project – a chaplaincy organization that builds relationships with and provides pastoral care for the shelterless on the streets of San Francisco, connecting them to social resources, while also helping them find church sanctuaries around the city in which they can sleep during the day. The SPLC Church Council will match the offering up to $500! This Last Chance Mass also provides us an opportunity to experiment with an additional and slight-ly alternative worship service.

On Sunday, December 8, Blake Greenwaldt, grandson of Terri Moen, will sing a solo accompanied by his mother.
St. Paul’s Mixed Choir will be singing “Waiting for Beth-
lehem’s Light” on Sunday, December 15.
St. Paul’s Sunday School will hold its annual Christmas pro-gram on Sunday, December 22 during worship.

•Give to the Max Day - November 14th, 2019•Gubbio Project (CGC Team): A motion by Micha-lene was made to donate the offering from an evening Advent service to the Gubbio Project - a chaplaincy ministry that seeks to build rela-tionships with people who are homeless on the streets of San Francisco, connecting them with sanctuaries in which they can sleep during the
day, basic hygienic items, and social resourc-es. The Church Council will match donations up to $500. There will be no Thanksgiving Eve worship service in 2019. Katerri seconded this motion.
•Motion by Ron to approve a salary of $45,000 for Pastor Joe along with pension, mileage, continuing education, parsonage utilities, and insurance (adjusted accordingly to base sala-ry). Continuing education of two weeks (in-cluding one Sunday), vacation of four weeks (including five Sundays), and paternity leave (6 weeks paid, including 6 Sundays) was also established within the approved compensation package. Kahla seconds. Motion PASSED.
•Pr. Joe, for tax purposes, asked that $3,000 of the $45,000 salary be categorized as furnish-ing allowance. Motion by Bob to accept the allocation of $3000 to be for furnishing the parsonage. Ron seconds. Motion PASSED.
•October Personnel Meetings: Discussed job de-scriptions of all 3 SPLC personnel. Dennis, Lori, and Carol all seem generally satisfied with the job descriptions as they are. Some conversation was had, however, about tracking Carol’s hours since the church is increasingly busy and demanding more hours for cleaning. We want to make sure Carol is being compensated fairly for her work in cleaning the entire church building every week.
•Insurance Reimbursement from Break-in: replace-ment supplies/equipment are pending delivery. Michalene noted that we find the the Actual Cost Value of the Sunday School TV so it can be sent to the Sunday School account.
•Thanksgiving Week Worship: no worship•Advent ‘Last Chance Mass’: Will be held on Sunday evening, December 8th @ 5:00 p.m. in lieu of no Thanksgiving week service.

November 10, 2019 WELCA meeting minutesThe November meeting of St. Paul’s WELCA was called to order by president Pam Jones with 10 mem-bers present.
Devotions were given by Esther Circle.
The secretary’s report was read. A motion was made to approve the report, was seconded and approved.
The treasurer’s report was read with the following balances on hand: $11,575.61 general, $2265.33 kitch-en, with $1,378 set aside for a kitchen refrigerator, $1995.56 mission, $898.46 altar. A motion to place the report on file was approved.
SUNSHINE: Let R’dell know of anyone who should be sent a card.
ALTAR: The council voted not to purchase battery-op-erated candles; instead, we will continue to use actual candles. The council will make a decision on what to do about the current candle wax protectors. The sub-ject of new altar cloths was brought up by Lori, since the ones we have now are getting old and are hard to clean. It was suggested that Lori look into altar cloths and the altar committee can purchase them.
MISSION GROWTH: Jane has been approved by Thrivent for funds to purchase flannel.
GLENWOOD RETIREMENT VILLAGE: Annual cookie walk will be December 7 and St. Paul’s is requested to furnish 30 dozen small Christmas cookies with no peanut blossoms. Gail Larson will take them down to the cookie walk on Friday, so cookies need to be at the church by noon on December 6.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: WELCA officers met to discuss the end of the year distribution of funds. It was decided
to increase the donation to the kitchen fund to $700 to put more toward a future refrigerator.
Discussion was held on the money given to the Sunday School and whether or not to change the amount given since they have plenty of funds in their account. It was decided to decrease the funds to the Sunday School by $200 and put that toward the Harold Anderson fund. WELCA will also check with Sunday School at the beginning of the next year to see where they stand financially and if they need our help.
In all, the total of the year-end disbursements is 10,325.00. A motion was made to accept the dis-bursements. It was seconded and approved.
Lori will also make cards for the monetary gifts that WELCA will give out.
Thankoffering is November 17. Whatever is received will be rounded up to the next $50 and a check will be sent to ELCA.
Mission quilting hours for winter will change to 1-4 p.m. on Mondays and 9-noon on Tuesday for the months of November-March, with no quilting in De-cember.
A motion was made to adjourn. It was seconded and approved.
•Battery-powered Christmas Eve candles: No motion was given to switch over to battery powered can-dles for Christmas Eve. Council discussed purchas-ing new wax guards for the candles and discussed the importance of being mindful of dripping wax on the pews and flooring.

Thank you Saint Pauls for helping me go toLuther Crest. I had so much fun with my cabin Cowdry. I went with Claira Frey we we both had fun and made new freinds. My favorite part of the week was when my cabin went to a circle chaple in woods that sur-rounds Luther Crest. We went to the chaple called Jamaica. We made gumbo over the fire and played games. Later we played games and had s’mores. An-other thing I really lvoed about camp was bible dive. Bible dive was the part of the day where your cabin would read, discuss, and act out the bible verses. I had some much fun. Thank you for helping me go to camp!
