Bach Vespers takes place within the context of a Lutheran Worship Service, giving us a glimpse of the mu-sic in rela on to its intended ecclesias cal purpose. J. S. Bach’s cantata Ich habe genug (I have enough) is built on the words of Simeon which proclaim one of Chris ani-ty’s central tenets that, in Christ, we share an abun-dance of gi s and, therefore we have all we need. Psalm 30 by Thomas White is a song that begins with lament and then transforms into victory: “You have turned my mourning into dancing." The program of the Bach Ves-pers is designed to enable us to reflect on the joys and sorrows of our past and to remind us that music and the arts can be a perpetual source of healing.

Bishop Ga jen of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod will be the guest speaker. Find out more at: harstadarts.org.

PRAYER SHAWL BLESSING On Sunday, January 31 there were 33 pray-er shawls draped over the pews in the Sanctuary for a blessing. Pastor Mark en-couraged the congrega on to place their hands on a prayer shawl for this blessing ...

“Gracious God we thank you for Your loving hands which knits together the fabric of all life. On this day, we thank you for the lov-ing hands of those who have knit these prayer shawls, for their prayers of hope, healing and the comfor ng peace of your presence have been woven into each s tch. We ask you to bless these shawls with your love and healing grace, so they may bring comfort and healing strength to those who receive them. May they feel the warm em-brace of all our prayers wrap around them as they use these shawls. May they also serve as a reminder of how we are all knit together into the one body of Christ, woven together in your love, and guided and sus-tained by the Holy Spirit. Knit now our prayers and the spirit of your love into each of these shawls as we dedicate them to your glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN ” Come join us in this Prayer Shawl Ministry – we meet the first Wednesday of each month from 11:30 – 1:00. Contact Debbie Anderson (859-263-8412) or Linda McDan-iel (859-296-6627)

FLY…MARCH EVENTS

There Is No Peace… Over the years, many people have made statements along the lines of, "There is no Peace without Jus ce."

Typically we think about that in a global way, and look at countries who never really seem to experience peace, where there is always some undercurrent of unrest. When we inspect those countries more close-ly what we o en find is a culture of injus ces: racial and ethnic inequali es, corrupt governments, class systems based on repression, various types of dis-crimina on based on any number of stereotypical be-liefs. But today, let's take a look at "...no peace without jus ce..." from the level of the individual. There is no peace of mind without jus ce. I believe that. Imagine any me when you have felt the s ng of being treat-ed unjustly/unfairly. It has happened to all of us. At one me or another I suspect each of us has had at least a thought of "That happened because I ________________.” Fill in the space.. am a woman, am older, am black, am a man, speak with an accent, am poor, come from the mountains, didn't go to

school. The point is that those thoughts and the feel-ings associated with them create a chink in your piece of mind. Most of us in this church might experience the situa on, but shrug it off later because we get other input that tells us we're okay. Now imagine how it would be to be faced with a daily barrage of feedback that indicates that there is something terri-bly wrong with you, but there is nothing you can do about it. Many of our brothers and sisters in Lexing-ton live that kind of life every day (many of them are children). How would that affect your peace of mind, your feelings of self-worth, your stress level, your thoughts about "pulling yourself up by your boot-straps," your ability to drag yourself out of bed each morning to face another day of injus ce? Our brothers and sisters in Lexington need all of us in the fight against injus ce. They need your support to cap the interest on payday loans, to have safe neigh-borhoods, and to have ready access to mental health services. These are the issues we will address at the Nehemiah Ac on Assembly on April 12 (Tuesday) at 7:00pm at Heritage Hall. There is free parking in the Vine Street and Cox Street parking lots.
