“I feel honored by what
my students have accom-
plished. I keep telling
anyone who will listen
how BIG of a deal this
truly is. The competition
is hard to understand on
many levels, but at the
core it is simply students
telling a story. The ac-
tors inspire me to listen
to the world and stories I
encounter everyday - they
brighten reality for the
audience and for this I
am thankful. I am hon-
ored to be amongst a
group of professionals
who are passionate and
grateful to study their
craft. We took 35 entries
to state, 15 semifinalist in
acting, 9 finalists in act-
ing, 6 finalists in tech-
nical, and 9 placements.
WOW - I am one proud
director, teacher and
coach! “ - Jared Helm

We had a total of 234 reg-
istered donors. 194 suc-
cessfully donated and we
had a total of 222 units of
blood gained. The num-
ber gained is greater than
the number of donors due
to people donating what
is called a “Double-Red
Blood Cell” donation.
This donation counts
as 2 units of blood for
the drive. Thank you
to all that donated!

members have
been made honor-
ary elves and are
helping Santa
with his corre-
spondence. This year’s letters, just
about 100 or so, come from the se-
cond graders at Hayden Meadows
Elementary School. Mr. Peebles’s
class, Mrs. Walsh’s class, Ms.
Feely’s class, and Mr. Seman’s class
all wrote letters to Santa a couple
weeks ago, and after reading them,
Santa forwarded them to us so we
could read the notes he jotted down
and write back for him, just like the
regular elves do. He even sent us
some of his special stationery to
use. NHS mem-
bers are delighted
to help the big
guy make wishes
come true.

Seven generations after Ebenezer
Scrooge first said “Bah Humbug!” a
completely new Christmas Carol, is
a new work inspired by the original
tale by Charles Dickens. Set in
modern day Seattle, 7th Generation
stars Bethany Stone as Elizabeth
Moore, the great, great, great, great
granddaughter of Ebenezer Scrooge
and Paige Erble as her assistant,
Bobby Carol.
It’s Christmas Eve in downtown
Seattle as the play opens. Elizabeth
Moore fights off persistent Christ-
mas carolers, refuses all invitations
to celebrate and goes to bed early.
Her ex-boyfriend, Jacob Marley ap-
pears in a dream, eating orange
chicken and predicting ghostly visit-
ations. Each ghost visit paints a
portion of the growing portrait, ex-
posing loss and hope and the sur-
prising power of love. The story of
Elizabeth’s dream begins when she
wakes up to discover Christmas
morning.
The CHS drama department proud-
ly presents 7th Generation: A
Christmas Carol. Written by Mi-
chael Murray and directed by Jared
A. Helm The 30 Member cast will
perform the last 3 shows on Decem-
ber 18th, 19th and 20th. All Shows
begin at 7pm. For ticket infor-
mation visit www.chstheater.org or

porting local performing arts in the

days!

Fight for the Fish………
Viking Lacrosse has experienced growth this year! That is
great news for our sport, but with that growth came greater ex-
penses in new uniforms and travel. Help support our team and
have a great time doing it. Register for the Viking Lacrosse
Corn Hole Tournament! See our event page on Facebook “Viking

Viking Lacrosse:
This year’s Fight for the Fish will be held
the in the Lake City gymnasium. The
first basketball game between Coeur
d’Alene and Lake City’s varsity girl’s
teams will begin at 5:30pm on Friday
January 16th, 2015. The varsity
boy’s game will follow upon the
completion of the previous game
and after spirit activities in the
interim. The ticket admission price
is $5 and all CHS students attend-
ing are required to purchase a
spirit pack with their ticket for a
bundled price of $15. Tickets and
spirit packs will be on sale
throughout the week of January
12th during both lunches in the com-
mons.
Fight for the Fish fosters school spirit
between the cross-town rival schools,
while also taking the opportunity to give
back to the community. Each school will
make a donation to the Kootenai County
Task Force on Human Relations which
bases its values on the great principles of
the dignity and worth of each human
being, found in the Declaration of
Independence, The United States
Constitution, and the State Constitu-
tion of Idaho. The basketball games
are interwoven with spirit competi-
tions. At the end of the boy’s
basketball game, the winner
of “The Fish” will be an-
nounced. This winner is
based upon the sportsman-
like school spirit that is ex-
hibited by each school,
through the cheers done by
the student sections, inte-
gration with the cheerlead-
ers, and much more.
This year the Coeur d’Alene High
School Student Council has chosen
the theme of “True To Viking Blue.”
The plan is to emphasize school pride
and unity. We are really excited
about this year’s opportunity to re-
turn the fish to its rightful home;
Coeur d’Alene High School!

A Big thank you to these local businesses for donations to the CHS Biomedical Science
class. Tim’s Special Cut Meats (sawn long bones) and Mountain View Custom Meats
(pig hearts) again provided some nice dissection materials. Hayden Pet Medical Cen-
ter (Dr. Kendall Bodkin) will again host a visit to observe surgery and medical care.
We also welcome visits from medical professionals to class.
