Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of Australia’s most successful Aboriginal performing arts companies,

fusing Aboriginal culture with contemporary dance. Bangarra is the Wiradjuri word meaning "to make

fire". The Bangarra Dancers visited Delroy Campus recently to take the Delroy students through various

dance routines. Following this, students were selected to participate in the Rekindling Youth Program.

Rekindling is an intensive

dance based program for

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait

Islander secondary students to

explore ‘who you are’ and

‘where you come from’. The

participants research and gather

stories with the help and

guidance from Elders within

their communities, to develop

dance, performance and creative

skills to produce dance theatre.

Congratulations to the

following students who have

been chosen for the Bangarra

Rekindle Dance Workshop:

Matt Morris, Mirrikie Shaw,

Wendall Coe-Kennedy,

Max Toomey, Jamarra Elemes,

Shanta Bower and Shai Cubby.

They are the names so far, with

more names of students to be

announced.

SRC Report

Delroy SRC is ready to get straight

into 2015 with motivation and

ambition. Only being three weeks in

is no excuse! We have already brain-

stormed some great ideas to make the

most of this year. Valentine’s Day has

been a Delroy tradition and has once

again presented an extraordinary

success.

We would also like to advertise that

the “Anti-Bullying Committee” is

currently searching for more people

that would like to contribute to the

group and help promote that bullying

should not be tolerated. If you are

interested, meetings are hosted in the

library on Tuesdays at recess.

Don’t forget that we are your student

voice and very approachable, so never

hesitate to forward your brilliant ideas

and concerns to us, so that Delroy can

be the best that it can be. We have a

great variety of events in store for

2015 and are looking forward to a

very busy and productive year. So

welcome back and bring 2015 on!

SCIENCE FACULTY…...

Science Assessment Tasks

The Science faculty has now fully implemented the National Curriculum and new NSW syllabus changes. All Delroy

students will be receiving a new notification for their first formal assessment task for 2015. These will be handed out in

Science classes but please contact the school for more information.

Year 9 Science classes have been learning about the layers of the Earth and the convection cycles that drive the

“Earth Machine” and create volcanoes and earthquakes. While examining fluid density, some Year 9 students managed to

produce the following density columns using only water, salt and three colours of food dye.

Do you know how they did it?

The Delroy College Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) meets on the third Monday

of each month, providing a regular open forum in which parents and local citizens can

discuss matters relevant to the education, social and financial welfare of the school and

Team, strive to maintain the highest standards for each and every child.

An invitation is extended to all parents and citizens to attend our next meeting which

will be held on the 16th March 2015 at 6.00pm at Club Dubbo. At this meeting you will have the option to become a

financial member, which will give you full voting rights at all meetings. Due to the rules of our constitution, several

members are stepping down from the executive positions which they have held for three consecutive years. Positions

that will be declared vacant and need to be filled are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
