Another colorful leoistic year has come to the end. It gives a great pleasure to me as the president of uom leos, send this massage to the best newsletter of leo multiple district 306. As always at the beginning of this leoistic year it was a big challenge for me to get the presidency of the most outstanding leo club of leo district 306A2. But with the past experience I got that challenge and I knew it will become too easy with true support of my club members. But as one family we got that chal-lenge and planned everything from begin-ning to end of our target. For that we made differences in our club and always tried to do various things than others. As university based club we have big manpower and also we have many people with great innovative ideas. So the full credits should go to all the awesome club members I had in my team. Also we had big opportunities from district and as well as the multiple to grow our skills.Finally as a result of our dedication at the end of leoistic year we became the “MOST OUTSTANDING LEO CLUB” of leo district 306A2 and also leo multiple district 306 with many awards. As a president I can be the proud-est one since what we gained during last leoistic year and I hope all people would have been enjoyed with our works.Finally I would like to invite you all to have a tour among the pages in this special year end edition of ‘IT’S US’ which will bring you who UoM Leos are.

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it needs determination, hard work, commitment and much more... So, it is the best time to look back The Way We Came. We, Leo club of university of Moratuwa were started with an idea of ‘WE SERVE’ on 2003. It was a new era of Leoistic history that starting a Leo club in a University. Leo Nadun Gunawardena who built the UOM Leo club in a new way was the president year 2003/04. It has grow through 2003/04 and 2004/05 with some disturbances. Year 2005/06 was a very important year for our club because we became the most outstand-ing club of Leo district 306 A2 for the first time. After that continuously, year 2006/07, year 2007/08, 2008/09 and year 2009/10 we were able to be the most outstanding club of our district. Not only that, in the year 2005/06, Most Outstanding Club President was Leo Tharanga Gunasekara who led Uom Leos to the victory. The Leo of the year 2006/07 was Leo Tharanga Gunasekara and in the Year 2008/09 it was Leo Isuru Senadheera.For the first time we were the most outstanding club of Sri Lanka mean while most outstand-ing club of Leo district 306 A2 on year 2011/12 with the leadership of Leo Naveen Lamahewa who was the president at that time.In 2012/13 also we became the most outstanding club of Leo district 306 A2 and Leo Chathuranga Gunasekara was awarded as Most Outstanding Club President in that year. In this leoistic year, year 2013/14 again we were the best with the leadership of LEO Ajith Rnaweera, being the most outstanding club of Leo district 306 A2 as well as the most outstanding club of Sri Lanka. Leo Kasun Geeganage was the Most Outstanding Club secre-tary in that year. It is a shortcoming if we do not mention about great leaders & members who inheritance from Uom Leos to the District 306A2. Leo Isuru Senadheera had the honor of becoming the first ever District President from Leo Club of University of Moratuwa in year 2012/13.It was a proud year for Leo Club of University of Moratuwa as it was the greatest achievement gained by any member of the club. WE, Leo club of University of Moratuwa, SERVED to the society, to the members and to the world and
WE will SERVE more than past.All of this has passed, but we can learn from them, because the legends are more powerful teachers who encourage us…

It is indeed an immense pleasure to provide a message to year end issue of “It’s Us” newsletter and it was a great honor to work as the Secretary of well reputed and awarded leo club during past leoistic year. Leoistic year 2013/2014 was a remarkable year for Leo club of University of Moratuwa as we were able to reach the apex in the end. We have conducted more than 100 projects in the past leoistic year 2013/2014 in different categories by serv-ing people who needed the support of society while enhancing our own talents. At the end of the year all the hard work and dedication was paid off by becom-ing ‘The Most Outstanding Leo Club’ of Sri Lanka and The Most Outstanding Leo Club’ of Leo District 306A2 for the third consecutive time. Uom Leos had provided a valuable opportunity to sharpen skills within Leos and carrying out the community service as well. I am grateful to all the Leos in Leo Club of University of Moratuwa for their undying commitment and ded-ication which helped me to become the Most Outstanding Club Secretary of Sri Lanka. Last but not least, I would like to mention that we were extremely touched to receive the support of all the Leos and Lions during Leoistic year 2013/14. We feel that this has brought us closer as one family and also look forward to strength-ening our bond in upcoming years as well.....

This was a big project held on 28th September 2013 with the objective of memorizing Leo Mahesh Abeywickrama, who was the president of the UoM Leo club in 2004/05 Leoistic year. The chief guest for the morning session was Leo district president for district 306A2 Leo Kaneel Maddumage. A popular media icon, Mr. Chandana Sooriyabandara was invited as the chief guest for the final session and the presentation ceremony.
After a huge battle of voices between the debaters of 12 schools, Panadura Sumangala College emerged as the winners of Mahesh Abeywickrama Championship. Many Leos and Lions participated for the event and it was ended up with a great success.

INTER SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION

UOM Leos chose Rajagiriya, “Victoria house for Incurables” to do this service day project and it was held on 6th April 2014. By cleaning the surroundings of the home and giving help in constructions leos were able to give the helping hand to needy people. It was a heart touching experience. After
the shramadana campaign clothes were distributed among disabled people. They were very happy to receive new clothes and UoM Leos were also very happy at the end of a successful project.
With the concept of “together we against cancer” the Leo club of university of Moratuwa has conducted a program for the patients of Maharagama hospital on 25th August 2013, to give specially pre-pared treatment, beverage made with medical grain, which helps to rebuild the dead cells of the body. This was a combined program with the Leo club of Ingiriya United and the program was awarded as the Most Outstanding Cancer Related Project of Sri Lanka. Though they were at the doorstep of their life, without hopes of lives, Leos were able to give them a smile to their faces and it was the gain of the day.
To strengthen the public relationship and maxi-mize publicity we decided to launch a Hi–tech web site to our club. Previously we had a web site but under the university domain. This time we designed a fully func-tioned web site, that is http://www.uomleos.org It has separate sections about the leoism, about the multiple District, District and our own club, What are projects we have done, what are projects we are hoping to do, achievements we got etc

I’m proud to say that it’s a great oppor-tunity to be a forerunner in a pioneer Leo club in Sri Lanka.We were armed by so many good qualities as being a member of Leo club. It helped us to improve our skills and talents and we helped others by using the skills that we were gained and also be with others when they were helped. We could have a chance to come up with various parties of the society and passed the limit of experiences we could gain in our age. We had an opportunity to hit the souls with so many performances in right way in the right time. Actually that was the reason I joined with the Leo club. They always encouraged us to do a better thing to the society. Even though I came as a junior to this club I was lucky to have the guidance of the seniors to organize the projects. Therefore I could blend my creativity with the projects and so that I could bring out valuable outcomes.The especial thing what I appreciate in UOM Leo club is that they always tend to do a useful thing to the society. The success we achieved through the performances was not a win actu-ally it was a blessing to us to do further more. The unity, team spirit, and the bond that prevail among each other were the secret of every successful project. UOM Leo club gives the message that university student is an over-all performer with a creative mind. There is no more value in the name “LEO”. We get its value by doing services. It gives us both pleasure and experiences.
To enhance the theoretical and most importantly the practical knowl-edge of the students on the electronic field, that would be highly valuable in the future, and motivate the students to make their future career in such a field. For the workshop, 15 schools from Galle and Matara districts were invited and 10 were participated out of them. The workshop was conduct-ed by some talented and experienced undergraduates from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication of university of Moratuwa. The proj-ect was held on 20th September 2013 from 8.00am to 4.30pm at IJSE Auditorium, Galle.

It is a great pleasure to issue this message on this occasion as the incoming president of the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa.
The Leo Club of University of Moratuwa is one of the best clubs in Leo district 306A2 and it is set of undergraduates from University of Moratuwa who are willing to give their volunteer support in various social service activities. Leadership, experience and opportuni-ties are only a few of the rewards we receive as Leos, apart from all the fun and enjoyment we have as a club. I hope everyone had enjoyed the last Leoistic year as much as I did and I was thrilled to see the contribution of our Leos in all our projects. I am proud to say that the last Leoistic year was a huge success where we won many awards in the annual award ceremony. My sincere gratitude to all the Leos and non-Leos who have helped us to become the most outstanding Leo club of District 306A2 for the third consecutive time and I would certainly highlight the significant accomplishment of our club, winning the “Most outstanding Leo club of Sri Lanka” award for the year 2013/2014. All these accomplishments would not have been possible if not for the commitment of all the members. Also I take this opportunity to thank our advisor Lion Meena Wellala For her enor-mous corporation to uplift our club. Further special thanks to Leo Isuru Senadheera and past UOM Leo leaders who have always lead us in the positive direction. Finally, I extend my heartiest thanks to all the Leos and non-Leos who have contribut-ed in numerous ways for the success of our club. The Leo Club of University of Moratuwa conducted the Shramadana campaign- “Senasunata Sawiyak” on 28th July 2013 from 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. at Doadanduwa Polgasduuwa Aaranya Senasanaya located in an island in Galle. The leos had pull out some weeds and lay the sand they carried from this shore, around the shrine room and hermit-ages of temple.

We never know what will come next. So we can’t get too comfortable with our lives .We always have to ready for a change. Sometimes this change may bring us happiness but sometimes pain. Though the pain is inevitable, the suffering is optional. It depends on the way we face and handle the pain. We can’t wait till storms pass our lives. We have to struggle and live against storms.Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison before he became the first democrati-cally elected president in South Africa. Abraham Lincoln failed in business, had a nervous breakdown, and was defeated number of times in elections before becoming president. All of them are extreme personalities. They faced so many hardships in their lives. Their path was full of obstacles. But they never gave up. they mustered up their courage, struggled against the hardships and achieved success in their lives. If the path you choose has no obstacles, then it probably doesn’t lead you to any-where. But if you need to achieve success and the best person who you want to be, then the path you choose is full of obstacles. All you need is the courage to struggle against obstacles.A ship in a harbour is safebut it is not what a ship is meant to be…So be the person who you meant to be,Many waves may pass against you…Many storm may urge you to quit.. But, Never give up, Learn how to surf….!

strengthens us in facing the future challenges of life, as we experienced the complexity of the society.
