BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONSBEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONS
This fortnight’s behaviour expectation is … to wear an APS hat.
DES REVIEW DES REVIEW
Aveley Primary School was involved in the Department of Education Services (DES) review of Independent Public Schools (IPS) last term. The purpose of this review is to provide assurance to the principal and school community, the board and the Director General of the Department of Education of the extent to which the school staff and board have met the commitments of the Delivery and Performance Agreement (DPA). The review verifies the degree to which there are effective processes in place bringing about
improved student learning.
The review was positive for our school. We were provided with feedback on areas of strength and areas that require some improvement. These will inform our next 2018 – 2020 Business Plan. A copy of the full report is available on the APS web
site or through the front office.
APS OPEN NIGHTAPS OPEN NIGHT
This year’s APS Open Night will be held on Wednesday, 1 November from 5 to 7pm. The themes for last two years were around sport and our Multicultural school. The theme for 2017 is ICT and sustainability. This evening will promote the high level of engagement of
our students in these two areas. We look forward to seeing families on the night.
CYBER WORKSHOPCYBER WORKSHOP
As families would be aware, children are avid social media users. It is reported that 45% of eight to eleven year olds regularly use social networking sites. Being active on social
networking sites means increased risk of personal information being made public.
To support parents and carers to assist their children in safely navigating the online world, Aveley Primary School will be hosting a parent workshop. See the attached flier for more
information.

2018 STUDENT LEADERS2018 STUDENT LEADERS
Being a Student Leader at school provides our senior students with the opportunity to build and refine their leadership skills. These students also play an important role in supporting our school. The selection of our 2018 School Captains, Student Councillors and House Captains will be taking place this term. To provide an opportunity for training, these positions will be announced before the end of this term. Students currently in Year 5 will receive more information through their classroom
teachers.
If you have a child in Year 5, I would encourage you to have a conversation with them around leadership and associated
responsibilities. Your discussion could include the characteristics of an effective leader, including:
Responsibility
Integrity
Persistence
Creativity
Organisation
Emotional Awareness (of self and others)
Openness (to new ideas and alternative points of view)
YEAR 6 CAMPYEAR 6 CAMP
Our Year 6 students have enjoyed this week on camp at Fairbridge Village, located on the South West Highway Pinjarra. They have enjoyed some mild weather while participating in a range of team building activities with their peers. Feedback from staff has been very positive. I’m sure students will have many stories to tell after they have caught up on some sleep this weekend. We would like to thank the Year 6 parents for providing an opportunity for their children to attend this memorable experience. Thank you also to Mrs Williamson, Mrs Watson, Mr Harvie, Mr Del Nero, Mr Anderson and Mr Tullio for supporting our students
at camp this week.
Families should consider that school camps always prove to be a lifetime memory. If you think your child may be hesitant in attending camp in the next couple of years, I encourage you to begin talking about it in a positive way with
them.

CULTURAL WONDERS OF BALICULTURAL WONDERS OF BALI
“Experience The Cultural Wonders of Bali’ was the theme of our cultural show on Saturday, 16 September 2017 in the Performing Arts Centre at Ellenbrook Secondary College. Aveley Primary School was very lucky to work collaboratively with Eling Nusantara Foundation from Bali and Ms Rose Ngatikao of Indonesian
Dance Studio Perth in presenting this awesome event.
Our students Nikola Crnkovich and Kaitlyn Radaich were the presenters who did an outstanding job for the night. The ushers were Kate Paterson and Ava Spencer who also did a brilliant job. The show was very well received by the local community and we had a sell out audience. We were also fortunate to have the Honourable Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Ade Padmo
Sarwono and his wife to grace the occasion.
The performances were outstanding and the costumes were incredibly stunning. The audience were treated to gamelan and a profusion of Balinese dance and culture right smack in Perth! A big thank you to Pancer Langiit Dance troupe and
Indonesian Dance Studio Perth. We certainly hope to be able to bring more cultural events like this in future.
Ibu Yang
(Language Specialist - Indonesian)
Welcome back and we hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for the excitement coming in term 4.
Thank you to everyone who sent in the Earn and Learn stickers and sheets. Our school and community collected well over
40000 stickers! We will keep you updated on the arrival of the equipment we have earned when they arrive at school.
There are only two weeks left to get the Entertainment Books! You can order books on-line or obtain an order form from the
office.
The sports carnival is nearly here. Hopefully your child brought home the sausage sizzle order form this week. Orders are to
be placed in the P&C box which is located on the outside of the administration block, or order online with flexi schools.
Please make sure your child’s House is marked as they will be delivered to each House bay and not their classroom. This
year the P &C will be holding a cake stall on the oval and donations would be gratefully received either on the Thursday or
Friday morning.
Next week the Halloween disco ticket order forms shall be sent home with tickets also available to be purchased through
Flexi schools. The disco will be held on Friday, 3 November with two sessions Kindy – Year 2 from 4.30-5.45pm and Year 3-6
from 6.00-7.30pm. Dress up as your favorite spooky Halloween character. Lolly bags, juice boxes and water will be on sale
throughout the night, and ice creams will be on sale at the end of each disco.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Monday, 20 November in the staff room. Please come and support the P&C. It’s only
$1 to join and is a wonderful opportunity to have your say and hear about different activities and projects around the school.
Thank you
