AQLAAM (05 colt by Oasis Dream ex Bourbonella) showed high class potential when winning the G3 Jersey Stakes by an easy two lengths at Ascot last year. This attractive son of Oasis Dream was not seen out again for the remainder of the 2008 season, however he returned with a vengeance and was second to PACO BOY in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes and subse-quently went on to score in the G2 Summer Mile Stakes also at Ascot in July. With this victory in hand and the ground com-ing up just right, AQLAAM next took on super filly GOLDIKOVA in the G1 Prix Jaques le Marois where he finished a creditable second with his nearest pursuer five lengths back in third. His G1 success came in the G1 Prix du Moulin at Long-champ in August where he won with a lot in hand. He is by super sire OASIS DREAM, who has had a fantastic season in 2009 with stakes winners including ARCANO; MIDDAY; MAIN AIM; MONITOR CLOSELY; SHOWCASING etc. It has now been announced that AQLAAM will be retired to Shadwell Stud in England for the 2010 season.

ARCANO (07 colt by Oasis Dream ex Tariysha) has won all three of his starts to date and is now one of the winter favourites for the 2000 Guineas in 2010. He won his maiden in June when beating another smart son of in form sire Oasis Dream, SHOWCASING, who subsequently went on to score at G2 level winning the Gimcrack at York. ARCANO immediately stepped up in class to win the G2 July Stakes. His next target was the G1 Prix Morny, in which he beat the smart filly SPECIAL DUTY. She enhanced his form considerably when she went on to win herself at G1 level by taking the G1 Chevely Park Stakes and is now winter favourite for the 1000 Guineas. He will not race again this year and will be aimed at the 2000 Guineas in 2010. Shadwell Racing recently purchased ARCANO’s Medicean half brother for 450,000gns at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.

Group 1 success for AQLAAM & ARCANO

Continued from p.1

ELNADIM…….. Following on from Group 1 winner CULMINATE earlier in the year,

ELNADIM’S strike rate continued with ELBLITZEM and SANTO PADRE. His

son ELBLITZEM won the G3 Metric Mile in New Zealand and on the same afternoon

SANTO PADRE was a comfortable winner of the Portland Handicap at Doncaster’s St Leger Meeting. SANTO PADRE is a half-brother to multiple Group winner and sire

MAJESTIC MISSLE.

……..MARJU Following on from VIVA PATACA’s

G1 success earlier in the year, MARJU’s son CHINCHON (pictured left) went on to capture the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte in September when eased down to win by three parts of a length. Other

2009 stakes winners include ENROLLER and REMARQUE who both won at G3 level this year, while

ASSET & SPIRIT OF SPORT also won at Listed level.

ALHAARTH continued his fantastic season, as only eight days after his G1 winner AZWAAN took the Middle Park Stakes, another two year old son, MORANA went on to win the G3 Autumn Stakes at Ascot. He settled in mid-division and made his challenge in the final strides to win by a head. His dam BLUSHING BARADA is a full-sister to the Stakes placed IN MY FOOTSTEPS and a half-sister to the triple Group 1 winner and sire AUTHAAL. Other noted runners by ALHAARTH is the consistent MOURAYAN. He has won or been placed in no less than six stakes races in his career. In his 2-y-o career he was only beaten a half length by wonder horse SEA THE STARS and progressed in 2009 to win at Listed level and was also placed in the G1 Irish Derby. VOICE COACH was only beaten a short head in the G3 Kingston Town Stakes at Rosehill in October, while BOBBYSCOT was second in the Listed Hurricane Stakes, only beaten half a length to subsequent G2 placed VISCOUNT NELSON. ALSHABAA, a very impressive maiden winner in May and went on to finish second in the G3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown while FAMOUS WARRIOR who has won twice already this year, was second in the Listed Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk in October.

What a fantastic year for Shadwell Racing!! Following on from dual Group 1 winner GHANAATI earlier in the season, Shadwell’s AWZAAN, AQLAAM and ARCANO have now all won at Group 1 level also. GHANAATI has now been retired and will be a most valuable asset to the Shadwell broodmare band. MAWATHEEQ (Danzig) comfortably landed the G3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot. He is certainly making a name for himself and was most recently only beaten half a length in the G1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket. He is most likely to be put away for the year and we will look forward to seeing him run in 2010. He is a half brother to dual G1 winner GHANAATI and hails from the illustrious family of HEIGHT OF FASHION, NASHWAN, UNFUWAIN, NAYEF etc. AK-MAL (Selkirk) won his last four outings to date including the G3 Jockey Cup & Listed Noel Murless Stakes, with Shad-well having the first two home in both these events with NEHAAM (Nayef) in second. OUQBA (Red Ransom) was unlucky not to take the G2 Challenge Stakes when only beaten a neck on Champion Stakes day at Newmarket.

ONES TO WATCH - TABASSUM impressive winner of the G3 Oh So Sharp Stakes, quickened well in the closing stages to win by an easy four lengths and was subsequently placed a close third in the G2 Rockfel Stakes. This homebred 2-y-o daughter of Shadwell based stallion NAYEF is the first foal out of the Danzig mare TOMOOHAT, who comes from the family of multiple Group winner and Group 1 placed MUBTAKER. TOMOOHAT has a yearling colt by MARJU and will visit Nayef again in 2010. HAFAWA, homebred 2-y-o by INTIKHAB, won impressively on her last start when powering home

under Richard Hills to win by four lengths at Leicester in October. She has now won twice from three starts for trainer Mark Johnston. On the same day to complete a double for Shadwell Racing, the useful MUFARRH by MARJU won his maiden stakes also by four lengths. His trainer John Dunlop obviously thinks a lot of this colt as he holds entries in the 2000 Guineas and Derby in 2010. MULTAMES (Cape Cross) won his second start of the season by four lengths and is held in high regard as he also holds a Derby entry. TAMAATHUL (Tiger Hill) won impressively on his second start to date when narrowly beaten by G1 Racing Post Trophy fourth Dancing Dave on his debut. Other noted Shadwell runners in 2009 include FINJAAN (Royal Applause) who won the G2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood in July, while RACINGER (Spectrum) took the G3 Prix Quincey at Deauville winning his fourth Group race to date. GHANAATI (Giant’s Causeway) was placed in the G1 Sussux Stakes and G1 Sun Chariot Stakes, while ALWAARY (Dynaformer) and MUDAARAAH (Cape Cross) scored at Listed level and both were also subsequently placed at Group level. Other stakes placed runners include TAAJUB (Exceed and Excel), who was second in the Weatherbys £300,000 2-y-o Sprint beating subsequent Goffs Million winner Lucky General. He was also second in the G2 Gimcrack and was placed in the G3 Cornwallis Stakes. TAYSEER was placed at G3 and Listed level while BALAAGHA (Mr Greeley) was also placed at Listed level.

…..and the WINNER is….. Congratulations to Gary Carroll who won the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Series 2009 which concluded at Leopardstown Racecourse on Monday 26th October. Throughout the series, Gary slowly made his way to the top of the table and finished by riding five winners overall. Shane Foley was unfortunate to have been suspended for the last three apprentices series races, which left Gary in a comfortable position without any fear of being caught. Racing is obviously in the blood as Gary’s father is ex-jockey Ray Carroll. Ray rode Gonzales to win an Irish St Leger for the legendary Vincent O’Brien, and also rode for trainers John Oxx and Dermot Weld throughout his career. His grandfather Frankie Carroll was a top National Hunt jockey in the 60/70’s, while Gary’s mother Sally is the Student Liaison Officer for the Irish National Stud Course at the Irish National Stud in Kildare. Gary has had a fantastic season in 2009 riding on both sides of the Irish sea and looks sure to take the overall leading apprentice title in Ireland also. His biggest career win to date was when Willie Mullins used Gary’s experience and 5lb claim to snatch the valuable Ebor Handicap on board Sesenta at York

in August. It was a family affair for the Carroll brothers when Willie again used Gary in the Irish Ce-sarewitch winning on Dani Califor-nia beating his younger brother Tim Carroll riding Silverhand for Noel Meade by 3/4 of a length into second place.

We wish Gary every success in his

future career which certainly looks to be a very promising one.
