Describing the
Setting
AGENDA Talk about how to use our 5 Senses to
describe the setting of a story or place.
Introduce the SETTING TREE MAP
Read aloud: Clean Your Room, Harvey Moon!
Tonights Homework Assignment
To be
TERRIFIC, youve got to be
SPECIFIC!
To be SPECIFIC, use your 5 senses to help you describe!
What does it LOOK like?
What does it SOUND like?
What does it FEEL like?
What does it SMELL like?
What does it TASTE like?
What if you were taking a
morning hike in the forest?
I spotted an
ancient, massive
redwood tree.
I caught sight of
a sleek red fox
digging a
burrow.
I heard the loud
cry of a red-
tailed hawk.
I listened peacefully
to a babbling brook.
I could feel a gentle
breeze blowing
across my cheek.
I poked at the
squishy moss along
the rocky trail.
I could smell
the crisp pine
mountain air.
I sniffed the sweet
aroma of a pink
foxglove flower.
I sipped cold, crisp,
refreshing water
from a mountain
stream.
I unwisely
devoured handful
of poisonous
berries!
