WHAT IS A LOGO?• A logo is a symbol or image used to

represent something, e.g. a band or fashion designer

• Logos usually have a relation with the product, company, or organization, though this is just a general guideline

• Logos give something an identity; it is the first thing we think of, and gives the thing a form of unity or solidity

WHAT MAKES AN EFFECTIVE LOGO?

• Using a memorable image, usually relating to the product, company, band, etc.

• Should be aesthetically pleasing

• Not too elaborate in design, although there can be exceptions, it is better to go with a simplistic/minimalist design

• Flexible enough to place on business cards, t-shirts, posters, key rings, etc.

• May include the name, but can be represented through an image

HOW TO MAKE AN EFFECTIVE LOGO

• Logos are not ‘good’ and ‘bad’; they are ‘effective’ and ‘ineffective’

• Logos are all about memorability. Why waste time, effort, and money on a symbol no one will remember?

• Logos should be easy to picture. This is why elaborate designs can sometimes be tricky to produce.

• Brainstorm things that may relate to your product, company, organization, etc. to help produce interesting images.

• Try to make it relevant. You would not use a flaming skull for a charity to children in poverty. Why is this? What would be an appropriate logo?

• It is advised that you hire someone who can help, or produce an effective logo, if one is unable to produce an effective one.

Example of a bad logo; why is this

a bad logo?

CONCLUSION

• Logos are memorable images used to represent a group, product, etc.

• They can be simplistic or elaborate, but it is advised to have some connotation to the group, product, etc.

• Logos which are flexible are easier to distribute to the public, e.g. business cards, shoes, key rings, clothing

• If you wish to make a professional logo and do not have the ability to produce a logo, it is wise to seek professional help
