A few years ago, I worked with an aerospace supplier that had thousands of different active products, with widely varying work content, but an average order quantity of only 10 to 20 pieces.

Designing this type of production line required overcoming a huge number of challenges. In this report, I examine those challenges – as well as several often overlooked opportunities -- presented to industrial engineers working in high-mix low-volume manufacturing environments.

In a recent poll of consulting clients, most Lean manufacturing questions I received had to do with high-mix low-volume manufacturing. And it’s not surprising because high-mix low-volume is becoming more and more common, especially since a lot of repetitive manufacturing has gone overseas.

What we have left is: high customization, high mix, and a lot of models.

The other thing that has happened is that over time companies keep developing new products, but don’t get rid of the old ones. In this free report, I cover issues like changeovers to help you deal with an ever-growing catalogue of products.

Each Thursday from December 8 - January 26, I will be leading a FREE high-mix

low-volume training series for students registered in the Mixed Model Line Design

Online Course by December 2, 2016.

Find out more:

Mixed Model Line Design Online Course

This training series will examine exactly how Lean techniques can enhance your

high-mix low-volume production environment, resulting in shorter lead times,

higher quality, less necessary floor space, and a host of other benefits.
