Key Trends
1 Emerging online retailing
Retailers have been partnering with leading e-commerce sites
despite having their own independent online ventures. Due to
high rentals, real estate prices and complex regulations, a
number of international brands are also entering the Indian
market through internet retailing.
2 Entry of Foreign Players
Apparel giants such as Armani Exchange, Muji, Innamorata,
North Face, Massimo Dutti, Cath Kidston, etc. entered the
domestic market in 2017. Swedish brand H&M and American
brand Gap entered earlier in 2015. In the same year, US apparel
brand Aéropostale entered the Indian market and has tied up
with Arvind Lifestyle, a major player in the Indian market.
3 Retail footprint expansion
Tier 2 and tier 3 cities are expected to register the highest
growth in income levels and consumer expenditure over the next
15 years. Moreover, all of these cities have a strong consumer
base with good infrastructure in place and lower rentals in
comparison to metro cities, making them attractive for fashion
and lifestyle players to expand.
4
Investments to increase manufacturing capacity
With ever–increasing exports, and ever growing demand for
apparel in India, players are investing in increasing their
manufacturing capacities.
5
Existence of centres of excellence in Dehradun
Dehradun is known as a educational hub with a number of
prominent educational institutions attracting students not only
from other states of India but from many other countries also.
This indicates that the state is likely to attract students fro
NIFT from various regions
