Difference between Deaf and mute
Deaf and mute is a widely spread inaccurate term even among well
educated communities, but actually there is a huge difference
between deaf and mute, deaf is the person who suffers from
hearing loss; Muteness is an inability to speak, often caused by a
speech disorder
Deaf: Person who was born with little to no hearing in one or both
ears or developed hearing loss in early childhood which
affects the ability to learn spoken language
Hearing Impaired: Person who was born hearing, and learned the
spoken language and then developed hearing loss (Chronic or
temporary) or born with moderate hearing loss
Mute: Person who was born having problems with the parts of the
human body required for human speech (the esophagus,
vocal cords, lungs, mouth, or tongue, etc.) or had an accident.
The term "deaf and mute" is an inaccurate term and according to recent scientific research the more precise term is “Deaf and Hearing Impaired”
