Little Mix

I couldn’t find Little Mix’s digipak so have got their album cover to analyse

The use of black and white with aspects of colour look very effective and is something that we could take into consideration. This also makes the band name stand out more

Lots of bright coloured backgrounds to make it stand out and appeal to 10-15 year olds

This second album they produced is much more sophisticated with their more serious poses, positioning and colour

They are shown to be more individuals due to the split screens. The images would have been taken separately and this is something that as a group we could use

This is their first album and could be seen to be targeted towards a lower age as it is not as sophisticated as other POP album covers. Their body language shows they are a new group as they are holding hands and smiling

Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s digipak suits the conventions of a POP genre music video as it is very colourful, exciting pictures and patterns.

Colourful writing

Provocative pictures however are still suitable for target audience age, plus these kind of pictures will expand her target audience to boys/men as well

Colourful, exciting images on CD itself with bright colours

The images look like they ware fun to produce as she looks as if she is on clouds or candyfloss

The CD and inside cover has sweets and cake on which is appealing to the target audience

The producer of this digipak has thought about the spine down the sides and have put writing on there which i think is a good idea and we could use in ours

Barcode on the back of the digipak

Name of each song on the back so the audience know what songs they are buying

Rhianna

This is one of Rhianna’s digipaks, it is very sophisticated and may be targeted towards a older audience, this has a different feel

and effect to albums such as Little Mix and Katy Perry. This may be because her songs are slightly slower.

The images are quite provocative with the facial expression and close ups which also show that this album may have a older audience

The darker colours show that the album may have slower songs

The roses on the inside of digipak show that the songs may be love songs

The holes for the CD are taken into consideration here and this is what we will do for our digipak

Girls Aloud

This digipak is much more grown up than our target audience as it has very simple colours and a lot of writing

Girls Aloud’s album is similar to Rhianna’s as it is much more plain and for an older audience

The only colour is of the girls outfits. This is similar to Little Mix’s first album which i quite like and find interesting as they stand out a lot more.

I like how the writing is in the shape of a CD however i think it may be a little boring for our audience as they would not want to read a lot of information

It also does not show anything down the spine of the CD. Where as on Katy Perry’s there is writing which i would prefer to do

What i can take from the digipaks i have researched into…

• Bright colours• Writing on spine• Colourful CDs• Exciting images• Barcode on back• List of songs• Split screen with individual backgrounds• Black and white with some colour• Smiling? Serious?• Writing/picture in CD place• Not much writing? Loads of writing?• One image taking up the whole space of the inside

From researching into the POP genre digipaks i have found out that they vary a lot from bright colours and patterns such as Little Mix and Katy Perry to very plain, simple albums such as Rhianna and Girls Aloud. From this I have decided that as a group it would be better to go for the bright colours because it will be more suited for our target audience.
