5v/3v JumperA jumper on the Common Interface is used to set the correct voltage for 5v or 3vCondictional Access Modules.

The position of the jumper is labeled on the printed circuit board. Factory default is 5v,because most Conditional Access Modules need a power supply of 5v. Please check thetechnical specification of the Conditional Access Module that you are using for the correctdata.

To install the CAM and Smartcard into the Common Interface connector, please followthese simple steps:

1) Shut down the computer and turn off2) Insert the Smartcard into the CAM3) Insert the CAM into the Common Interface connector4) Ensure that the jumper (5v/3v) is set correctly for your CAM (As above)5) Turn the computer on and launch the TV application

Recording & Time Shift

NOTE: Please refer to the Reg-Fixes folder on CD to enable Timeshift & Playback

These controls allow you to record radio and TV programs onto your hard disk. Byclicking the Folder symbol you can choose a directory to save the file(s). The coloredcrossbar shows the hard drive space already recorded (red) and the free space left(green).

Start recording by clicking the Record button and stop it by clicking again. A redflashing button indicates recording in progress. You must not change the channelwhile recording, stop the process first.

The TIME_SHIFT button starts the time shift mode, allowing you to record a runningtelecast and begin playback while the same recording is still going on.

Click the Playback button to play video files previously recorded. To playback audio-only files, please run a third-party MPEG-decoding software (e. g.InterVideo WinDVD).

Note: Audio and video streams are written in the MPEG2 format onto your hard disk. The recording process performing a transfer rate of up to several Mbit/s requires fast, capacious disk drives. For example, recording a one minute video stream at itstypical data rate (4 Mbit/s) requires 30 MBytes of free space, or for one hour of videoeven 1.8 GBytes.

Tips on Capturing

Note that the video and audio streams are stored in MPEG-2 format on your harddrive. The recording process will require a transfer rate of up to several MBit/s. Forexample; you may need 30 Mbytes free for the recording of a video stream of 4MBit/s, for approximately one-minute. Extrapolating this figure means that you willneed 1.8GB for 1 hour of video.A recently defragmented hard drive is recommended for capturing longer sequencesof video.

The capturing performance may be improved by changing a Windows setting called'Read-ahead optimisation' to 'None'. This setting can be found under Control Panel /System / Performance / File System. It is also recommended to close down any other applications before you startcapturing.

Page 18: Digital Video Broadcasting

WinTV-NOVA CI-T PCI · Installation and Reference Manual · Page 18

In order to ensure maximal record file quality, please consider the recommendationsgiven below:

• Capture audio/video data onto a hard drive of its own (or its own partition at least).• Increase the access time of your hard drive(s) by defragmenting it (them) prior tocapturing long sequences.• Close down any other applications before you start recording.• Terminate services operating in the background, as screen saver, virus scanner, etc.• Disable the Auto insert notification of your CD-ROM drive.• If necessary, reduce screen's pixel solution, e. g. from 1024 x 768 down to 800 x600.• Turn off the printer.• Disable the network card (if installed).

Playback

With this program you can playback the recorded MPEG-files (Please refer to applicationhelp files).

Troubleshooting:

Many errors are caused by the incorrect installation of the WinTV NOVA CI-T driver. Wemust first check the device manager to see if the driver has been installed correctly(Win98/ME):

Open the device manager (start / settings / control panel / system / device manager).

The Hauppauge WinTV NOVA CI-T must be entered once in the "Network adapterscategory. If the entry is missing, please read the following paragraph: " the HauppaugeWinTV NOVA CI-T driver is not installed in the device manager ".

Problem: the TV window remains light-grey or Error message: " main windowcould not be set. Video in own window tries to play. "

This error message appears, if the MPEG-2 software decoder is not installed or is notcorrectly installed. You may also get this message if the Direct Draw acceleration of theVGA card is not activated. Under Windows NT 4,0 this message will always appear, since Live TV is not supported here.

Install the software of the WinTV-NOVA CI-T installation CD ROM again (Setup.exe).

The WinTV-NOVA CI-T needs a VGA card with hardware overlay operation. For thefollowing example (the older) graphics cards are not suitable: S3 Trio 64, Matrox MilleniumI, Matrox Productiva G100. The following are compatible: S3 Trio 64V, Matrox MilleniumG200 / G400, Nvidia GeForce 256

The Hardware acceleration of the graphics card should be set to 100% Full. You cancheck by going to start \ control panel \ system \ properties \ performance \ graphics andyou should set the hardware acceleration to Full.

Run the program dxdiag on (start / run / dxdiag). Select the menu option " display " andmake sure that the option Direct Draw acceleration is enabled.

Problem: No channels found or PSI tables do not become highlighted

This is normally caused by weak signal strength or by your aerial not being able to receivea Digital Terrestrial signal. You may want to try a signal booster, a high gain aerial oralternatively contact your local aerial installer. (To locate an installer near you in the UnitedKingdom look up http://www.tv-installers.com/index2.html ).

This may also be cause by any Firewall or Network protection software that you may haveinstalled on your system. Because the card uses a Static IP address this must be added toa secure zone with in networking protection software.

Page 20: Digital Video Broadcasting

WinTV-NOVA CI-T PCI · Installation and Reference Manual · Page 20

Problem: the Hauppauge WinTV NOVA CI-T driver is not installed in the devicemanager

If you do not answer all of the questions correctly when installing the WinTV NOVA CI-Tcard and restart the computer following the installation of the WinTV NOVA driver, theWinTV NOVA CI-T driver is not merged correctly into the system. In this situation thedevice is possibly entered under other / unknown devices in the device manager. Thatcan also occur if you re-install Windows with the WinTV NOVA CI-T card inserted in a PCIslot. Highlight the entry PCI Multimedia DEVICE and click on remove and acknowledgewith OK. If you then click on the “Refresh“ button Windows then detects a Plug & PlayWinTV-NOVA card. Now if you insert the WinTV NOVA CI-T CD, the WinTV NOVA CI-Tdrivers will be installed. After the installation of the driver the entry in the Networkingsection in Device Manager " Hauppauge Virtual DVB adapter " must be present.

If you do need to re-install the software then please use the program DVBClear.exewhich can be found on the installation CD ROM in the folder UTILS to remove all ofthe software first.
