We are very thankful for the letter from

Rev. Samuel Yrjola that enlightened our eyes to the fact

that the Speakers for the Manifest Glory Program held from 19th to 21st June

2014 were those that promoted the Toronto Blessing 1994.

It would benefit the Church at large, if Sri Lankan Church Leaders are careful

in selecting the Speakers for Conferences they host. Pastor Josiah Philip - Jaffna

A worthy Direction I was pleased the message The Prosperity Gospel vs.

Taking Up your Cross appeared in your July volume of the Direction magazine.

Evidently today messages in Christianity is seen largely moving away from the

true Bible teaching with much influence from the western world as well. Trials,

Suffering and Hell Bible talks much about is hardly voiced from pulpits. At a time

articles of this nature dont find a slot in Christian journals let this article be an

eye opener. Praise be to God. Nihal Uduwara - Colombo

Thank you for sending me the latest issue of Direction magazine. It is truly

a high quality magazine. So many excellent articles and news. Keep up the good

    work. Peter Solomon - Australia

MY PERSONAL NOTE TO PASTOR AJITH PERERA I was taken by

surprise to see a personal note which looks like a personal attack against me in the

Direction Magazine to which I have subscribed from time to time. This attack is

uncalled for since Pastor Ajith Perera does not even know me personally.

Double exclamation marks is my style of writing although it seems to concern

Pastor Ajith. I have been very careful to not make any damaging statements about

another person while writing, whether it is in a spiritual or secular publication.

About praying for Sri Lanka to win the World Cup it is my humble

contribution to a great National Cricket Team for which I have the utmost respect.

It looks like pastor Ajith, been a man who is Holier than myself, must be praying for

weightier matters of the nation and of the church I wonder. Anyway, each to his

own call according to his own ability.

So as my Lord commanded us to walk in LOVE, I choose to forgive Pastor Ajith

for this uncalled for personal attack. May GOD bless you brother. Ken De joodt

    Walk tall, my son,

In a bent and crooked world

    Where truth lies hidden behind

    Walls of Power.

    Walk tall, my son,

    When all you see around

Are people strutting up and down

    So arrogant and so proud.

When you feel rejected and so afraid

    Remember, son,

They've got feet of clay !

    Walk tall, my son,

With humble heart and head held high,

And soften your very being to hear the sigh

    Of those oppressed and weak.

Remember son, to speak a word of comfort

    To lend a helping hand.

I have taught you, my son, to wait upon God

When the world all around goes mad.

For such men of valour, the Lord doth seek

    So ...................Walk tall, my son.

METHODIST CHURCH SRI LANKA BICENTENARY NATIONAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE

The Methodist Church Sri Lanka celebrated its bicentenary on 29 June 2014. The National

Thanksgiving Service was held at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour on 29 June 2014

at 3.00 pm. Nearly 10,000 Methodist members from all over Sri Lanka attended the service.

During 2014 the bicentenary committee, along with many of other subcommittees, worked

hard to organise this very special bicentenary service in the history and life of the

Methodist Church. The British missionaries, when they commenced on their journey, did

not think that their lives were of any moment, but now they are of course, and celebrations

and contributions are the history we will leave for future generations.

NCEASL has introduced Outbound Team Building at

Sanctuary House as another service to the national

Church, the schools as well as organisations and

companies. Outbound team building is an innovative

way of educating people in team dynamics. This

helps participants to learn biblical and ethical life-

values such as integrity, humility, patience, and

perseverance in addition to valuable life-skills needed

to live and thrive in the midst of the modern society.

Using an enjoyable mix of outdoor activities, team

challenges and games, the participants learn the

essential ingredients of a team; communication,

problem solving, decision making, cooperation and

team leadership. It is also an effective way of

equipping Christians to be effective witnesses in their

    homes, schools, neighborhoods and offices.

Sanctuary House has the perfect site for outbound

programmes, with a large playing field and tree cover

bordering the Negombo lagoon which provides the

    On 24th June 2014, a delegation from

    the World Evangelical Alliance

    including its Secretary General, Geoff

Tunnicliffe, met with His Holiness Pope

Francis at the Vatican. The historic

meeting was an opportunity to form

    ties of friendship, while discussing

issues of mutual interest ranging from

the nature of the Gospel and Christian

Unity to issues in relation to religious

    persecution. The World Evangelical

Chhattisgarh, July 5, 2014: Villagers of

by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had led

to a ban on the entry of and

    propaganda by non-Hindu

    missionaries, especially Christians, in

more than 50 villages of Chhattisgarhs

    Aizawl, July 08, 2014: Presbyterian

    parishes across Mizoram held prayers

Sunday night in their effort to stop the

    state government from introducing a

law relaxing the total prohibition of

    alcohol. The powerful Mizoram Synod

of the Presbyterian Church of India,

which has been opposing the state

    government, organized the mass

    prayer, Business-Standard reported.

India, July 07, 2014: The Dalai Lama

Sunday reiterated his plea to Buddhists

in Myanmar and Sri Lanka to halt

violence against Muslims, in a speech

to tens of thousands of devotees to

mark his 79th birthday. In front of the

    massive crowd that included

Hollywood film star Richard Gere in

Indonesia, July 07, 2014: Indonesia is at

a historic crossroads: the result of the

    presidential elections on 9 July

    coupled with Mays parliamentary

    elections could strengthen the

    countrys young democracy, marking its

full maturity. This also applies to the

    JAPANJapan is currently approaching an

existential crisis that it must resolve if it

is going to survive. The most simple

way to describe it is that decades of

    low birth-rates and falling marriage

    rates combined with ever increasing

life-spans has created a top heavy

society with roughly a third of Japanese

over the age of 60 and only 28% under

the age of 30. This problem is actually

    compounded in the Japanese church

    where Masakazu Sukuki of CRASH

Japan writes, based on 2012 data, out

of the average sized church in Japan

with 35 attending worship on Sunday,

18 are over the age of 60 and only 2

are under the age of 30. This means

that the church has 20% more elderly

than the national average and 20% less

    of the younger generation.
