CONCLUSIONS•There are changes in horizontal and vertical distribution of plankton due the high organic material in the dam.
•The presence of eutrophication indicator species such as Ochromonas ostreaeformis, Microcystis aeruginosa, Poliarthra vulgaris and Keratella cochlearis are typical of these alterado environment.
•It is necessary to develop water treatment practice in the upper zones of the basin in order to decrease the organic matter that income in the dam.
