"A friend of ours was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset.
As he walked along, he began to see another man in the distance. As he grew
nearer, he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up
and throwing it out into the water. Time and again, he kept hurling things out into
the ocean. As our friend approached even closer, he noticed that the man was
picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time, he
was throwing them back into the water. Our friend was puzzled. He approached
the man and said "Good evening, friend. I was wondering what you are doing." "I'm throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right
now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw
them back into the sea, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen." "I understand," my friend replied, "but there must be thousands of starfish on
this beach. You can't possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. And
don't you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and
down this coast ? Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?" The local native smiled, bent down and pick up yet another starfish, and as
he threw it back into the sea, he replied, "Made a difference to that one!"
-Chicken Soup for the Soul
Key Clubbers, you only have 6 months till the school year is up. For some of
you, that‟s six months till high school and Key Club is over. For officers you have two
months before you have to choose new people to lead your club. Make the best
of your last months in key club. There are so many service opportunities out there
and they are just waiting for you to find it, and change the world. Use your winter
break to help out with toy drives, sing to the elderly, or just simply buy the coffee for
the person waiting behind you at Starbucks, Just remember, the smallest act of
service will ALWAYS make a difference. I am very proud of each and every one of
the Division 12 Key Clubbers. Y‟all have truly made my years as a Lieutenant
Governor wonderful. Lets end this year with a BANG!
Merry Christmas Key Clubbers! Have a safe Holiday!

School
Project Ideas! Appreciating Teachers
For each holiday, find new ways to show
teachers they are appreciated. On
Thanksgiving Day, give candy; for Christmas,
give ornaments; and at the end of the
school year, treat the teachers to an ice
cream social. Give teachers birthday cards
on their birthdays too.
Big Brother/Big Sister Program
Organize basketball tournaments (and other
sports tourneys) for youngsters who are on
the waiting list for the local Big Brother/Big
Sister Program. Offer to serve as Big Brothers
or Sisters for the day.
Christmas tree Decoration
Offer to decorate your city‟s Christmas tree.
The city will supply the decorations; you only
have to supply the volunteers.
Flowers
Bring flowers to a nursing home to brighten
the atmosphere.
Free Gift Wrapping
Around the holiday season, set up a booth in
a mall and wrap presents for free. Promote
your club‟s name so patrons know who is
providing the service.
Kiwanis-Family Month
The Kiwanis-family includes K-Kids, Builders
Club, Key Club, Circle K, action Club, Kiwanis
Junior, and Kiwanis clubs. November is a
great opportunity to learn more about how
the other
Kiwanis sponsored clubs function, and what
their service goals are. Develop projects and
activities that include all members of the
Kiwanis-family.
Orphanages
Visit an orphanage and entertain the
youngsters with a Christmas party. Take them
small gifts, play games for entertainment,
show them a movie or a cartoon, and serve
refreshments.
Rake ‘n Run
To help senior citizens winterize their yards,
work on a Saturday in late October, raking
and bagging leaves. Bring your own rakes
and shovels, and let the club provides trash
bags. Have senior citizens sign up for this
service through their church, the city, or the
school. Ask parents to serve as team leaders,
driving students to their work sites and
supervising them. At the end of the day,
everyone regroups at the school for a pizza
party.

Of the Month
Saint Louis
Saint Louis has done an amazing job this month! They are
truly working hard. They were the first key club in our
division to pay their club dues and they earned an early
bird patch. On November 12 they helped re-build
Millennium Park. Saint Louis has done an excellent job of
turning in their monthly reports in ON TIME and keeping
me updated on what‟s going on in their club. I was able
to attend their eighth grade day and talk to eighth
graders about joining key club. Keep up the fantastic
work Saint Louis!
When? December 10, 2011
Where? Books-a-Million in

Millennium Park It‟s been nearly 10 months
since Millennium Park was
burned down and Key
Clubbers are already in
action to help rebuild it. The
Barbe and Saint Louis Key
Club helped rebuild the
new park. Barbe
volunteered on November
6th and Saint Louis
volunteered on November
12th. Although both
volunteered on different
days, they still made a huge
impact. Key Clubbers were
required to clean, help
move objects and help out
with whatever the adults
needed. Great job Key
Clubbers!
