What happens in the mind is reflected in the body, and what happens in the body affects the mind. As we move we make connections, with ourselves, with others and with the world. If unwanted or unhealthy patterns of moving and feeling are repeated over time and become habitual, a person can become stuck and unwell. By focusing on symbolism through the active shaping of thoughts and feelings that underlie communciation, Dance Therapy encourages movement metaphors that express the hidden and symbolic aspects of the self. Over time, movement is explored as a way of linking body awareness with emotional awareness
