Report

Pre-RevCom IEEE-SA Review

• Possibly near the end of Working Group Letter Ballot (3rd recirc or 4th recirc) , we will offer the draft to the publications editor for review. This allows ambiguities and errors to be addressed in Sponsor Ballot by comments, rather than discover the ambiguities and errors after RevCom.

• It appears that during MEC is the least risky time for a publication editor’s review.

• TGs Draft 7.0 is expected out of July plenary, and by agreement with ExCom and IEEE SA staff, will go for professional editing for ~50 days, after which Draft 8.0 will be available to start Sponsor Ballot.

Listing of pertinent use casesIn order to create a list of functional requirements for the Smart Grid, an exercise was performed to list all pertinent use cases that involve network communication. Sources for this information include the Southern California Edison Use Cases, Grid Wise Architectural Console use cases, EPRI and others. Use cases from all of these sources were selected based upon a network requirements basis. From this research the following high level use cases have been identified

Topic #2 Summary

Suitability of 802.11 to Smart Grid

• As is – Generally complete

• With addition of TGs mesh and S1G – enhanced range and application diversity

• Anything Further??

• Nothing proposed

JTC1 ad hoc reviewed items related to SB drafts, PSDO, WAPI & tutorial

• Progress in Beijing (May 2010)– Reviewed status of SB drafts sent to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6

• Latest 11v/p/z were NOT sent to SC6

– Discussed possible liaison to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6 regarding process comments from the China NB• Chair took action to draft letter that will be reviewed later today

– Review WAPI status in ISO/IEC JTC1/SC6• No change since WAPI NP was approved

– Discuss any other JTC1/SC6 liaison matters• Discussed options for working with SC6 on reviewing WAPI and

ensuring coexistence with 802.11

• Plans for San Diego (July 2010)– Identify IEEE rep for JTC1/SC6 meeting in London in Sept
