TARGET AUDIENCE
Today’s Learning ObjecRve:
Students will understand
what is meant by
target audience and
will be able to visually
represent this in a
mood board.
WHAT IS A TARGET AUDIENCE?
A parRcular group at which a product
such as a film or adverRsement
is aimed.
HOW TO DECIDE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
• Mood board/s • Ques-oners | Surveys
• Forums | Social media • Focus groups | Interviews
MOOD BOARDS When trying to convey a
design idea, moods, feelings and fluffy
stuff like that can be difficult
to communicate. So designers will
o\en use mood boards: a collecRon
of textures, images and text related
to a design theme as a reference
point.
What may this product be? Who may
the audience be?

TASK • You are required to create your own mood board to help define the audience for a new,
upcoming music fesRval called “Peace Out.” The founders of the event require graphics for all elements of the event and are unsure how to picture what their audience looks like.
• The music fesRval reflects the demographics, nature and vibe of popular and well known fesRval “Coachella.” (Research this if you are unsure what it is)
• Using found images in an A4 sized mood board, visually display what a typical example of the fesRval’s target audience is.
• Show what it is about the audience that fits the stereotype of these kinds of fesRval goers. What do they wear? What do they eat? What do they do in their spare Rme?
• Visually define your audience through age, gender, socio-‐economical status, and culture or sub culture.
• You can make your digital collage/mood board using any ICT tool including Microso\ or Adobe programs.
• Print this out and put it in your visual diary for assessment. Finish for homework if needed.
NEXT LESSON
We will be learning how to research an audience through the use of surveys.
