There are now 20,000 to 25,000 vacation homes, villas and rental properties in Central Florida, mostly located near the theme parks.
The official nickname of the city of Orlando is “The City Beautiful,” although it is also known as “O-Town.”
Even though few people outside of Florida knew where Orlando was before Walt Disney World opened in 1971, it had been around for nearly a century before that; it was incorporated in 1875.
Although many of Orlando’s citizens (especially the most famous ones) are originally from somewhere else, there are a few celebrities who were born and raised in Orlando, including Wayne Brady and Delta Burke.
DAV is pleased to welcome President Barack Obama to our 92nd National Convention. Because of security concerns, only registered attendees will be allowed into the room, and they must display an official convention badge.

DAV is a strong and influential advocate for veterans and fights on their behalf to ensure they receive the full range of services and protections they deserve. We do this by providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining VA benefits and by advocating for veterans’ rights in Washington, D.C. We do it all without the help of federal funding. We have a proven track record of results. Each year, we represent more than 300,000 claims for earned benefits through 100 offices throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as through Mobile Service Offices, which go out to rural communities. No other organization has helped more veterans lead high-quality lives after service than DAV. We are veterans helping veterans. And we understand better than anyone else the unique and pressing needs facing our men and women returning home who must learn to live with illnesses or injuries related to their military service.

Veterans who’ve sacrificed must overcome many obstacles, and DAV provides programs that address their overall health and well-being. Beyond helping hundreds of thousands of veterans each year to access available government benefits, DAV and the DAV Charitable Service Trust fund rehabilitation and counseling programs for injured veterans, link veterans to job training programs, work to address homelessness and provide opportunities for veterans to connect and share their stories.
With the strength of 1.2 million members, DAV represents the voices of veterans before Congress, advocating for much-needed services for veterans.
20Veterans Helping Veterans
Army Staff Sgt. Kristian “Deno” Cedeño and his wife, Gwen. Cedeño is the 2013 DAV Freedom Award winner.
We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life. This mission is carried forward by:
Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies of government; Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally,
and to disabled veterans and their families specifically; Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and
their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government; Extending the DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and
their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters; and Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for
their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.
21Mission Statement
First-rate learning opportunities to help you meet tomorrow’s challenges in your Chapter, Unit and Department when you return home from Orlando.
The following seminar descriptions outline a line-up of education opportunities offered at the 92nd National Convention of DAV and the Auxiliary. All of these sessions are open to every DAV and Auxiliary member and guests registered for the convention. You are encouraged to attend as many as possible.
Because some seminars had to be scheduled at the same time, you won’t be able to make all of them. So read over the descriptions and decide which seminars interest you the most and which will be the greatest help in your work with DAV and the Auxiliary. All of these seminars offer valuable information to help you become more effective in your work for America’s ill and injured veterans and their families.
