I do hope your holidays were
enjoyable and fun as you spent
quality time with your children.
It was great to return to Dorset after my wife
Val & I did some minor home renovations
over the break. Seeing students with smiling
faces, hearing their stories and enjoying
engaging once again with the school
community.
If you are a parent of a girl, a new book is
now in stores which is highly recommended
‘a must read’. I bought mine and read it -
great value.
Steve also authored RAISING BOYS his
earlier book, still in stores.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News
•Welcome back to an exciting year in the Kitchen and Garden. The children planted an amazing amount of veggies at the end of term 4, which have thrived mainly due to the hard work of Anna and our wonderful volunteers Julie Rodriguez and Sue Clark whom spent many hours over the holidays watering. Thank-you! Your efforts are very much appreciated. •Lil and the students will now have lots of fun cooking up a storm with this lovely produce. All of Lil’s 2012 recipes are now on the school website under the SAKG tab if you missed any. •Volunteers are a very important part of the success of the SAKG Program and pleasingly we have already had offers from parents willing to help. This could be as little as 1 or 2 hours per fortnight on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and we’d love to have you on board. Please leave your name and contact details at the office if you think you can help. Happy gardening and cooking!

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden There has been negative comments on Facebook etc in regard to this program. The Stephanie Alexander foundation provide a one off grant of $60,000 for the building of infrastructure for the program ie the kitchen and garden. This school spent $120,000 in the infrastructure, in order to have the best possible facilities for the children. The foundation does not provide any further funds. The running and staffing of the program is a school expense. Salaries, food and gardening requirements must be financed at the school level - hence the termly fee of $15.00 to help with the expenses. The children receive 5 lunches per term from the kitchen, plants etc are bought to plant in the gardens. A fantastic program and our children are very fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved. Thank you for supporting the program and we could do with a great many more parent helpers to facilitate the program!! Book List / Fees Thank you to the parents who are paying fees and booklists. When books are paid for, children will receive their supplies. The non-payment of fees etc will effect the programs run by the school and it would be great to avoid this outcome. School Council Elections The school council year concludes on March 31st. Notices of elections will be distributed next week. Please come and see me if you are thinking of standing for council and I can answer any questions you may have. School Grounds Much work has been done over the holidays and the grounds look great. The vegetable gardens have survived the heat and lack of rain. Thank you to the volunteers who watered the gardens during the holidays. The Peace garden is beautiful and the children are really enjoying that environment. The back car park looks great also. A twilight working bee will be held shortly! I think we need to construct a green house for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. The children are working exceptionally well and tone and discipline of the school is excellent. Keep up the great work. Regards,
John Jacobs Principal
