The Tuscany Series Double Hung is designed for New Construction, Insert Replacement or Z BarReplacement applications. The standard Double Hungframe is 3 1/4” deep and comes with a 1 3/4” tall nailfin at a 1 3/8” setback. The Block frame model isavailable for Insert Replacement into an existingwood window frame. We also offer two different Z Bar frame options for Replacement into stucco exterior applications.
The Tuscany Double Hung gives you a high qualitywindow with traditional styling details and outstand-ing energy performance. They are available in Whiteor Tan frames. The durable vinyl frames are virtuallymaintenance free and will never need painting orstaining. We build your windows to your exact sizeand specifications, at NO extra charge.
Double Hung windows made in our Western locations have a pocket sill design. Double Hungsmade East of the Rockies feature a traditional slopedsill design. The following pages illustrate the pocketsill version.
Both the upper and lower sash tilt in for easy clean-ing. The Tuscany sash operate smoothly on stainlesssteel constant force sash balances and are counterbal-anced to stay where you open them. Tuscany DoubleHungs feature our exclusive SmartTouch™ lock. Theyalso have our unique upper sash detents which helphold the upper sash closed, making for easier locking.We have a patent pending for both of these Milgardinnovations.

COMPONENTS
FRAMETuscany is available in a variety of frame and trim choices. The 3-1/4” deep nail on frame is ideal for both New Construction andReplacement installations. We offer a standard nail fin frame for NewConstruction, a Block frame with no fins for insert Replacement andtwo different Z bar flange options, welded into the frame, for stuccoexterior Replacement applications. Frame components are made of ahigh performance uPVC, rigid polyvinyl chloride material, custom com-pounded for superior impact resistance, color retention and weatherresistance. The frame and sash corners are all precision mitered andfusion welded for a lifetime of air and water resistance.
The Tuscany product line meets or exceeds the AAMA/WDMA/CSA101/I.S.2/A 440-05 Industry Specification for Windows and Doors. Theyare also tested for Forced Entry Resistance to the ASTM F588-97 stan-dard, Grade 20 level. Each window is labeled with the NFRC Energy Starperformance information, based on the type of glazing you select.

BLOCK FRAMEThe block frame style is a window frame profile without a nailfin. The block frame allows an installer to insert the replace-
ment window into the existing frame, without disturbing thehome’s internal or external wall surfaces. Installation methodincludes carefully drilling through the jamb.
Z-BAR (STANDARD AND WIDE)Two extruded Z-bar frame choices are available withTuscany™ series, standard (approximately 1-5/8”) and wide (approximately 2-1/8”). Z-bar installation, themethod of removing the aluminum sash but leaving the framein place, is ideal with aluminum retrofit in stucco applicationsand can save a significant amount on installation costs.
NAIL-ON FIN (1-1/4” OR 2” FIN WIDTHS AVAILABLE)A pre-punched nail flange extends around the perimeter frame,securing the window in rough openings and acting as a part ofthe flashing system.

The 2” brickmold is sent separately to the field with the window,and snapped in-place after window installation. The 1” contour and3/4” flat options are welded in place at the factory. All trim optionsare extruded by Milgard and are available in white and tan.
WEEP SYSTEMHollow sill construction and offset weep baffles release anyaccumulated moisture from the sill pockets and help preventblow back, and helps control the water flow caused by acombination of wind and rain.
GLAZING MATERIAL AAMA-approved glazing tape adheres glass to the fixed andvent panel frames which seals and cushions the glass. Rigidvinyl setting blocks are used to support the unit above the sill,preventing glass shear (glass in the insulted unit becomes off-set). Extruded vinyl glazing (snap-in) bead is applied aroundthe interior edge. “Interior glazing” makes replacement of glaz-ing unit convenient; bead is mitered at 45 degree for a fin-ished look. Insulating dual glazed panes has a 7/8'” overallglass thickness, are dual seal equivalent, sealed for optimalenergy efficiency. All Tuscany™ windows currently meet orexceed EnergyStar® performance in all climate zones with a

0.35 u-factor or lower. Specialty glass options are availableupon request which can help achieve as much as a 26%improvement in u-factor. Specialty glass options for privacy,noise abatement and aesthetics are available upon request.
WEATHERSTRIPPINGSilicone-treated water-repellent polypropylene fin seal weatherstrip-ping provides a durable, weather tight seal. The weatherstripping isinstalled in an integral, continuous keyway around 3-sides of thevent and on the fixed interlock.
LOCKING ASSEMBLYMilgard’s exclusive patent-pending SmartTouch™ direct action lockmechanism provides security and finger-tip operation. The lockengages when the window is closed. The lock offers a visual indicatorthat when the window is closed, it is also locked. The SmartTouch™lock is unlike most locking mechanisms available today as it requiresno squeezing or twisting to operate, making it ideal in designs for theaging in place.
SCREENMilgard's exclusive PureView™ screen frames are cambered alu-minum, assembled with rigid nylon corner clips. Rolled pull rail pro-vides simple installation and removal. Screens come standard withmatching frame color. PureView's innovative screen uses smallerdiameter yarn, improving the interior view. The finer mesh alsoreduces the appearance of a screen, enhancing curb appeal.PureView's fiberglass charcoal screen mesh is strong, durable andeasy to replace. All screens are under one year warranty.
ENERGY PACKAGESMilgard offers two energy efficiency upgrade packages that offerincreased U-Value performance. 3D™ and 3D MAX™ use the ENER-GY STAR® criteria from each climate zone and utilize materials thatare tailored to each individual climate to increase energy efficiency.The combination of the frame material, product design and glazingunit make up the 3 components of the energy packages. TheTuscany Series receives up to 23% increase in energy efficiency withthe 3D MAX package.

Caution: The use of petroleum based fuels or solvents as release agents instucco wall installations or glass cleaning will chemically attack materials usedin seals and other components, and voids the Milgard Warranty. The use of waxbased release agents is recommended.
Expanding foam for insulation purposes should not be used. Backer rod or loosepacked fiberglass bat insulation is recommended.
