Page 2: Double Page Article Construction

Before I began creating my double page article on Adobe In Design, I typed up all my text before on Microsoft Word, because it would be easier to copy and paste it onto the magazine, rather than typing it all up on In Design; which would have taken longer.

Also, another reason why I typed it up in Word, is because the text was more clearer and larger; I could see the spelling mistakes more clearly.

This is a screenshot on Adobe InDesign when I was adding columns for my text, i stuck to my flat plan and had them on the page to the right; I then thought that it would be better to have it on the left page and have most of the image on the right page.

I changed the layout and looked at all kinds of different text layouts, I then finally stuck to having the text columns on the left.

This is a screenshot of when I was producing text for the double page article on Photoshop.

I used the same style font and colours to maintain house style and the same themes; if I had used pink text it would look as if that page was from a different magazine genre.

Here is the first stage of the image manipulation for the double page article. Firstly, I cut the image from the background so that I could place it on the magazine with I having square background; if I never cut it from the background the image would be square and would the colours would bleed into the background of the magazine.

Here is the second step of the image manipulation for the double page article on Adobe Photoshop.

I zoomed in on the models face and selected the eyes with the ‘magnetic lasso tool’, then I went to the tab named ‘colour’ and selected the tab, named ‘hue/saturation’.

Moreover, I set the hue to a colour of blue and the saturation to medium, so that it would be just a tint of blue rather than a bold and bright blue.

Here is the third step for the image manipulation on Adobe Photoshop.

I selected the models jacket with the ‘magnetic lasso tool’ and I again used the hue/saturation to add a tint of colour to it; the blue tint made it look and feel part of the magazine.

I made sure not to select any other part of the image, so that it was just the jacket that was tinted; this was one the difficulties I faced whilst editing the image.

This is a screenshot of when I added the text to the magazine on Adobe InDesign, I copied and pasted the text of the word document which I typed up earlier.

Furthermore, I added the image that I had edited. I tried my best to make the image spread over the two pages, rather than having it on one; having it on both pages shows how both pages are on the same topic and how they are linked.

This is a screenshot of after I had added a blue strip to the bottom of my double page.

What is more, is added a bold text with a gradient which I made on Photoshop, the word ‘Exclusive’ grabs the audiences attention by telling them that this interview in ONLY for this magazine and cannot be found elsewhere.

This was the first design on Photoshop of the turntable logo for the double page article.

It was pleased with the look, however, I though if I wanted to maintain a house style then I should use the same style of logos and images.

Therefore, I used the same logo I designed for the contents page to maintain the same house style and themes.

This is screenshot of when I added the text I had earlier created on Photoshop to the magazine on InDesign.

I was happy with the look and I felt that I had maintained the same house style and themes

Moreover, I placed the logo onto the blank space that I had on the right hand side to use as much space as possible on the magazine; the reader wouldn’t want to see blank spaces, it wouldn’t be appealing

Here Is a screenshot of when I added text to the right page.

Also I created another logo that linked into the text about the interview; the logo represents the tour that this star is going to be doing.

Also, I added page numbers to the bottom.

I made the background for the number on Photoshop by creating a square shape and adding a colour gradient to it, I then added it to InDesign and finally I added the text.
