DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS

At first I was confuse about my composition for my double page spread and I wasn’t sure how to do my layout. However, after doing some research on Korean music magazine’s double page spread. I was able to get an idea and set out my images and texts.

For my double page spread, I decided to take each solo photo of my models because I wanted my images to look-like a street photography which is why, I wanted to focus more on fashion as K-POP singers are dressed up in a way which are hard to pull off by non-celebrities. As I was trying to make my photos look-like street style, throughout the whole shoot I was communicating with my models to make them feel relaxed and not too worked up since the whole point of these photos was to capture the individual’s unique fashion sense. I dressed my two models Rushali and Bini mostly in black because that particular colour is easy to style to make it look classy, casual yet chic at the same time. Also, I made sure both of them had a fashion statement for example, Rushali is wearing a light blue cardigan while Bini is

wearing a white with grey blazer, a sliver chunky necklace and white socks.

First I wanted to put these images like this on my double page spread on a white background however; I didn’t like how the images looked on a white background. Therefore, I decided to remove the background of the images by using the ‘Erase Tool’ and put it on top of a colour background.

Also, I decided to put the images bit far away from each other so that my audience could see the clothes of my models properly. As well as, if I had put the images together then, it would look cluttered and there would be a lot of empty spaces in the background.

Before After

As you can see after I positioned my images far apart, I was able to put at least 6 questions with 2 addition images at the right hand side corner. At first I had this font for my masthead however I changed it later into other font because I found the new font was more suitable and funky which matches the genre of music I was doing. I made my content an interview because I thought by doing an interview it helps to let the audience understand the difference between K-POP singers and American/British. I have followed conventions of a real magazine for most part as my double page spread contains page number and issue number which can be clearly seen. Also I have made the first letter of the paragraph in a large font so the readers can know where the article is starting from. In order to tell new readers about the group name I have made the font colour in white so it stands out in the dark background. I have also used different colours to aware the readers who said what in the interview.

Before After

I made changes in my double spread page due to the fact that the plain dark background colour made the double page spread look like a poster instead of a magazine. In order to develop my double page spread, I decided to change my background colour into a light tone of pink as I was changing the background colour this meant I had to change my texts colour too. Also I made more changes in my double page spread for example the layout of my texts composition and images. Before the way I had layout the texts composition looked like how texts are placed in a poster and I decided to change this by changing the size of texts and by spreading them out instead of just placing them in a same column.

I decided to change the image because the quality was not very good and it looked pixelated when the image was being stretched out hence I chose a different image which had better quality. I also decided to cut down on texts because before the amount of text made my double page spread looked like a poster which had a lot of information. I changed the size of the quote because I wanted to emphasise the information which was stated on the quote. As well as, I have included names of the artists so that the new readers will be able to recognise who they are and find out information which they want to know about them.

To create a new double page spread, I used this double page spread as an example to set out my text’s composition and use this to understand what type of colours to use and how to change the size of text to attract new and old readers into buy my magazine.
