Narrative

The film is going to follow a large chaotic family through everyday life exploring the challenges every family has to face, when a hard-working mother’s ex-husband starts to live with her children and her tough willed partner life begins to change for the worse. The fiery step-dad begins to lose his temper frequently which has a big impact on the kids who start to turn on each other. As the family’s situation gradually gets worse the mum constantly has doubts over whether she did the right thing leaving her husband and choosing someone who has now become violent, over her childhood sweetheart who loves her no matter what. In the end she leaves her partner and she goes back to her ex-husband as they and their family start to repair the damages caused by the step-dad’s actions and live life to the fullest.

Icons

The emerald wedding ring belongs to the mum and is an icon as throughout the film, she repeatedly looks at it because it was given to her by her husband at the time; it is symbolic of the month they met which was May, the birthstone for that month is an emerald. The audience will see that she looks at her ring as a symbol of her eternal love for her husband and that every time she sees it she has doubts that she made the right choice.

Textual Analysis

The lighting throughout most of the film will be high-key lighting to create a realistic and upbeat atmosphere about the film. There will be quite fast backing tracks for the scenes showing chaos and the music will become darker and solemn as the film becomes more serious and the step-dad’s temper rises and this will be reflected through the choice of backing tracks. The film will be shot at a little bit of a distance to get in a bigger view of what is happening, especially during scenes of chaos.

Audience interest

Other films that contains family life mainly feature comical scenes and overall has a positive atmosphere however

this film contradicts that stereotype first of all by the title being quite negative and dramatic; also the plot of the

film can explore more sides of realistic family drama and create scenes that are less scripted and more natural.

The marketing for this film will be a film poster that makes a bold statement and showing all of the characters so the

audience knows that there will be chaos.

The certificate rating for this film is a 15.
