strong reflection of Hungary’s Christian heritage, each handstruck hammered silver coin bears a superb design of Mary with the Baby Jesus. A unique and fascinating gift, and spectacular value for a coin in Very Fine, as here.
‘And there came a certain widow, and she threw in two mites…and [Jesus said]…that this poor widow hath cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she did cast in all she had.’ Mark 12:41-44Taking collectors back to the time of the birth of Christ, the Judaean Bronze Prutah is the most likely candidate as the Widow’s Mite – a
coin used by Christ in his teachings, as noted in the Bible in Mark 12:41-44. Real, tangible Ancient history you can hold in your hands, this is your chance to secure this famous coin at amazing ‘Hoard Prices’! Circulating in Judaea at the time of Christ, the Prutah was issued in the name of Alexander Jannaeus – one of the first Hasmonaean Kings to produce coins. Following a recent bulk purchase from
Europe, we are able to offer this genuine 2,000-year-old Coin of the Bible (complete with a Certificate of Authenticity) at a sensational price. Affordable individually at A$17.95 apiece, buy five and SAVE A$30!
ByzantineGold!THE BABY JESUS
FROM THE ANCIENT CELTSBefore the introduction of struck coinage, Celtic tribes across Europe employedmany objects as currency – including bronze rings. Measuring 15mm to 25mm
in diameter, and perfect for use as jewellery, these genuine artefacts date from before Christ’s birth – 600 to 800BC. Discovered in eastern Europe, and in good condition,
A$37.95 is a small price to pay to hold the rich history of the Ancient Celts in your hands.

Offering all the historical fascination of one of the world’s greatest empires, this superb 1,400-year-old Byzantine gold coin represents a wonderful collector opportunity. Lasting twice as long as its forefather, the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire dates from 500AD until 1453AD, when crushed by the Ottoman Empire. During that time, the Byzantines reached heights the equal of any attained during the glory years of Rome. Constantinople was the jewel in its crown, the hub of commercial and
cultural activity on which the empire was founded. The metropolis was also the source of most of the Empire’s gold coinage, including these outstanding gold Solidii - measuring approximately 20mm and weighing around 4g. In Very Fine condition, this glorious gold coin was issued during the reign of Constans II, who ruled during a time of great external threat to the Empire (641-68AD) before dying in a somewhat bizarre fashion at the age of 39 – hit over the head whilst taking a bath by a slave wielding a marble
soap-dish! Just three coins in stock!

Mint Sets on Show!
The attraction of owning
the first ever Australian ‘US
Show product’ officially endorsed by the American NumismaticAssociation is strong indeed. The attraction of securing the 2008 and 2009 Silver Kookaburras – BOTH of which have SOLD OUT at the Perth Mint – is irresistible!
An outstanding opportunity for Downies clients, our attendance at America’s premier numismatic festival in Los Angeles enabled us to obtain a small number of these sets from the tiny limited edition of 2,000 – each comprising the 40.60mm, .999 fine silver 1oz Kookaburras from 2008 and 2009. Housed in an official, individually numbered Perth Mint pack, we

the COMPLETE 2009
ANDA Show Mint Set
Series!
Issued at the ANDA
Shows held in Brisbane,
Melbourne and
Sydney, this exciting
release followed
the Royal Australian
Mint’s decision not to
attend ANDA Shows
throughout 2009. As a
result, ANDA negotiated
with the RAM to
create a special limited
edition version of the
International Year of
Astronomy 2009 Mint
Set for each ANDA
Show. As Downies
attended each of
these key numismatic
festivals, we were in a
position to secure an
admittedly tiny number
of each 2009 ANDA
Show Mint Set from the
limited edition of 1,500.
A complete collection,
the Brisbane Mint
Set carries a special
ANDA sticker, with the
Melbourne and Sydney
sets graced with a
special ANDA Show

interest in all Australian

have just a few sets left

The Perth Mint also
authorised a special
Show product for the
ANDA Coin & Note
Shows in 2009 – with
similarly spectacular
results!
Restricted to an
overall limited edition
of 6,000, this unique
presentation was

the three 2009 ANDA

Comprising the 40.60mm 2009 $1

the overwhelming
response to this
precious metal pair is, in
large part, a reflection of
the ongoing popularity
in Australia for Show
products.
Above and beyond
that, however, there is
no doubt that interest
in this special release
has been driven by the
individual components
– neither of which
is available at the

now closed, these sets

types to their collection.

Scarcitiesfrom the Sixties!
Filling a gaping hole
in one of Australia’s
longest-running, most
important collector
programs (the RAM’s
Mint Set Series), we
have been able to
assemble complete,
strictly Uncirculated
coin sets from both
1967 and 1968!
Considered the ‘Lost
Years’ of Australian
currency, the RAM did
not issue Mint Sets in
1967 and 1968. This
was in part due to the
fact that Australia’s new
decimal system had
been thrown into chaos
when the original 1966
Silver Round 50c was
withdrawn due to the
rise in silver prices, with
no new 50c type issued
in its place. In addition,
the production of
decimal coins in these
years was split between
the RAM (all 5c-20c
issues), the Perth Mint
(both 2c dates) and the
Melbourne Mint (both 1c
dates), and the difficulty
in co-ordinating three
mints to create collector
sets as first issued by
the RAM in 1966 could
not be overcome.
With no annual sets
issued during this
time, the coins issued
in 1967 and 1968 can
therefore be found
only in circulation.
With more than four
decades having passed,
all 1967 and 1968
dates are naturally
extremely scarce today
in premium grade – and
continuing to rise in
market value. The 1967
20c is now valued at
A$35, for example, with
the 1968 2c and 20c
cataloguing at A$65 and
A$100 respectively!
Whether to fill that gap
in your RAM Mint Set
collection, or secure a
broad array of scarce,
key early decimal dates
in the finest quality, this
is your chance. Housed
in the same Mint Set
style presentation
packaging used by
the RAM after 1984,
each 5-coin collection
(1c-20c) comprises
coins taken from
original Mint Rolls and
therefore in impeccable
Uncirculated condition.

therefore destined to

most exclusive release

desirable, the second

the Asian coin market,
these ostensibly
generous mintages
are in fact tiny – as are
our allocations from
those mintages. Indeed,
