About Dr Gokhale

• Dr. Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale did the 1st successful Heart Transplant, first successful Lung Transplant and 1st successful implantation of ventricular assist device in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

• He has one of the largest experiences in Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery in India.

Profile

• Dr. Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale is Chief Cardiothoracic, Transplant andMinimal Access Cardiac Surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad.

• Earlier he worked at Global Hospitals (2003-2012), Medicity Hospitals(1996-2003) and NIMS (1990-92).

• He was trained in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at Christian MedicalCollege Hospital, Vellore, South India, and obtained M.Ch and DNBdegrees in that specialty in 1990.

• He worked as Assistant Professor in the division of Cardiothoracic andVascular Surgery, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS),Hyderabad, till 1992.

Fellowships

• During 1992-93, he did fellowship in Heart Transplantation and LungTransplantation at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

• He worked as a Fellow in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Westmead Hospital,Sydney, from 1993 to 1995.

• During 1995-1996, he did Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St Louis,USA, with Dr. Nicholas Kouchoukos and gained experience in the areas ofredo Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery and aortic aneurysm surgeries androot repairs.

• Over the past few decades, he visited many surgeons at leadingCardiothoracic and Transplant Centers in the World.

Heart Transplantation

• Dr. Gokhale did the first successful Heart Transplantation in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in 2004. So far this team did 9 heart transplants.

• Dr Gokhale CT Associates also has the distinction of doing Heart Transplant successfully on a 69 year old man (oldest person to undergo Heart Transplant in India) in 2011.

• Dr.AGK Gokhale and team performed simultaneous Heart and Kidney Transplantation for the first time in India.

Lung Transplantation

• Dr Gokhale and his team did 3 single lung transplants so far. They did the first successful lung transplant in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on 8th of September, 2012 on a 34 year old lady from Pune, Maharashtra.

• She was bedridden depending on oxygen at rest. She was investigated and kept ready for transplant. On the night of 8th of September, 2012, a donor with blood group compatibility became available and Ms Archana underwent right Lung Transplant successfully.

• So far in India nearly 125 Heart Transplants and about 20 Lung Transplants are done.

Minimal Invasive Heart Surgery

• Dr. A.G.K.Gokhale is one of the very few surgeons in India who has large experience in minimal access bypass surgery. For the first time in India, he did 5 bypass grafts for a patient through minimal access approach. He regularly conducts live workshops in minimal access heart surgery to train heart surgeons.

• Dr Gokhale CT Associates has one of the largest experiences in India in Minimal Access Coronary Bypass (MICAB) and Minimal access mitral valve replacements and closure of atrial septal defects.

• They have done over 175 such procedures so far. Dr Gokhale is invited by many surgeons nationally and internationally to train them in Minimal Access Heart Surgery.
