Most of the letters from Dr. 'Whitlock are in his ownham:writing.

In all these papers there is no indication as to Dr. Whitlock's

date or place of birth or eTen his appr<mma'te age at the 'time of

his death, nor of his parents, wife, next-of-kin or other relati '\188,

Dor of his education or prior life.

These documents cover the last year or 80 of his life, a year speut

.ostly in the NewMexioo Volunteers. He seems to have been dis-

satisfied with Army life and left it as soon as his elilistment

expired.

JHe was killed on November5, 1862.

Contemporary newspapers may"gi "ge details of Dr. Whitlockt slife

and death and the eventual fate of 1st Lt. Philip Morris, leader

of the aggression against the doctor.
