Mechanical Systems

• Mechanical systems, both projects Designed with advanced metering capabilities tied to Base Energy Management

Controls System (EMCS) through dedicated computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) program

BEQ complexes have preconditioned (heating and chilled water) outside air systems to temper airflows via a central air distribution system per floor

Use of pressure-independent control valves to enhance efficiency of 4-pipe hydronic system and allow for whole-building design approach through seamless controls integration

. Window interlock systems that shut off fan coil units when windows are opened

. Perforated metal exterior sunshades with vertical fins to cut off low angle morning and afternoon solar heat gain

. Native, drought-tolerant landscaping irrigated with subsurface drip irrigation to minimize evaporation

. 100% of the landscape irrigation provided through graywater filtration system supplying non-potable water recovered from the buildings’ laundry facilities.

Overall goal: Address 2009 Marine Corps BEQ Enhancement Initiative to create “more home-like living environment for single Marines”

Team Betterments included:

. Upgrades on materials, finishes

– Parking Garages. Package 9: 706 spaces. Package 4: 540 spaces

– Landmark features. Package 9: landmark tower with outdoor amphitheater. Package 4: 500-seat open-air amphitheater, 420’ Ninja Warrior style obstacle course
