Drinking Water Aesthetics: Perception is Reality

When it comes to aesthetic aspects of drinking water treatment, perception is reality. Customers respond most to what they see, smell or taste with their own senses. Utilities need to be prepared with the latest regulatory information, treatment strategies, and a response plan for aesthetic events. Come hear leading researchers and practitioners address many aspects of aesthetics, from algae blooms and chlorine burns to Manganese.

** Approved CPE/CEC credit offering is 5 hours **Program Schedule

He worked for AWWA for 25 years and prior to AWWA, worked for 12 years in consulting engineering.

Beate Wright, PE, is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in water quality and treatment, project management and water treatment design. She is responsible for developing and cultivating WaterRF Washington, DC congressional and government agency relationships to promote WaterRF’s mission. Previously, she was the Director of Operations for Loudoun Water where she ensured the effective operation of Loudoun Water’s 18 million gallons per day (mgd) Goose Creek Water Treatment Facility and 11 mgd Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility.

Gary Schafran, PhD is a professor at Old Dominion University who has directed and conducted water quality studies in natural and engineered systems for over thirty years. He has extensive experience in lake-watershed studies, inter-basin water transfers, fate and transport of natural organic matter, nutrient dynamics in lakes, disinfection by-product formation, and lake management strategies to improve raw water quality. His research in water treatment processes has focused on NOM/DBP precursor removal through coagulation and sorption processes.

Jeanne Bennett-Bailey has worked in the drinking-water community for more than 30 years. She recently retired as the Public Affairs Officer for Fairfax Water.
