The motors of the VEM type series are tested and certifi ed in accordance with the applicable directi-ve 94/9/EC (in future directive 2014/34/EU). They possess EC type-examination certifi cates or type-examination certifi cates issued by the following test bodies:› Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt Braun-
schweig (Notifi ed Body no. 102)› IBExU Institut für Sicherheitstechnik GmbH Freiberg
(Notifi ed Body no. 0637)› DEKRA EXAM GmbH (Notifi ed Body no. 0158)› CESI (Notifi ed Body no. 0722)Customer-specifi c motors which deviate from the VEM type series receive a declaration of conformity in accordance with directive 94/9/EC after testing.
The test certifi cates are recognised by all member states of the European Union, and are additionally accepted by those CENELEC members which do not belong to the EU. In the case of special versions in-fl uencing explosion protection (pole-changing motors, other frequencies, outputs or coolant temperatures, inverter operation, etc.), supplementary or renewed approval is required.

Type of protection increased safety “e” for converter-fed operation, Ex e
The new method developed by PTB Braunschweig for the certifi cation of explosion-protected motors with protection type “e” (increased safety) permits use of these motors on a frequency converter, without requiring a permanent coupling between motor and converter as in the past. It is merely necessary for the frequency converters to meet the demands specifi ed in the EC Type Examination Certifi cate.
