Happy New Year from your new President of the CDS.
My name is Lani Piper and I have been a member of our club for the past nine years. It has been an incredible
journey for me as I started out a total novice to driving. With the help of so many new friends and the great
training events the experience has been very rewarding.
At the end of 2012 we lost two hard working board members. We want to thank Jim Rihanek for his years of
service on the board and all the hard work he has done at so many events. And to Sandy Clayton our outgoing
President who shared her knowledge of horses and her home for many events.
Cindy Pride has stepped down as secretary because she is traveling the country, we do so miss her.
The board has two new directors this year. They both bring so much talent and knowledge to our club. Pat
Lamprey is our new secretary (she was our newsletter editor for many years) and Fred Wehrli, our new Vice
President, who has been in our club many years.
Your board is very enthusiastic about the slate of events for this year. We feel there is something for every-
one, from novice to advance. We will be driving two new places this year for our fun days. More to follow
when information is available.
This year we will have a booth at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in March. I believe we have not done this
in a long time. How exciting to bring our wagons, carriages, carts, and buggy’s for the public to see. We
have a need for volunteers to host our table. Please contact Fred Wehrli at [email protected] if
you want to assist. So come join us for a new experience and show off our club to prospective drivers.
This is your club, if you have any questions or suggestions please contact me at [email protected].

Attention All Event Organizers
If you incur an expense that needs to be repaid out of the club’s checkbook you will need to provide a receipt. There is a form available for this and we will have them at the membership meetings. We will also provide copies in the Organizer’s Packet that we are putting together. Receipts are required to keep our books in order. Items that are donated require a receipt for the value of the item and the word “Donated” written on the receipt for tax purposes. This can include judge’s fees if the person judging normally charges for their service.

“Judges Award” winners Lani Piper & Nancy Rosenberg—
Nancy and I have enjoyed driving the Parker Christmas Carriage Parade for the last four years. Each year is a
challenge to decorate the boys, “Toby” and “Grizzly”. We enter under the name “Elizabeth Mini’s”. This year
the theme was “A Jingle Bell Christmas”. What fun we had coming up with that one!
We won first prize for the Judges Award, go Mini’s!!! - Lani Piper

Fred Wehrli and his horse Dusty won “Best of Theme - Jingle Bell Christmas” at this years Parker
Christmas Carriage Parade. Fred was accompanied by Members and Board-members of the Douglas-
Elbert County Horse Council. Dusty and the Carriage were dressed in lots of Bells & Sparkles. The
weather for this years parade was perfect and the parade came off beautifully.
