PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

With over a hundred years in the friction business, we have grown and prospered and have become the world’s leading supplier of brake friction.

Our continued success is based on providing technical excellence, consistent quality and constant innovation through intensive R&D investment.

TOMORROW’S SOLUTIONS DEVELOPED TODAY

TMD FRICTION believes in a continuous process of developing and refining braking products to improve performance for quieter, smoother, more efficient and environmentally responsible braking.

We invest more than $32 million each year to ensure we not only meet today’s demands, but pioneer the technology that will be needed for tomorrow.

Together with vehicle and brake manufacturers TMD FRICTION engineers design, develop and test brake friction products which meet the highest requirements related to comfort, performance and wear expectancy.

Our objective is not only to sell disc brake pads and drum brake linings - but also to develop the perfect technical solution for each respective vehicle application.

Our O.E. experience is such that we have been chosen to supply friction for the smallest cars, such as the Fiat 500, to the world's fastest and most powerful supercars, such as the Bugatti Veyron, as well as for truck, trailer, bus and coach applications.

Our expertise is not just restricted to public highways; we also put our knowledge and experience to the ultimate test by developing high performance friction for racing and motorsport, as well as for rail and industrial applications.

Part of TMD FRICTION's business philosophy and a fact for the company's success is the close geographical proximity of its R&D centers to O.E. vehicle production sites.

ENGINEERING

Safety is a key aspect in road traffic and industrial manufacturing

At TMD FRICTION we consider quality as a significant factor for the long-term success of our company. This overall validation process is based on:

1. Tests routinely performed by our own or certified external labs:

FMVSS-121 TMD O.E. Wear vs. Temp. TestChase Test Transverse Rupture StrengthKrauss Test Hardness Density Acetone Extraction Swell / Growth Particle Size Moisture Content Bulk DensityCompressibility Salt Spray CorrosionShear Strength

2. Lean management is a fundamental principle included in the global directives. By optimizing all cycles, we increase speed and flexibility improving product quality. Optimum process control helps greatly in preventing any form of waste, such as overproduction, repairs and waiting times.

Some of the points covered by our lean program are:

Both the material flow within the factories and the required supply chains are simplified and organized to minimize stocks and improve customer service.

For every location there is an overall plan which integrates all activities.

Lean production at every location is measured by six parameters: scrap, on-time delivery, inventory turnover, throughput times, overall equipment effectiveness and unit labor costs.

The result of our Lean Management system is incorporated in the long-term planning process.Lean Management does not just play a significant role in production - it equally affects all functions within of the organization - from replacement sales to purchasing department to logistics.

Analysis, improvement and standardization of processes lead to a better understanding of our products, less sources of error and a higher level of quality for our brake linings.

The federal government is in the middle of a three-year program to reduce the stopping distances of Class 8 tractors.

The first part of its new stopping distance regulations covered three axle tractors up to 59,600 pounds gross vehicle weight ratings (GAWR) and was effective on August 1st, 2011.

The program will be completed in August 2013 when all other tractors - with GAWRs over 59,600 pounds- are included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Association regulations. The goal, of course, is to make the stopping capability of trucks closer to that of a typical passenger car.

The primary change to the tractor’s brakes as a result of this rulemaking is the use of higher torque output disc brake pads and drum brake linings and the use of wider rear drum brakes.

During high deceleration stopping, a weight transfer occurs and adds significant load to the steer axle. This action is sometimes called “dive.”

As a result, more torque is required from the steer brakes. These vehicles, therefore, have either larger, higher torque drum brakes or air disc brakes. These steer brake changes, and the fact that air disc brakes are now an option on all axles, are changing the landscape of both original equipment (O.E.) brake linings and aftermarket brake linings in North America.
