Guatemala, officially known as the Republic of Guatemala, is a Central American country famous for its vibrant mix of Mayan and Spanish cultures. Guatemala City is the capital city, as well as the largest city in Guatemala with a population of 3.3 million. For its size, Guatemala boasts impressive diversity of geography: mountains with lush valleys between, small patches of desert and sand dunes, and coastal lowlands. Kids Alive has been serving vulnerable children here since 1992. Our Source of Hope School in the poverty-stricken town of Zapote is offering holistic care, education, and the good news of God’s love to over 200 children; our Oasis programs in San Lucas and Escuintla care for girls who have been sexually abused and traumatized and need emotional, medical, legal, and educational help to rebuild their lives.

Haiti is a sovereign state that shares the island of Hispaniola with Dominican Republic, and boasts the second-longest coastline in the Greater Antilles. Haitian culture combines African and European influences to form a unique atmosphere that is displayed in Haitian language, music, art, and religion. The capital city, Port-au-Prince, is home to 2.6 million people and most are of African descent. Kids Alive has been rescuing hopeless children in Haiti since 2002 and opened our first children’s home in 2004. Kids Alive is one of only two homes out of 57 in the country meeting best practices. In addition to the home, we operate a school for residential children as well as those in the surrounding area, and more than 100 children attend the school. We also provide nutritious lunches and after-school tutoring to help students stay on track.

Ombi la Kenya!

Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in eastern Africa and is situated over the equator. The terrain is large and diverse; the area extends from Lake Victoria to Lake Turkana, and farther southeast to the Indian Ocean. The estimated population is 48 million people, with 73% under 30 years old due to rapid population growth. From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya to the humid, tropical climate along the coast, Kenya is home to an impressive array of natural resources.Kids Alive currently provides an education, nutritious meals, medical care, and the love of Christ to 151 children in four residential homes and 350 children in our school. The Karundas Children’s Home provides loving care to children between the ages of 4 and 18, many of whom have been orphaned or abandoned due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. 78% of these children are HIV-positive.

Lebanon is one of the world’s smallest countries, with an area of only 10,452 square km (4,035 square miles), but within its borders are several very diverse geographical regions. The country’s physical geography is complex, and land forms, climate, soils, and vegetation differ markedly within short distances. The capital city is Beirut and it serves as the main seaport. Arabs make up 95% of Lebanon’s population and Armenians account for 4%.Kids Alive has been ministering to orphans and other at-risk children in Lebanon for 70 years! At our Dar El Awlad Children’s Home, we are providing care for 20 vulnerable boys who have been orphaned or are homeless for other reasons. Care includes shelter, food, clothing, medical attention, education, and house parents who provide love and emotional support. We also operate schools and refugee programs that serve hundreds of at-risk children.

Peru is located on the west side of South America and is an immensely biodiverse country, with habitats ranging from arid to tropical. The country contains parts of the Andes mountain range and the Amazon basin rainforest. 31.5 million people reside in Peru, 76% of whom live in urban areas; it is the fourth most populous country in South America. There are an estimated 15 uncontacted Amerindian tribes in Peru. Kids Alive is hard at work near the capital city of Lima in our Juniper Tree Children’s Home. This residential facility provides family-style homes for over 20 at-risk children and offers holistic care, education, and the knowledge of eternal hope in Christ as Saviour. In Manchay, our care center and school are providing education, meals, Bible lessons, basic health care, and early childhood skills for younger at-risk children.

Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is an island in East Asia characterized by its varied landscape: rugged mountain ranges and the flat and gently rolling plains that are home to most of Taiwan’s residents. Local culture blends elements of Chinese and Japanese history with increasingly Western ideas. Taipei is the capital city and has a population of seven million, which includes the surrounding metropolitan areas. Kids Alive has been working in Taiwan since 1971, primarily ministering to children from dysfunctional families or those who have been disabled by injury or disease. The campuses of the Nantou and Onesiphorus Children’s Homes include family-style homes where children are provided with loving house parents, holistic care, quality education, nutritious meals, and the good news of Christ’s love.

Dominican Republic is a sovereign nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti in the Greater Antilles. Juba

South Sudan, officially known as the Republic of South Sudan, gained its independence from Sudan in July of 2011. 12 million people reside here and the capital and largest city of Juba has a population of nearly half a million. This newly-formed nation is covered mostly in tropical forest, swamps, and grassland and hosts the second-largest wildlife migration in the world. Kids Alive has been operating the Good Shepherd Home in Wau since 2007, where boys who had previously lived on the streets or came from abusive homes can live in safety. Here they can have their physical, emotional, education, and social needs met in a loving atmosphere that is permeated with the Gospel and hope for a better future. The ministry also provides teachers for boys in a local juvenile prison, infant formula for babies in the nearby UN camp, and helps with school fees for 162 community children.

Myanmar, also known as Burma, is a southeast Asian country with 1,200 miles of uninterrupted coastline, natural resources like jade, oil, and teak, and over 800 species of birds. Myanmar has a population of 51.4 million people, and 5 million of those live in the former capital city of Yangon. The current capital is Naypyidaw, which is the transportation hub of the country and has a strong government and military presence.Kids Alive is currently serving 72 children in an after-school program in Dawei. These at-risk children, who come from the poorest sectors and often live in makeshift homes, are provided with meals, snacks, vitamins, educational support, books, and basic medical care. Our staff strive to foster a warm and caring environment where children can feel safe and have their needs met.

Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a land-locked country in south-central Africa and has a population of 16.5 million. Lusaka is the capital city and largest city, and is home to over four million people. The climate is tropical and geography consists of high plateaus and mountains dissected by river valleys. With 14 ecosystems and more than 7,000 different animal species, Zambia boasts impressive biodiversity. Kids Alive is ministering to over 700 at-risk children in Lusaka, and in Mongu in western Zambia. Two residential villages, one school, and our care center program strive to provide holistic care, recognizing the distinct needs of boys and girls. Our homes provide a safe place to sleep, nutritious meals, health care, and daily Gospel teaching. Our schools provide quality education, Bible studies, and at least one meal a day to over 600 children. For many children this is the only meal they’ll eat each day.

Romania is a sovereign nation in Eastern Europe that borders the Black Sea to the southeast and is the seventh most populous member country of the European Union, boasting almost 20 million residents. Europe’s famous River Danube empties into Romania’s Danube Delta, and the Carpathian Mountains cross the country from north to southwest. Romania is home to one of the largest areas of undisturbed forest in Europe. Kids Alive currently operates two programs in the village of Dobrun for almost 50 at-risk children. At House of Hope, we have housed and cared for 10 girls in a loving home environment and have seen them learn, grow, and thrive. Denisa Care Center provides tutoring, school supplies, healthy social activities, and nutritious snacks to local at-risk children.

Sudan, officially known as the Republic of Sudan and sometimes referred to as North Sudan, is a country in northeast Africa. It is the third largest country in Africa with a population of roughly 37 million inhabitants. The capital city, Khartoum, is located at the confluence of the Blue Nile and White Nile where the Nile River is formed. Sudan also contains rich mineral resources such as copper, cobalt, gold, granite, and natural gases.Kids Alive is currently caring for 22 young boys in the Boys’ Hope Center in Sudan. This war-torn country has left many children with no safety from crime and child labour, and our committed caregivers provide physical, emotional, social, and educational support all while showing the love of Christ to at-risk boys. Healthy meals and basic medical care give these boys hope for a brighter tomorrow.
