UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

Dubbo is one of the State’s most popular holiday destinations attracting visitors from all corners of the world – and no wonder, with everything from an African safari

to a trip back to the 1800’s – all right here in our backyard.

TARONGA WESTERN PLAINS ZOOFind yourself surrounded by fascinating wildlife on vast open plains and be immersed in the unique serenity of Taronga Western Plains Zoo. If you’re feeling eager, start with a leisurely guided early morning walk, as the animals awaken. Marvel at the incredible beauty of some of the Zoo’s unique animals from all corners of the globe – see a koala up close, feed a giraffe, book a meerkat encounter or get up close and personal with a rhino or lion.

OLD DUBBO GAOLThe state heritage listed Old Dubbo Gaol has swung open the cell doors and invites you to experience the fascinating history of prison life in the 1800s. Discover the stories of past prisoners who attempted daring escapes with theatrical performances and guided tours. Be berated by the warden, or pick-pocketed by the cunning prisoners.

Brave individuals may choose to defy fear and plunge further into the Gaol experience with a Twilight Tour. Become a 19th Century prisoner in the dead of night and explore the ominous atmosphere that offers chilling facts and frights with a theatrical twist.

WESTERN PLAINS CULTURAL CENTREHead into the heart of Dubbo and discover some man-made artistry at the Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC). WPCC is Dubbo’s creative soul, providing a cool and welcoming atmosphere sure to satisfy the unfamiliar artisan to the creative connoisseur.

Presenting a rich and varied program of high-quality exhibitions, special events and educational activities, find out why the WPCC makes such a significant contribution to the cultural fabric of Dubbo and surrounding communities.

Uncover the City’s history and view Australia’s largest and best preserved wool wagon or check out the recently installed carved tree, an object of great cultural significance to the local Aboriginal population rarely displayed in Australia.

DUNDULLIMAL HOMESTEADA trip to Australia’s oldest standing timber slab homestead is a unique experience which allows visitors to step back in time to rural life in Australia’s early colonial days. The story is one of amazing endeavour and vision, evidenced in the creation of a finely crafted, vintage home which has survived in near original condition at a time when the land was beyond the limits of settlement.

THERE IS SO MUCH MOREStimulate your senses at the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden where you can meander among the Cherry Blossom Trees in the Shoyoen Garden.

Take a trip out to Terramungamine and discover grooves in rocks created by the Tubbagah People or peek at a cave made of hundreds of bottles.

There is so much to discover in Dubbo. Experience why thousands of people explore the ‘City of Smiles’ every year. For more information on what to see and do in Dubbo visit dubbo.com.au
