ADULT & COMMUNITY EDUCATION BRINGING THE UNIVERSITY TO YOU DUBLIN DIPLOMA IN AUTISM STUDIES CERTIFICATE IN MENTAL HEALTH IN THE COMMUNITY This innovative course, which was nominated for an Aontas STAR Award, is designed to introduce you to the different ways in which people on the autistic spectrum experience the world. You will learn about the history of autism, the importance of early intervention, education and inclusion, and legislation and policies that govern best practice guidelines and models of service. The issue of mental health and ASD will be examined, and you will also explore how a person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may contribute positively to society. This Programme, in partnership with Mental Health Ireland, will look at how communities can enhance mental and emotional well-being through best practice in mental health promotion and suicide prevention. It takes a recovery approach to mental health in the community in meeting the needs of people who experience mental health difficulties. Through the principles and practice of citizenship, empowerment, social inclusion, user involvement, hope and social justice it is possible to reduce stigma, create new community led resources and develop connections between groups, individuals and organisations.
