Dunbar Magnet School —
Parent/Student 4th Qtr. Bulletin
Dear Parents,
Fourth quarter is here. Can you believe it?
The year has flown by. It’s the time of year
when I look very hard at student grades! If
your child is in danger of failing any class, we
have enclosed a Failing Letter in the 4th Qtr.
Report Card. This letter will tell you exactly
what your child needs to make 4th quarter in
order to be promoted by Dunbar (Magnet)
standards, and/or by MCPSS standards (must
return to zoned school in the fall). We make
every effort to notify you, but please check
those averages yourself. Also, watch carefully
if your child has a C average in any class. A
decline 4th quarter could put him/her in the
failing category.
Students with excessive tardies to school and/
or excessive unexcused absences will be re-
moved from the Magnet Program and re-
turned to their zoned school in the fall. This
information is included on the Failing Letter
form. But again, 4th quarter attendance does
count and could send some students with at-
tendance concerns into the “can not return”
category. Monitor grades and attendance
carefully, and if you have concerns do not hes-
itate to call.
It will be a very busy quarter with our Spring
Shows, Prom, Celebrate the Arts, and Gat-
linburg trip. And, let’s not forget STATE TEST-
ING! Check our website for current infor-
mation.
It has been a pleasure working with each of
you this year. Please call if I can assist in any
way.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students must maintain a clean discipline record, passing grades, and
their AR points each quarter in order to participate in any/all extracurricular
activities. Students may not cheer, play basketball, travel (this includes
Universal Studios, Gatlinburg, Atlanta, and local field trips) if they have
multiple discipline referrals, failing one or more courses, or fail to meet their
AR goal quarterly.
Students have been made aware of these requirements. Many trips require
a non-refundable deposit. Before paying for a trip, check grades, discipline, and
AR progress. You will not be refunded if you pay a deposit and your child does
not qualify to travel. We hope many of you will join us for these fantastic trips,
but be sure your child MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS!
(You can check AR progress via the internet also. You can sign up to have an
email sent to you each time your child takes a test!) This tab is on our website.
